    Walt was looking at the same kind of bird in the book, and there was a Polar Bear in the comic book.

    Not sure if anyone else has said this as I haven't read all the comments. But regarding michael saying "at least she didn't throw then away", I dont think that was intended for US to view her in a better light, I think he was doing it for Walts sake. Walt quite clearly loves his mother, and Michael didnt want to tarnish that, so he tried to sort of find a silver lining for Walt. In the same way he told Walt Brian wanted to keep him, even though he obviously didn't. All his choices have Walt at the heart of them ❤

    You can see why I chained 24 episodes in 2 days now huh ? The cliff-hangers in this may be the best from any TV show.

    I haven't read any comments, but Walt did make the bird die. He's "Special". And he made the polar bear appear too. Remmeber what he told Locke when he threw the knife? He saw it happen in his minds eye. His powers seem to come from a heightened emotion. Michael was being the better man and protected Walt from more hurt and disappointment by taking the blame off Brian because his mother just died. Witch lady mom saved Michael's letters and cards because one day she planned to give them to Walt.

    Walt concentrated and his aim with the knife was perfect, he saw a bird in a book and it appeared and he saw a polar bear in a comic and it appeared. Coincidence?🤔

      I think that's the second time he looked at/manifested the polar bear in the comic. Did it happen in the pilot too?

  • @paulpenna5615
    @paulpenna5615 Месяц назад

    The bird totally died because of Walt. He was reading a book about Australian native birds, his mother and Brian were ignoring him, he made the bird slam into the glass.
    Presumably Walt has had other similar incidents.

    Carmen, did you miss the part of the episode where the bird that Walt was looking at in the book was the type of bird that flew into their window.
    Like he somehow called it there.
    If you recall the type of comic Walt was reading was about Superhero 's with super powers.

    Susan's motives are purely selfish. They are not based on what is best for Walt, despite her claims. She wanted the rich lawyer from her law firm, so she dumped Michael for Brian. She manipulated Brian by getting him to adopt Walt, thereby kind of locking him into a relationship with her, even if it goes downhill. Kind of the old trick of a woman getting pregnant on purpose to get a man to marry her. Only she did it with an existing child and a legal adoption. Why she wants to keep Michael out of Walt's life is a little more difficult, but I think that so that she won't feel guilty over screwing over Michael because of her own selfish desires. Out of sight, out of mind.
    Not sure if you noticed but the bird that crashed into the window was the same species of bird that Walt was trying to show Brian in the book.

      I do not agree. Although I disapprove of Susan's desire to remove Michael from Walt's life, I don't find her selfish. Selfish people would not seek to have a child and if they did, they would not take care of the child so well. Walt does not seem to be unhappy and even loved. It's weird to believe that Susan manipulated everyone around her to her liking without thinking for a second that she might have changed between the time she was with Michael and the rest of her life. She could very well be truly in love with Michael to the point of wanting to give him a child without wanting to marry him because marriage seemed pointless to her at the time. Their marital problems exist without it being Susan's fault exclusively. Michael seems to have no more qualms than Susan about separating her from Walt. He tells her that she can leave if she wants but that Walt stays with him. He is the first to speak about justice before Susan. Then, out of sight, out of mind, Susan may very well love someone else. It happens every day in reality. Brian is that man. Susan, who has become more mature since becoming a mother and accomplished professionally, may well want family stability for Walt with a mother and father together. Hence his desire to adopt Walt not Brian, without it being a Machiavellianly selfish plan but geared towards Walt's happiness. Finally, in the Susan/Michael couple, I always found that the two were the same: they wanted to keep Walt for themselves, even if it meant separating him from the other parent. They wanted to decide who Walt could hang out with or not (Susan keeping him away from Michael, and Michael keeping him away from Locke). Yes, the same ones. And if extremes attract, the same repel each other, hence the failure of their relationship. It's not as clear as you might think.😊

      @@youtpfpm6097 Nah. Susan was being selfish. Having a kid means big sacrifices. Susan wanted the big-time job in Amsterdam -- well, sorry Sunshine, that's just not an option now you have a child you're co-parenting in the USA.
      Susan expected everyone ELSE to make sacrifices to facilitate her choices, including Walt. Peak selfishness.

    • @youtpfpm6097
      @youtpfpm6097 Месяц назад

      @@zammmerjammer a selfish person does not burden himself with a child who has his own needs and requires attention that would only be a burden for a selfish person. She would have left all of this to Michael. But she doesn't do it. Why? Because she is no more selfish than Michael who, before his accident, didn't care at all about taking Walt away from his mother, just like you think Susan doesn't care at all about taking Walt away from his father. This is a fairly classic situation in child custody issues.

    Well, Walt was looking at a book about birds and he got frustrated that Bryan and his mom were ignoring him then, wham, a bird flew into the window. The episode is called... Special.
    No, I don't think we're supposed to think Susan was good, she's awful, we all saw it. I think the reason Mike said that about her keeping the letters was just his way of not bashing on her to her son. I'm pretty sure he thought it was a shit move, and it was. Just like he didn't throw Bryan under the buss, and he told Walt it was his decision, not Bryans. He didn't want to tell Walt that Bryan didn't want him. He was trying to spare Walt's feelings.

    Visitation or shared custody in this case requires international travel - which is very expensive. It would also mean having to take time off work when the child is young, disturbing your own income and requiring even more spending on your own ticket and staying in the other country during the visitation duration or traveling twice to drop off and pick-up.
    International custody also runs the risk of the visiting parents turning to the court and undermining the other parent's rights altogether. You drop off the kid for visitation and the next thing you know, you no longer have custody, the court took it away and never notified you.
    To top it off, shared physical custody would mean:
    Children suffer
    See: Shared Physical Custody-What Children Discover and Suffer
    A new perspective on 50/50 arrangements reveals eye-opening effects on children.
    This can be exacerbated by a parent who is in a job they hate and breeds resentment and anger on everything in that person's life, including their children. Artists who take jobs to live are more prone to this.

    I never thought Brian was bad until recently. It’s clear Susan is just the worst and manipulated both Michael and Brian over and over again. I just thought Brian was scared because Walt’s mental powers freaked him out. But recently I heard “The Storm” podcast about this episode and they’re ALL IN on Brian being the worst and I was taken aback by that. It’s not great that he gave up on Walt, sure, but Susan is definitely worse, right?

    Carmen, at this point in the story what are your theories about what the island might be and why is it so special ?
    I remember that at this time in the story I had theories that the island might be Atlantis, Pandora's Box, The Garden of Eden, a island somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle, an island trapped in the past or the future, and even possibly Hell itself.

    With the show being serialized, running repeats would potentially confuse people who were dedicated viewers. ABC had plenty of clip episodes or recaps, often leading into a new episode. Oh they milked that cow dry.

    Susan sucks, but I was always annoyed at Michael for letting her get away with her B.S.
    She could not have taken Walt out of the country without Michael's permission. And that whole line about how she's got a great job and Michael is unemployed doesn't mean what she (and the show) implies it means. Courts tend to give primary custody to the parent who is most involved in the child's day-to-day life. Susan with her fancy job has been busy working while unemployed Michael has likely been the one putting Walt to bed, giving him his bath, changing his diapers. That means Michael would get primary custody and Susan would have to pay him child support.

    I think Walt's mom decided to keep the letters in order to tell him when he would be older to understand. At his age, he wouldn't. This is not foolish but wise in this situation. She kept the letters so he could have them later in his life while he would be old enough to get the situation. And thanks for the final 😮😯 Always funny to watch. 😋
