- This is a test of the 125 gr Magnus Stinger Killer Bee Ser Razor 4 blade broadhead.
Here is summary of my 2023 Testing Procedure & Scoring w/the scores of this head posted in parenthesis as well.
Magnus Killer Bee Ser Razor 125 gr Total Score: 82.24 = 8 Golden Arrows
1. Flight Forgiveness (20%, 16 pts)
This is not just a test of how heads fly out of my bow, as it was in the past. With a well tuned bow, properly built arrows & good form, almost every head flies well. That's why in the past most heads got a flight score of 9 or 10. But that doesn't help those who may not have perfectly tuned bows/arrows/good form. So now I am gauging Flight Forgiveness. This is based on how the head flies for me, how well it spins, how "sensitive" the flight is to imperfections, & the exposed surface area of the blades. The max score of a Mech is 20 & the max score of a Fixed is 16.
2. Cut Size (20%, 13.35 pts)
The more tissue being cut, the more lethal the head, all else equal. The entrance cut, total cut, & width of the cut (a crucial variable for bloodletting) are all scored:
The entrance cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" then that fraction is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.813" = 5.08 pts)
The max cut size is compared to a standard of 2.5" as well, then that fraction is is weighted to 7% of the score. (1.813" = 5.08 pts)
The max cutting diameter is compared to a standard of 2.0", then that fraction is weighted to 6% of the score. (1" = 3 pts)
3. Blades (20%, 17.2 pts)
Initial sharpness (9%, 200 grams = 10/10 = 9 pts) & Edge Retention (9%, +100 gram = 8/10 = 7.2 pts) are measured using the Edge On Up Sharpness Tester. The pressure needed for a blade to cut thru a copolymer wire is measured in grams.
Edge Retention is the loss of sharpness after the head is shot in Penetration Test 1, thru 1/2" MDF and 2/3" rubber foam mat & Clear Ballistics FBI gel. For every 50 "grams" of sharpness lost, 1 point is deducted from 10.
What are some sharpness scores for common edges?
A butter knife takes 2000 grams of pressure to break the co polymer wire.
A new high end cutlery edge: ~ 375 grams of pressure.
A utility razor blade: 200 grams.
Based on the many broadheads I have tested, here is my scoring scale:
Out of the Box Sharpness:
0-200 gr: 10
201-300 gr 9
301-400 gr: 8
401-500 gr: 7
501-600 gr: 6
601-700 gr: 5
Ease to resharpen or replace blades is judged & given 2% of the score. (5/10=.1 pts)
4. Penetration (20%, 15.69 pts)
There are 3 penetration tests:
Pen Test 1: 1/2" MDF, 2/3" rubber foam mat, Clear Ballistics FBI gel. Depth of penetration is compared to a standard of 9" & weighted to 9% of the score. (7" = 7 pts)
Pen Test 2: Layered cardboard. # of layers penetrated is compared to a standard of 70 layers & weighted to 9% of the score.
(52 layers=6.69 pts)
Angled Penetration Test: How effectively does the head penetrate 1/4" MDF covered by carpet at a 45 degree angle. This accounts for 2% of the score. (10/10 = 2 pts)
5. Durability (20%, 20 pts)
Each head is shot thru 1/2" MDF 3 times. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 12% of the score. (10/10 = 12 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot thru 22 ga steel plate twice. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 5% of the score. (10/10 = 5 pts)
If a head survives that, it is then shot into concrete once. Its condition is judged 1-10 & weighted to 3% of the score. (10/10 = 3 pts)
Steel plate & concrete are certainly not "realistic" mediums, but they do reveal the outer limits of a head's durability.
BONUS: 0
Total Magnus Killer Bee SCORE: 82.24 pts = 8 Golden Arrows
Price: $16.33/head

One of my favorite heads. Used them for a few years on elk and had amazing results. I shot one into a bunch of rocks and it only curled the tip. Awesome because you buy blade packages. Never could tell if the serated edges did anything above and beyond but they kill quickly.
Nice
I’d like to see the upcoming 150 grain tested.
Me too. Eager to test it
Cannot believe how well it survived the concrete. What an awesome test, thank you!
Right? It did very well.
Great video as always, John! I love Magnus broadheads and have personally used the stinger buzzcuts for years. They are always lethal and fly so well.
