Small Biz Millionaire Ep. 2: Business Licensure & Identification

- The next several videos I'm going to do are going to be on Small Business Millionaires, and what does that mean? That’s any blue collared trade out there.
•plumbers,
•electricians,
•auto mechanics,
•small factories,
•HVAC,
•anyone that literally works with their hands.
Our society is growing at a pace that's never been really known in the United States and all these skills are really desirable.
The first thing you need is a skill set.
What is a skill set? It’s something that I actually know. It’s something that I can do and I am of value. That's somebody that can fix an auto, fix a car, a truck, somebody that can hang a light fixture, somebody that can fix a
commode, somebody that could paint a house.
A skill set is anything that I can do that can add value to society.
Anything I can do, and sell my services.
Anything I can do that I can sell my labor, my time to, because we all have got the same number hours a day.
What can I do in that eight to ten hour day to make a living, to feed my family, to buy a house, to own a car, to have retirement
when I get older.
Some people go to technical schools to learn certain things. Some people do OJT, OJT means on-the-job training.
1️⃣ So the first thing you need to do to be self-employed, to be an
entrepreneur, is have a legal State License.
Okay, State License in the State of Wyoming, the State of Florida the state of wherever you are at, you got to have a state license. Whatever the
local and state laws tell you to do, that's what you need to do.
Some states will allow you to have a County License, some states will allow you to have like a Journeyman License where you could work locally within maybe a city or county. Most states require a state license.
So you have to go and get a state license test. A lot of states require you to have, especially in the mechanical industries, Electrical, Plumbing, Air Conditioning, you have to have three to four years of training in that field before you're allowed to take the test.
You take the state test, and now you're a state licensed contractor.
From that point you need to pay a local business license fee.
After that, you can put logos on your trucks, you can put logos on your contracts,
you can hand out business cards, you're legal.
2️⃣ Now the next thing you want to talk about is, what are you going to name your business?
Here are two ideas to help you choose your nam:
1. Go to Google Ad Words and go to Google meta tags and they're called pay per clicks and you can look that up. What is the most common term printed in my County? What do people type in there first?
2. Use your name
In my case it was Jones Air Conditioning, David Jones Air Conditioning.
Okay, because I wanted people to know that the buck stopped here,
I was in charge, I was here, they knew who I was. I was out in my local community, I always did the right thing, I can look you straight in the eye,
and people admired that a lot of times.
3️⃣ Third, choose your phone number.
I recommend getting an easy number. Everybody has their phones nowadays, everybody puts everything on their phone,
but if you just got an easy number, it's just quicker if they don't have their
phone they can just tell it to a friend real quick, okay.
4️⃣ Next thing you'll need to do is get an email address. We all have to have an email address for business.
You want to put that on your business card.
One thing I'm going to say about business cards are you want to put your information on front, make sure you put your phone number in the top right-hand corner, make it large and legible.
Put your name, but also on the back, flip the card over and put down
some of the things that you do. I have that all time happening with people I run into and they'll say "well I didn't know you did this, or I didn’t know you’ve done that."
5️⃣ Location.
Don't just give people your card with no address, because me personally
that's usually a red flag. Have an office where customers can come in,
I always say come on over to my office visit, whatever, but have it clean and neat. You need to have it where your customer can sit down, be comfortable, offer them some water or something. And be it would be nice to have somebody in there answering your phone, because people want to know when they call there's a live person on the other end answering the phone.
