The Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera has an APS-C CMOS sensor. To find the full-frame equivalent of a lens (in regards to the lens' angle ov view) used on the smaller APS-C sensor, you must multiply the focal length of the lens by 1.5x. This applies to all lenses used on the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 DSLR Digital Camera. As such, 16-50mm x 1.5 = 24-75mm. You can refer to pages 235-236 of the SLT-A77's instruction manual for more information regarding the above.
This guy really understand Cameras, deep knowledge about Non Mainstream Cameras like Sony SLT, Pentax, Olympus etc....... This A77 still relevant & good competitor with more modern rivals
Shutter life expectancy are estimates designed to give you an idea how long the camera is designed to operate under warranty; it is not stating the camera will not operate past that point, just as cars with life expectancies of 250,000 miles are still on the road, or your engine does not shut down immediately if you don't change your oil after 3,000 miles. Good usage can let the camera last much longer and hard abuse or neglect can shorten it. It is a guide, but more so for warranty purposes.
U know what, while the camera alone,in itself already a fantastic product, what's even better here is the fantastic presentation, all info.well researched or furnished by the manufacturer, but praiseworthy most was the preparedness. All so well arranged-properly scripted & most of all,Larry was very proffesional & unlike certain wanna-bees,out here(in YTbe),essentially wasnt prepared & wasted viewers' valuable moments.Kudos to U Larry!
@ZoldierrZzz It was announced last August, but we've only seen the camera on a steady basis the past few months. What Sony has planned for a replacement if at all we do not know, sorry for the confusion. Kit lens are very respectable with regards to their price and performance. The 16-50 will give you better optic's and faster f/2.8 fstop so it really depends on what your needs are. If shooting available light, the 16-50 is the way to go. Chuck
While that sort of coverage would require much more time than the average hands-on product review allows, the idea of doing full tutorials of individual camera is a good one, and it's something we might do in the future. Thanks for watching.
The new Sony cameras have a lot of attractive new innovations to them; however for nature/wildlife work I would still consider the Canon in this instance. Both have a high ISO for low light, with the Sony only exceeding the Canon by 1-stop higher in its ISO capability. Both shoot at 5 frames per second. My reason for selecting Canon is you have a greater selection base of lenses for this task than there are available for Sony. - Yossi
@TacticalHadoken Both are excellent cameras and have many prime lens options available for it. If you are going to be recording a great deal of video, the A77 would have the edge due to its Translucent Mirror Design. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A Mount lens (Sony or Minolta), including macro and wide-aperture prime lenses.
Excellent rundown! I've been interested in this camera for over a year, yet I learned some new things about it from this video! Very helpful! I think I'll be getting an SLT this year...likely from your store (depending on prices at the time)!
There are rumors of the A99 coming late August/early September which would be a full frame camera. As for APS-C, I think you'll be fine getting the A77.
very nice information Larry Becker, it might become to be too much to ask for, but is there any video from you where shows what you can do with all the buttons ? i just bought 2 A77, and i am in love with them, just the little problem that i dont know what are the bottons for. Thanks for the review of this video. Best Regards,
Hello Larry and BHP staff. How are you doing? I have a little question about the a77. I've read about the shutter life span. Is now rated for a life of 150,000 cycles. This is very welcome and it is on par with cameras like the Canon 7D and Nikon D7000. But, does this mean that once I run out of cycles the camera will stop working? Or that the camera will work differently after that? It's quiet a big investment for me and I totally freaked out with that to be honest. Hope you can answer me.
I am so confused what to buy: this camera of Canon 60D. I am sony fan but I don't want this to influence my decision. I like nature photography with zoom and night photography with long exposures.
@raredreamfootage The Sony A77's manual does not show any audio options other than a "Wind Noise" option to reduce wind noise by cutting bass sound input from the built-in microphone. This is not an option when an external mic is used. Sony does not list any crop-factor during video recording. im thinking of getting this camera and it has pretty much everything I need. My only question is, I would be using this mostly for concert photography. Does anyone have any experience with this camera with concerts? indoor and or outdoor? Or any other brand camera? im looking around the 800 or 900 range in dollars
you should get a camera with good lowlight performance, no doubt the a77 is great, but due to the fact that it's an SLT you'll lose about 30% of the light through the Mirror. I would recommend this camera for well light sports photography. Can't beat 8-12fps in that price range. For indoor concerts it's probably not my 1st choice.
For your purpose you better buy a mirrorless camera with an electronic viewfinder and one with an electronic (not mechanical) shutter which can be switched off (no noise when you take the photo). Think for example at Sony Nex 6 or 7 or Panasonic GX7.
I had the a77 for 4 Weeks in Japan and i can say. The only better camera is the a99 :D i just loved it, very awesome camera! I owned the 5D Mark III and D800 (the 5D3 for 9 Months) and i can say for sure that, except the Sensor, the a77 is better in nearly every aspect. The 16-50mm is an awesome lense (better than the 24-105 f/4 on the 5D3 kit). I would buy it again everytime (if the a99 wouldn't exist).
@thebruchster Both the A65 and A77 share a similar imaging sensor, so moving up will only get you more pro related features: Magnesium Alloy body, 19 AF points (11 points cross type), Joystick Controller, +/-5.0 EV, Max 1/8000 sec, ?Extra fine? JPEG, PC Sync Socket, higher top 1/250 sec flash sync, 12 fps and dust and moisture sealed. C h u c k askbh{at}bandh{dot}com
We've heard nothing but excellent feedback from customers concerning the A77's image quality. I have yet to test drive it personally so I cannot comment from personal experience. C h u c k askbh{at}bandh{dot}com
Both cameras are excellent with regards to build and image quality. If video will be important, the A77 with full time AF + AVCHD would be the better choice. C h u c k askbh{at}bandh{dot}com

Watching in 2022, thanks for the info. Just bought this camera.

The Sony SLT-A77 has just begun shipping so I doubt a replacement model for it is coming soon.

The camera is on the way! :)

Very nice video review of the Sony A77. This makes me happy in buying the A77 for a starter DSLR camrea or SLT.
How much of a upgrade would this be from a Sony A65. Should I just get a macro lens for my A65.
Sounds like a great Camera.

I'm in two minds to get this or a Nikon D7000 with a prime lens. :S

I have a problem the LCD has green blur I can't see or take pictures
How to fix it
Do you have any review on Sony slt a, 58 ?
Are there manual audio controls? And is AGC disabled? Or can it be disabled? What is the crop-factor during video recording?

2:36 como logró ese efecto?? Tengo una alpha 65
Great review. Love this camera and have one comming right as I'm typing this :-)
Why haven't you guys made a review of the Sony a57?

This was super review. Made me gonna buy one. Thanks!
i love my sony
Thats why I ordered one :)
Good review sir, except the 16-50 2.8 kit lens is not a full frame lens so its not a 24-75 equivalent.
I'm waiting till they develop features like these in a small mirrorless camera with a full frame sensor. then I gonna give away my DSLR
nice review
