I want to have a PS5 digital only but my concern is Sony's game prices. Their exclusives remain at full price and take 9 months for the first sale. I almost never pay full price because most games aren't up to snuff day 1. At least Sony's exclusives are mostly the exception to that trend.
I had the original series s and just got the carbon black one, I must say the extra storage is nice for just 50 dollars more! It was a pain constantly deleting and downloading games
It's the ideal console for the non hardcore gamer. Myself for example, I'm not a huge fan of playstations samey open world third person games (except TLOU). I'm a Nintendo fan through and through, but this is a perfect device to play those titles that miss the switch entirely (or maybe should have if it's a horrible port) I'd play one game on this to every ten on a switch so.... Works out nicely. Full disclaimer I do have an XSX, but if this existed before that? I would have likely bought this, the only reason I didn't get the XSS before was the storage was awful even for casual usage.
Just got a used 512gb series s to pair with my gaming pc and I love it. Only paid $200 since it was used but since I already have gamepass for my PC and I used to play on xbox it just made sense to stay in the xbox ecosystem.
I got the black Series S AND the PS5, which I made black. I also got a black ps5 controller along with a black TV. Put that with my black PC and I'm all BLACKED OUT!⚫
Nope! Not going back! I bought a PS5 disc edition, complete with ALL the peripherals/accessories. Actually OWNED one, went out and HUNTED IT DOWN, until I found it. To me, TRUE next Gen, INCLUDES being able to play earlier Gen games. PS5 might be "state of the art", and was a beautiful resolution, but it isn't backward compatible, but to ps4. That's not true next gen to me. I'll stick with the Series S, and all of the memory/peripherals/accessories I've bought for it, because at least it's backward compatible, as next gen SHOULD be. And I'll wait until PS puts out their detachable disc drive edition, so Microsoft can backwards engineer THAT and make IT even better. All, just my opinions as a casual gamer. Just remember, I sold a brand new disc edition ps5 and all its accessories, in favor of a Series S, (white, at that, because I bought all 4 of my own TB's), and now play MUCH more, than I ever did with that PS5. Long live backward compatible consoles!!!
Great video mate, I have the exact same feelings!! I have both PS5 digital edition and Series S (512 GB) for more than a year now. There are only two things that makes me keep my Series S: Gamepass, which I feel is a better value than PS plus and I somehow prefer the layout of the xbox controller over dual sense. Else, PS5 DE is an easy recommendation over Series S 1TB. It's not just about resolution but even on my 1080p monitor, games look noticeably sharper on my PS5 with better draw distance and higher graphical fidelity. Don't get me wrong, Series S is going to be as relevant as Series X for this generation. But feature parity is a concern. I bought my Series S before PS5 and it's only after buying PS5 I came to know what I was missing. So, it's better to spend that extra $50 and live a little more.
I got my series s for about $220 in the spring of 2023. I didn't realize that they were so expensive. Glad I got a good deal on my brand new series s. Seems like the price for xbox consoles has also come down a lot lately.
Microsoft announced Xbox Series X digital, so i think this is ideal xbox, at least for me. I have Series S Black, i like it, but what i don't like is low framerate in some games. For example i'm playin Lies of P on Performance settings, and i'm not even talking about 4k, i have 1080 screen.
Mate you have me contemplating on what i should get, a series s carbon black or ps5 digital i like how you werent biased and how you were actually stating facts about the console. Someone help me make my mind up please 😬
I’d say it depends on how much you play, what type of games you play ( do you want to play Xbox or ps5 exclusives for instance) and also what your budget is cos Sony just increased the price of the ps5 digital another $50.
One thing which many people dont take into account is how amazingly conpact the series S is. Money was never a constraint for me but I keep traveling. The graphite series s became the obvious choice along with a portable monitor.
Got my first Xbox one recently and went with the Series S 1tb. Got it for it’s compact size and bang for buck to take back and fourth from home to work to play Halo with buddies and solo games in my down time. And for those purposes it is amazing especially since I got it for over $100 off. Plus the game pass is a game changer. Currently playing it much more than the PS5
One thing I think you missed with the parity concerns is some new releases not offering the 60fps mode which you can get on the X. I believe Remnant 2 and Alan Wake 2 are 30 only on the S. BG3 of course stole the headlines with the parity issue but I can see other 3rd party devs also looking for leeway with parity. Id take an X over the 1tb S everyday.