Thanks for sharing that.
Awesome review John! Magnus makes an awesome head and they carry one of the best warranties in the business. Can’t go wrong with any Magnus product as your testing has shown.
Yep.
These are & have always been an excellent choice. I spoke to the owner of the company on the phone some years back and not only did answer all of my questions but he could not have been nicer doing so. He also stated if for any reason the broadhead fails send it back for a replacement No Questions Asked. That's hard to beat especially at the price point of this broadhead.
Yeah, Mike’s a good guy…and they do have a great warranty.
One of those
Tried and true designs that just works 😊
Yep.
I've shot Magnus for years, i love the lifetime warranty..
Outstanding customer service.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
They are releasing a 150gr Black Hornet with a steel ferrule next month.
I can’t wait ! I’ve been waiting for that.
Yep, eager to test it.
I’ve been waiting for this video! I have these and black hornet ser razors in my quiver and can’t get enough of them!
:)
I always knew they were good heads but was surprised with the concrete. Definitely a terrific broad head for the money!
Me too
I am still pretty new to archery so I went through alot of testing of broadhead and arrow combos. I had this broadhead on my Amazon wishlist for a while but envitably took it off once I learned how hard far simpler designs are to sharpen. I finally found a broadhead/arrow combo I like for this year's deer season so I am I not doing more testing, however, once I envitably have to find a new combo, I might give it a try again after seeing this test.
Very good.
I always like the Magnus heads, I honestly didn’t think it would hold up to the destruction tests as good as it did. That makes me reconsider buying heads that costs over twice as much as the Magnus do lol
Yep.
John, how are you liking your north Texas heat this summer. Woowee, what a year to move to town. Be blessed my friend!
Woowee is right!
I'm a big fan of Magnus, taken pigs, deer and elk with them. Great company to deal with. Enjoyed the review John. Thanks, Dozier
Nice. Thank you
Incredible! I love the simple design and flight. Durability looks impressive. They are affordable. Nothing to not love for me. Will they shoot accurately for me? We will find out at some point … looking at the 150 version of this head no bleeders.
Yep
Waaaaay underrated
I own plenty of these and they are excellent
And the warranty is the best in the market
Good to hear
Solid design great video
Thank you
I want to see a series of videos where you take the top performers from the past and put them through “next level” testing. Long range groups, noise in flight, weight consistency etc.
That’s a good idea. I often wipe out a whole package when I do the tests, but sometimes have some left over.
I was surprised they did so good which when i 1st seen them i was hoping they would. Pretty mean looking broadhead!
Yep.
My favorite head by far. Does just about everything really well. I so wish Magnus would make steel ferrule versions of these that come in at 200 grains.
Thank you
I’m interested in seeing the new badger broadhead, I love the old ones!
They are going to send me some to test as soon as they finish production
Can we get any info on the new head? Weight perhaps. I have been waiting for a heavier magnus for years now.
Was amazed how well it did on the concrete. Has to be a special quality of stainless steel I think.
I was as well. I think the concrete and direct angle of impact helped a bit. Since moving to TX, the cinder blocks I get at Home Depot are not as hard as the ones I used in Iowa-still are cinder blocks though.
Have been using the same 6 pack Magnus Snuffers. For a.several years now. Haven't tried the Killer Bee line of heads.
Good all round heads at a really good price.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures the no questions replacing of the broad head was always a plus. To be fair though. I have never used it and don't know if it is still offered.
so impressive
Yep
Awesome video as always! If you're retesting some broadheads might I request a retest of the sik F3?
Thank you.
Magnus for life! You forgot to mention the LIFETIME no hassle warranty! They honor it perfectly too! Send a pic of the head, what happened, and they’ll replace it FREE of charge.
I usually do mention that, but may have left it out in this one. I’m just testing the heads. But that is a nice deal.
Around the 3:50 marke he mentions the replacement warranty
It works I’ve used it and got two new heads no questions asked other then for a mailing address.
I have some 100-grain killer bee non-serrated broadheads I plan on trying this year. I like the solid blade design, and they are quiet in flight. It would be nice to have a sound meter set up downstream to see the sound level that different broadheads produce. I have a couple pack of Hunor 2 blade heads I bought. several years back and they have a waffle pattern vented blade. They are very, very loud. They really look good but make way too much noise to hunt with. How can I get a pack of them to you to test?
