  • In this video, I'll go over the basics you should know about installing and wiring convenience receptacles and GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) receptacles. Whether you call them outlets, plugs, or receptacles, it's important to have a basic understanding of how they are wired and installed.
Even though I recommend having a licensed electrician install your receptacles, this is a good tutorial with basic knowledge for any homeowner!
The three wires you will need to identify are the Ground, the Hot (or black), and the Neutral (or white). And you'll need to understand the difference between the line side and the load side.
An easy way to remember is that the line side is power coming IN to your receptacle, and the load side (if needed) is power going OUT from that receptacle to others along the line.
If you have any questions, please comment below and I'll get back to you!
    Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video. A vid on portable dehumidifiers would be great.

When do you use a GFCI receptacle vs a GFCI breaker? All of my outside receptacles are non-GFCI even though there is a sticker on one that says GFCI protected circuit. The breaker is not GFCI either, and the circuit doesn't work. I'm thinking the previous homeowner messed it up.
