@@debbiesinclair5363 that’s precisely why they should have stopped taking new cases. But greed trumped good sense and ethics. This is hardly the first time something like this has happened. And when it does happen it’s literally the same story every time. I’ve even prosecuted funeral home operators who engaged in the same criminal conduct (and also lost their licenses in a civil action state licensing board proceeding, that was followed by a long, list of civil cases brought by grieving families, none of whom collected a dime despite winning their cases after protracted litigation.

This reminds me of the Tri State Crematory scandal of 2002, where almost 350 bodies that were supposed to be cremated never were. The bodies were scattered around the property. A propane delivery truck driver making a delivery noticed a human skull on the property. When he told the staff what he had seen, he was ordered to leave the property. Then he notified the local authorities. Later, when the owner was questioned about why he did not cremate the bodies, he claimed the retort was broken, but when it was tested, it fired right up. Can't imagine the horror compounding the grief of relatives of the deceased. *smh*

You know...it's odd. It took weeks for my Aunt to be cremated. Even though we paid for her cremation, we weren't able to get information about her remains and we were told her son -- next of kin needed to give us permission to allow us to have information. Then they couldn't get hold of him, but still wouldn't let us do anything about her remains or find out if she'd been cremated yet. Like they had our credit card. My mom (her sister) paid. She died first week of Jan and I don't think shit was resolved until mid Feb close to 1st week of March. If they're operating like this...it's no wonder shit was all over the place even here in CA.

You nailed it. When it comes to funeral homes, even if you have LEGITIMATE issues with the processes they performed or didn't perform, you'll find there are not any laws on the books to pushback against the wrongs they have committed. It will astound you if you ever have to wrangle with a funeral home. Most of the time, they hide behind the worn out excuse of, "hysterical relatives, overcome with grief interfered with understanding of what was agreed upon, etc.". It is so frustrating. There are no unbiased overseers or neutral state boards to register complaints. The people on those boards are all in the industry together and look out for one another like crooked swindlers. There is not a lot that you can do to get justice. It's an untouchable industry.

I appreciate your input. It's nice to know others are aware of what is happening in the human remains industry. It's the best kept secret since congress being in charge of overseeing their own pay and salary raises. I understand what you mean about facing so much daily grief. I don't know how funeral and hospice people do it. I know I couldn't. Thank God for those compassionate folks that can. Maybe you should be in sales, planning, and production of services. I doubt those would require handling of corpses. The funeral home that my mom chose buckled under pressure from my sister and sent her the death certificate instead of me, whom mother assigned as the designated agent before she died. And for good reason. My sister promptly went and emptied mom's bank accounts. Couldn't touch the funeral home for what they did. So frustrating. I get mad whenever I think about it and it's been almost 4 years.
