I just put everything on low with render scale on quality mode. Also, locking the refresh at 30 seems to bump input latency pretty bad. Still playable but not ideal. I find leaving refresh at 60 and just enabling Vsync makes the game have significantly better input response even when it’s only pushing out 30fps. ALSO, the right trackpad is only set to melee so just remap it to function as a D-pad. That way you can use stims, equip grenades, call in stratagems, etc. all while still moving. Gives you a massive advantage.
So, I’m streaming from my PS5 to my OLED Deck, and a community configuration has the right trackpad for pulling up the mini map and scrolling around. It’s awesome for this! Activating gyro aiming while I’m touching the right stick is very cool too, kind of like playing Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom!

Just like any other online co op or competitive type of game the lag and frame drops is definitely not ideal. I'm assuming he's talking about remote play but I'm not sure.
for me, i take the fps over the visual quality. While the renderscale looks super blured, my fix is to turn of AA and just accept the pixels. Its not a big problem for me tbh, im used to the 144p screen of a DS, a 480p resolution on a handheld is still a good experience. The reason this works is because They have a HUD scaler in the game which makes it easier to see text and important information on a handheld. I really recommend bumping that up. The only issue is fighting and finding enemies at long range, so i usually try to keep my loadout a CQC styled one with a Shotgun and Sentries. I tend to lock the FPS at 40 because you get a pretty good input latancy over 30. Issues comes during the higher level missions (6-9). while i havent played alot of it on the deck, the amount i have played i can safely say that i recommend the game on the deck, but dont expect the prettiest visuals. (though it still looks really good apart from the pixles)
I’ve been running it on steam deck since it came out. Works fine as long you do what was posted in the video. I run 30-40 fps on 7 and 8 difficulty. I use a mouse and keyboard tho

I have a steam deck and I’d say if you’re trying to decide which will be better for helldivers, definitely get a PlayStation. The steam deck can run hd2 but only barely, I just use it when I want to casually spread some democracy, frame rates dip way down into the 20s on the higher levels like 5 and up
its worth noting that as soon as you go to level 4 and above the fps is genuinely so bad that its not worth, its only worth to do small missions at very low levels
"Playable" means it's very well playable with some tinkering. I had issues with halo infinite multiplayer, such as lagging and being kicked out of the game. After some good research, tinkering the in-game and steam deck settings it now runs like a hot knife through butter. Thank you for this video.
You just want a microphone with Cardioid audio settings, then play around with levels and you should be good. Most standard microphones have this, even the ones marketed towards gamers like the Yeti. You can also get a lot out of a boom stand, pop filter, and foam cover for the mic. You don't necessarily need to go and set your PC up in the closet yet, lol.@@tomfinler
My opinion on how to get Helldivers 2 running the best (what I did). First, dual boot your deck for Windows and Steam OS. This game runs better in Windows than Steam OS. Then buy the JSAUX vented backplate. Replace the Thermal Paste on the APU for some PTM 7950. Undervolt your deck, test with 3dmark benchmark ans stress test to get the best performance. Push all settings as far as you can until performance gets worse, then go back to the setting that works the best. Download tools to add Raising TDP above 15W. Raise TDP until performance gets worse in stress test. Then Overclock CPU and GPU. Benchmark and stress test finding the absolute best settings. Enjoy a much smoother and consistently above 30fps experience! My deck now drains battery while plugged in, but it will last quite awhile, and is worth the performance as long as you can plug in to charge one way or another. Best of luck!
I can’t tell if you’re joking but if not you’ve gone to some serious effort there to get it running smoothly! I’m not sure I’d want my deck to be running so hard it loses power even when plugged in
@@tomfinler Haha! I actually did this. I already had the Windows dual boot, and found that HD 2 ran better on Windows. There was still performance to be desired, so I looked for ways to improve it. I get overclocking it to the point it loses power plugged in isn't what a lot of people want, but the performance gain is worth it to me. I have a backpack i got on Amazon that holds handheld gaming devices and other accessories in a really organized fashion while keeping all the USBs connected at all times so you don't need to hook and unhook when starting and stopping play. I have a large battery pack in the backpack hooked up to the hub inside, then to the Steam Deck, so portability isn't really a problem either. I can take this setup on the go, I just need the USB cord popping out of the backpack. I also have some Xreal glasses, some nice headphones, and a PS5 controller hooked up already in the backpack if I so chose to use them. I feel like I have the ultimate portable setup! The discharging happens slowly. It discharges about 5% an hour, so you could get 20ish hours plugged in. I overclocked a PC in 2010, and it lasted me until 2021. I upgraded the graphics card in it twice, but the overclocking of the CPU really extended the life of that PC. I figured if I could overclock something that reliably, I should be able to overclock the Deck and it lasts long enough until the next deck gets released. Lets just say I am really looking forward to the performance of the Deck 2 and hope it doesn't take forever to get released. I am also keeping my eye on the Zotac Zone, as it looks like the best Steam Deck alternative in my eyes. All in all, I enjoyed the process of overclocking and seeing what potential was left on the table with my Steam Deck.

I am unable to play after the most recent patch. GPU and CPU utilization tanks and when this happens the frame rate drops to the single digits. I have tried adjusting graphical settings and nothing has resolved the issue
Hmmm im definitely thinking about getting this for the deck. I tried remote playing this from my ps5 but im already not that great at this game and the lag and frame drops sure arent helping me spread democracy.

It was on my s24 ultra with the gamesir G8 using the psplay app. Pretty nice setup but unfortunately my wifi isn't really good enough for remote play so I don't often play that way
@@tomfinler just activate it through controller settings in steam for the game, not in-game but on the top layer in steam os, you can have it so that thumb contact on the right analog stick activates it, it rules

imo the game's upscaling is quite bad, specially for the Steam Deck that has already a low resolution, so I'd prefer to play at native resolution and lower framerate (as long as it doesn't go below 30 too much, I'd use Quality as the minimum I'd ever go) I'd use low preset with medium terrain (it looks horrible at low) and then see what's the highest scaling it can do before falling under 30 FPS, that is if I had a Steam Deck ofc all things considered, considering the game is playable on the Steam Deck, it means it could've been perfectly possible on PS4, it's a shame they didn't

Yeah you absolutely can play fine and it’s great fun. I just think the difference playing on Steam Deck is a little more noticeable on this game compared to others where I don’t think you have to sacrifice visuals that much. Awesome game though! 😄

I like the battlepass nonsense in 2. You can buy it with rewards earned from other battlepass. Helldivers 1 just had you buying dlc bundles until they finally released collection with everything. Some of which were crap meanwhile stuff like Rumbler was painfully pay to win.

Really even on 4? I’ve played 3 on Steam Deck and then 4 on PC and it didn’t seem like there was such a jump in enemy numbers
@tomfinler well it's a different difficulty. You can try 4-6 it's very bad and then 7-9 is unplayable