The series s has always offered lower performance than the series x, be that lower resolution or lower frame rates. It varies from game to game though. Alan Wake 2 in default mode will be 30fps on the series x too (although it will also have a performance mode that runs ‘mostly’ at 60 fps). It’s all getting a bit complicated now! 😀
What they need to do is make a special edition. They had done it with the series X and the halo version, not that I know if that's still available to buy, but they should do it with the series S. I'm going to replace my series S original with a series X soon, but if there was a special edition themed series S to come out then I'd buy that so long it makes the sounds and is of a decent game/style. I have a 1tb expansion card in my series S, so won't be buying the carbon at all and I do have a ps5 disc version, so special edition series S or just a series X for me.
Well in uk there is roughly £95 to £100 difference in price between the B/S and W/S. No point buying digital edition ps5. The disc version depending if you buy it without a game bundle is cheaper or the same price. It’s a roughly £100 to £110 difference in price to buying the Xbox black. So if you have an extra £100 buy the PS5. If you really want an Xbox S. Then buy the 512gb for £189 then £84.99 for western expansion card 512gb. Will workout maybe £20 to £30 cheaper then the B/S.
Got the Series X on release and thought about getting a Series S for the Bedroom. Was fed up with the recent changes to UI and Ads because no one should see this amount of ads, when you paid full price for a console. I’m happy that I got a PS5 a few weeks ago instead, so I can enjoy the Exclusive Titles that are really amazing and still play games with my wife due to crossplay.
As long as it's only split screen features that require the series X then that's fine. Price wise I managed to get a 1TB series S for £210 off ebay (without controller but that's only £45) so that's still a big difference in price between that and the playstation
The problem with series S is, well not the series S itself but the game developers being lazy, not to optimizing their games.. cyberpunk was a mess but now it runs amazing on series S with good optimization.. yes graphics aren't god-like like PC because what would you expect it's a less powerful console.
It's a shame to release a console aimed at digital gaming that only has 1TB of storage and that's one of the reasons why I haven't gotten the current consoles.
I have a PS5 Disc Version and a Series S. I got the Series S with the Starter Pack for 229$ and this was a great deal. The 1440p on my 4K TV looks on Forza almost like 4K. I wanted to buy the Xbox only for Forza Horizion 5
thats worth it, i bet all games look 4k like on the 4k tv because it upscales, especially with all sports games if ur a casual gamer who enjoys upscaling 4k and even HDR which increases the ambience
En mi pais (chile) el xbox series s carbon black cuesta 380$ y la ps5 digital tiene un costo de 500-550 asi que la diferencia de precio son unos 120$ entonces ay mucha diferencia entre los dos precios.
Baldur's Gate 3 released without coop on the S only so the game could be released on Xbox before 2024 - Larian will still keep working on adding coop mode for the S in a future update, so it may very well be a single exception and not a new standard. I strongly believe Microsoft will keep on trying their hardest to make sure the experience is the same across all systems.
Great and informative video! I'm currently still playing on an Xbox 1 and Dragons Dogma 2 comes out in March, and won't be released on Xbox 1. So i plan on upgrading, my question is, does the Xbox S seem like a reasonable way to play DD2? I had seen people talking about it overheating which gave me flashbacks of the red ring of death from the Xbox 360 days lol.
I’ve had no problem with the series s overheating. People put games consoles in cupboards and all sorts of weird places with bad air flow and then complain of them overheating. Duh! I have mine in the tv cabinet but make sure I have the door open when I’m playing on the series s. No problems. It definitely runs hotter than the series x but then again it’s a more compact size so I kind of expect that.
@@MyTechGearGaming When you put it like that it completely makes sense haha. I didn't even consider my Xbox 1 puts out enough heat to warm my whole room and have never had any issues with it. Thank you Sir!
