"WHY-WHY-WHY-WHY ?", that was my first reaction after the trailer of Gladiator 2. I discovered it yesterday during a live on twitch and I was excited about it : like a lot of people, I watched and loved Gladiator when I was younger, and the nostalgia is present. So with the announce of A Gladiator 2 and its casting, they had me, I thought it could be great. And then, I watched this trailer.
WHYYYYYYY. Why making a new Gladiator movie if it's to totally change the mood/universe around it, the one we loved so much and make it just a new insipid blockbuster ? It looks like they had a good story, the script was nice, and producers just put a lot of marvel movies tools in it, thinking it would make it more bankable. Wrong choice : you're totally changing the dna of Gladiator doing so, you're gonna disappoint the fans. And when you have such an amazing casting with whom you can go deep with emotions, it just feels like a total waste.
I didn't plan at first to publish a reaction, but they got me so mad, I wanted to share my anger.

if you go back and watch the very first trailers and marketing for 1, it was first sold as a loud, macho fighting movie. They used Kid Rock for music in the Super Bowl ad.

The worst thing it's the fact that I truly believe you can "clean" this movie and make it a good one. Story is a "why not", casting is cool and trailer shows they played well, so it's really everything around which is superficial and ruining things.
@@LauraReactions This is a sequel that makes me ask "pourquoi?" Was there something left unsettled in the first movie?
I mean some sequels make sense like Rocky 2 because the original Rocky movie was supposed to be longer but the studio cut it.
But this sequel. Why do we need it?

@@bpora01Yes there was I saw Gladiator when I was 35 years old. I wanted to know what happened to Lucius I said to my mate that is another story here Gladiator and he said I think you have something. Then my mate Vinny said was Lucis Maximus' son I said I don't know but he could be. Remember what Lucis said to Maximus.
[Inspecting the gladiators through the bars, Lucius notices Maximus and motions him closer. Amused, Maximus complies]
Lucius Verus: Gladiator, are you the one they call the Spaniard?
Maximus: Yes.

[Lucius smiles, and points to the art on Maximus' armor]
Lucius Verus: They have good horses in Spain?
Maximus: Some of the best.
[points]
Maximus: This is Argento, and this is Scarto. They were my horses. They were taken from me.
Lucius Verus: I like you Spaniard, and I shall cheer for you.
Maximus: They let you watch the games?
Lucius Verus: My uncle says it makes me strong.
Maximus: And what does your father say?
Lucius Verus: My father's dead.
Lucius' Attendant: Master Lucius, it is time.
Lucius Verus: I have to go.
Maximus : Thy name is Lucius?
Lucius Verus: Lucius Verus, after my father.
Has it occurred to you that we are no longer able to tell good stories like the past?
People don't want to think about that. Also, modern audiences do NOT have the taste for something more refined like the first movie. We are LESS human than we were 2 decades ago therefore cultural output will also decline. Simple.

You do know that they had Gladiators fighting Rhinos
and Naval Fights I am Glad there is a Gladiator 2.
Maybe have a look at the trailer for Gladiator. Could be shit, could be great. Can't tell from the trailer. Plus, I thought the effects looked pretty good.
On a second view, i noticed that there was a shark in the water of the coliseum.
And the ships are to big.
A shark... there is a shark... don't make me watch it again, please, each new information/detail is worst than the previous one.

@@LauraReactions 😂 Nothing is sacred anymore with all these unnecessary remakes/sequels.
Well, seeing 300 I initial thought it's fun, but the unrealistic and incorrect aspects distracted new from enjoying it... Then later I i realized to see it as a retelling in the sense that ancient storyteller would embellish a story, which is supported thru the way that film is presented visually and with a narrator.
In terms of Gladiator it does have some embellishing and it's fictional characters mixed with real historic figures... BUT it always fells like it was a realistic story and displayed in a way that is realistic and believable, shot in an epic, but still documentary style.
The trailer now does again the mistake that many sequels of action blockbusters do; they just go overboard and over-the-top with effects and events, where every epic scene from the original needs to get topped in the sequel.
There's no need to display a Naumachiae (the ship battle in the colosseum) grander than it was in real, because a) it doesn't fit with the way the first movie set the tone of the "Gladiator" universe, and b) even realistically depicted, a Naumachiae would've been impressive.
Same with that rhino... We had tigers in 1, how can we go over the top? Add a giant ass rhino with a dude riding it! 🙄
They did Fight Rhino but not with Gladiators on their backs but I am so looking forward to this movie, just enjoy the Film for what it is just because people are Butt hurt over Gladiator and Russel Crowe, If they are real fans they will go and see it.
The entire trailer showed the audience exactly whats going to happen and how it will end... Studio exec's must be old aand crusty for this lame attempt