I’d love to test a pack of those. It would probably not be until the new year, as I am so backed up. All I need is three new broadheads to do a proper test. My mailing address is John Lusk 2502, Sun Grove Road, Melissa TX 75454, United States
I have considered doing sound tests quite a bit. But there are too many problems for me to do that properly. If I do it outside, then the ambient sound will vary our hour as well as day today, preventing any consistent testing for comparative purposes. If I do it, an indoor range, most of them are far too short and the sound meter picks up the shot itself and the impact. I can go to a longer indoor range, but it’s an hour drive each way and I just test way too many broadheads to do that.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures I have a new 3 pack I will send you and you can test them whenever it is convenient for you.
Magnus is a tough one to beat for the price, and the lifetime warranty!
Yep
Have you done a review for the Magnus Killer Bee (maybe w/ no bleeders)? Be interested to see what kind of penetration you’d get.
No, I’ve not. If someone donates a pack of those, I will gladly test them.
Great head for the money!
Yes.
I've been using 4 blade stingers (haven't used the solid yet) but I can tell you that I've shaved fletchings at 70 yards and I've had pass throughs on caribou. And Magnus has some of the best customer service in the bow hunting industry.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I stand by magnus I used these last year and I blew thru everything even a 270lb boar, I shoot 575gr total weight 80lb bow
Nice
That’s the head I’m using this year
Nice
I always recommend magnus when people ask about going from expandable to fixed blade
They are a great choice
What arrow did you have that on. I love the metal collar
They are Bishop FOC King arrows; I share that in each video :)
Is Blood force broadheads by Dead X BOWHUNTING still the leader of fixed blades ?
They’re certainly top tier. But I believe the Trifecta 125 gr nudged them out by a bit.
@@LuskArcheryAdventures which would u choose for crossbow whitetail see hunting ?
Is the replacement Broadhead one-time deal If you damaged one?
No I’ve replaced multiple. The best customer service hands down. I’ve bought packs of broadheads to give to people just because I feel guilty for not paying to replace them so many times.
It’s for any head, any time.
Magnus Broadheads are a really good head, especially for the price.
Yep
Hey John, do you have a set schedule that you upload videos? or is it just random days and times? todays was monday, is it always?
Usually on Monday evenings. Sometimes Sunday mornings.
Every bit of it was excellent except the blades dulled up fast ? I was disappointed it lost 50% of it's sharpness so quick.
Yeah, that can happen with certain bevel angles, blade thicknesses and steel quality.
Funny this should pop up I just bought 2 packs of the killer bee 150 4 blade for my daughter's bow and for my self to play with iv been running the vpa 150 single bevel mainly
Nice
Magnus make a great head and they’re a great American company with awesome people. You don’t need to spend 40 dollars on a single broadhead to kill an elk.
Yep
Been waiting on replacement blades for 3 years now. Easier just to get new broadheads.
Yep
Magnus is a tough head , they take abuse and definitely a good head for a guy on a budget
Indeed
I can see Magnus using this video in their ads.
:)
I shoot magnus in my bow and crossbow I’m on budget and they sharpen easy.
Yep
Why would you ever buy an ironwill if you could buy this
Because the IW is superior in every way. Some people value that more than the price difference. There are many examples of broken Magnus ferrules. The upcoming steel ferrule 150gr Hornet should be great.
Magnus make very good heads, no doubt. But there is also no doubt that IW materials are superior. It all comes down to each person's wallet.
@LuskArcheryAdventures I'm a production supervisor at a tool and die shop. D2, a2, m2, all the cpm's, zwear, 4140, among others are on the materials list daily. No doubt the hardened a2 is superior but for the money/performance/and warranty of the magnus it just seems like your coming out ahead
Mathematically a serrated blade has a lot more surface area than a flat grind....
Yep, that's why it is superior at slicing.
This is basically shocking to me, I can't believe they're as cheap as they are.
Yep
Bought 2 packages of the 150gr, was gonna use them for a Hog Hunt but I needed surgery on my (( left )) bicep, still recovering, so I guess it will have to wait ... 🫤🏹🐗
Oh bro, sorry to hear that. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
@LuskArcheryAdventures thank you so much, I Appreciate it 🙏 ... 😎👍