And also getting a EXTERNAL ssd is a good idea. Even on carbon black anyways. As SSD wear out... So what I do is. I install games inside. But once it has 70go free. I don't install anymore. And I get on external SSD. And the games on the internal SSD stay for good. Only the external will handle the uninstall and reinstall phases. That way the console last longer. Because once it's dead. We can't change the SSD it's paired to the console with an encrypted key...
Given that they've just announced a PS5 redesign, that would seem unlikely. They might start offering discounts on the older design though. Who knows with Sony.
I can see price being a problem in terms of storage upgrade but in terms of performace, you will get an almost identical experience as the X with minor differences graphically. The fact of the matter is BG3 devs are complaining for the sake of it because we have games like COD which are demanding games running up to 120fps on a Series S. I have an S and I don't see a point in upgrading when I can do the same things as an X with only a few things being different but not worth an extra $200 to me
I've been playing on PS4 since 2016, I'm saving up for a gaming PC but now I'm tempted to get an Xbox Series S next payday, just so I can play some next-gen games until I have enough for a PC.
Save the money on the series s he just told you it won't play everything cuz it holds back the series x. Save that money towards that pc whether building or buying a pre build you'll be happier later trust me. That pc will play everything the xbox comes out with has the gamepass pc option. Plus pc exclusives. The only games you can't play on pc gamepass are the 360 and og games at least for now. But you can stream playstation games through the pc version of ps now and you can play old ps games. The problem here tho is you don't get the ps5 variant to stream. But as an overall experience and long term cost the pc is going to be the best and cheapest option.
To be fair, Western Digital is still grossly overcharging. You could probably buy an equivalent 1TB m.2 SSD for $50, so they're basically charging you $100 for the casing and the connector.
It is still high compared to the equivalent sized storage nvme. But I’ll take any price reduction as a win at the moment. It’s down to $125 on Amazon at the moment too so the price is coming down.
The funny thing is majority of gamers that have a Xbox series S don't have it connected to a specific 1440p 120hrtz monitor/TV. Most have a nice 1080p television connected to their Xbox so most aren't even running it at full capacity. I wonder how many Xbox series x gamers have that device running on a true 1440p or 4k 120hrtz monitor with a faster HDMI 2.1 cable to handle 120hrtz speeds.
And if you want to be technical about it it pretty much can stand it own ground against the PlayStation 5 digital because without the PlayStation 5 hard drive for disc and 4k the Xbox one x is practically better than a PlayStation 5 digital too be honest
I really needed to watch this video because I dont't have any console now and thinking long term PS5 will a good option, but that game pass is very attractive. I guess microsoft thought of short term while Sony thought of long term.
actually getting the 80 quid expansion pack is the cheapest option for the OG white series s than buying an entire new console for 450 with a 1TB hard drive or am i wrong.
If you already have a series S and want more storage, then yes, buying a whole new console doesn’t make much sense. If you don’t have either then the carbon black is the better option ( unless you can find the OG for significantly less)
The US are the main viewers of this channel so my prices quoted always reflect that. PS5 prices, and XBox ones too, vary around the world. I’m in New Zealand and in a similar boat to yourself.
@@MyTechGearGaming I've heard that multiple times from different youtubers. If I can be honest, that is such a dangerous excuse. If you wonder why, because you make seem like the prices are closer when comparing the 2 systems in general. Which is a VERY dangerous attitude to take imo. Because, what that does is possibly convince someone to buy a much more expensive system than they expected if they trust YOUR word. You know what I mean?
Should i get and xbox series s carbon black or ps5 digital? Because i am not buying games, i am going to stay at free to play section so i can't play the ps5 exclusive anyways, plus am not going 4k. Now you suggest me
Im on my way to buy next month. Thinking of the black. I dont have hundreds of dollars for the series x and also just have a 1080p plasma tv. Only reason i am upgrading my xbox one... because on game pass the games i want to play all comes with not compatible with your system and this is going to happen more often. I had a ps1, ps2, ps3 and ps4. Then got the xbox one. And it is doubling as a movie setup for my tv. GREAT at that feature. Ps4... not so great. So I will not go back to ps anymore.
I don’t game all the time and I have an old video game collection. The series s is perfect for emulation and the games I wanna play aren’t that demanding anyway. I paid £150 for my s white. I only play in 1080p as my eyes went that great anyway, storage is an issue tho, but u can shuffle them to and from the internal storage with a usb drive/ external drive. While I think the series s will have issues running games, I think we will just have less graphical performance rather than games not running at all! Microsoft made a promise too and honestly the backlash wouldn’t be good publicity for them !
Rumour is this little beast have only equal "RTX" 1060 3gb graphic card. It can't handle Fallout 4 near Goodneighbour entrance or being in the downtown area. Not a good investment if anyone want to play open world games.
That’s a crazy price! I know Amazon and some other places have been selling them around cyber Monday for that price. Who knows how long it will stay at that price though.
@@MyTechGearGaming right it was the one that came with Diablo I Googled black Friday series x and it shows up for Walmart curbside pickup just make sure it's in stock
Little misleading. The Series S will run all games. Now some of the features might not be implemented initially, but every game will be available for it. Perhaps down the road DEVS will be able to add whatever features that are missing.
Hi William. I wasn’t intending to mislead. I was putting ‘games and features’ under a single banner and calling out that the series s no longer has parity with the series x. I honestly do hope that this is a one off, but games only get bigger, not smaller, so I don’t think it’s the last we’ve seen of this.
If you’re not a top dollar gamer or Maybe you were just getting into gaming or you just want to play games you don’t have to have top quality, visuals or sound then Xbox series S is for you. It’s also for people that may want to play newer games but don’t have a big budget for it.
The only problem with the Xbox series s and the Xbox series s black is both of them doesn't have 4k and it doesn't put out 60 frame per second so on that note the Xbox one x is still practically stronger than the Xbox series s because the Xbox one x do have 4k and it can put out 60 frame per second making it much better than it brother Xbox series s black and white
The Series S doesn’t do 4K gaming but it’s never pretended too. It does do up to 120FPS though in some games ( e.g. call of duty warzone ). The series x was always the higher performing console. It’s got more graphical power and it’s more expensive to match.
if you want an Xbox at all its because you have looked past the ps5 already it would make no sense for someone to look at it again and change their decision based on a 50 dollar difference. that 50$ will justify itself within one month of gamepass
Wait for a sale on the carbon black or wait for the digital version of the series X. Other than this, just get the series S for the absolution cheapest you can get it for. BTW Series X is on holiday sale at $399 as of this comment post so ....
Gosh, what a hell wrong with all reviewers math. Why everybody says that 1TB model has more nett space than original 512GB model + 512GB extension card. If you summarise available space of the original model with external expansion it will be 364 + 512 which is 876GB against 802GB for a carbon model.🙄
I wasn’t aware I said that in the video. Whilst we’re on the subject though, your math is slightly wrong. The 512gb card only has 456GB of usage space once you plug it into an actual Xbox. So… 364 + 456 = 820. So , yes, technically it is larger than 802GB but not by much, and doing it that way is more expensive than just buying the carbon black. Hope that clears it up for people.
@@MyTechGearGaming yes Sir but my real question is Should I expect games like GTA 5 GTA 4 WWE 2k24 to come to switch Because I want to play 3rd party games like those ?
If you like Nintendo style games then stick with the switch. If you prefer games like GTA5 then I’d look elsewhere. Have you considered portable PCs like the Asus ROG Ally? It’s portable and you can play your PC games on the move.
I have the white one and serious space problems I can only have two games destiny 2 and black ops 3 wished I spent the extra and got the black one but I do still have my Elite Xbox one 1tb with the solid state harddrive so can’t complain to much
Ps5 digital blows Xbox series s out of the water. If though Xbox series x is more powerful then ps5 the ps5 plays games smoother with less frame rate drops.
How much storage is need for you is depends on what games do you play. I have installed 7 games on my 512gb series s and I still had 110 gb free space. ...and keep your PS5... there are few really must have PS5 exclusive games and doesn't worth to buy a console for them for me. Peace. And games are not more complex just they have higher graphics (sometimes) and need bigger storage.
I’ve always bought x boxes because I’m a halo fan but I know eventually everything is going to be going digital and I’ve had a lot of issues with Xbox I did have the o g PlayStation and idk maybe I’d make the switch.
That's not the reason people get Xbox series X , it's cheaper and most it might be the games exclusive . Easy jump into new next generation and give great experience , maybe you want both now it's very achievable to have both. Money exchange rates and so on make it much cheaper than ps version
It's not worth buying the 1tb Xbox Series S if you already have a Xbox Series S. Just buy extra storage for the same price and you've got way more storage than 1tb. You can find really good deals on 2tb ssd cards for the console. You can get even more storage by getting a 8tb external hard drive for less. All you have to do is transfer the games you want onto the internet ssd which transfers at 1gb per second. You could just sell your current Xbox Series S and get the Xbox Series X also. The only way the new Xbox Series S 1tb is worth it is if you never had a Xbox Series S before. Personally, I play on Xbox Cloud Gaming and the GeForce Now app on my phone and tablet to play cheap. If you have a direct ethernet connection to your laptop, then you'll have smooth gaming as if you have a PC or console. Sorry for the long essay😂

Hell yeah 👍
Love for black 🖤
I have a 2 TB Seagate expansion card for the Xbox.
I do too and it doesn’t work on any Series X/S Games
Thanks, and I’m glad you’re enjoying both consoles.
With 3 new XBox's announced coming before Christmas, it's going to be pricing that is key as to whether these models boost XBox sales or not.
Not in the uk
@@davestationuk7374 I got the series s Carbon black a couple of weeks ago and the console really doesn’t disappoint
@@davestationuk7374 they sell it in Ireland so should be in UK too
One thing which many people dont take into account is how amazingly conpact the series S is.
Yeah the x is a monster. I love it
What they need to do is make a special edition.
Sounds like you’ve got a great setup! 😊
Bru like it's the developers fault that are too lazy
I have the carbon black one but i have over 30 games since only like 5 of them are over 50 gigs
If you want to be able to play Xbox exclusives and don’t own a 4K screen the series s is the right choice
Sea gate is 110$ for a starfield 2 tb on Amazon. In the states the series s is $150 at Costco and the X is $350
Then the S would be a nice option. The SS was 230€ here and the SX 420€ on sale. 500gb SSD is 100€ minimum.
@@levi5468 For sure man! Those are all great priced imo
Can you still get a PS5 digital for $400? Hard to find, and I think they are being phased out.
the current model will get phased out as the new model comes in.
@@MyTechGearGaming I'm pretty sure the new PS5 slim digital model is $450 though.
Sony announced the pa5 ‘slim’ after this video was released. And they also increased the price by $50 for the digital version only.
Split screen couch co-op is surprisingly not really used all that much anymore great the half of its there very rarely used
1:27 im sorry but he just told us that a console with more storage, has more storage than one with less storage. Gigabrained
I disagree, price is good, they should've had a 2tb model instead for that price
When I upgrade my TV to 8K then I’ll buy the X. Honestly waiting for the Xbox digital version that’s oval shaped.
won't deny your logics but should've considered the gamepass the one of the main reasons for xbox s being great now.
I do mention game pass in the video
It's better than my xbox one s, so I'm good.
Here’s to hoping. 🤞
You’re welcome. Enjoy your new Xbox when you get it! 😊
PS5 doesn't have Flight Simulator. Why many purchased XBOX.
I have a PS5 and Steam Deck. Considering getting a Series S to use Gamepass. No game streaming service is better than Gamepass.
I think im gonna get a ps5 if there is a Christmas discount
Given that they've just announced a PS5 redesign, that would seem unlikely. They might start offering discounts on the older design though. Who knows with Sony.
I can see price being a problem in terms of storage upgrade but in terms of performace, you will get an almost identical experience as the X with minor differences graphically. The fact of the matter is BG3 devs are complaining for the sake of it because we have games like COD which are demanding games running up to 120fps on a Series S. I have an S and I don't see a point in upgrading when I can do the same things as an X with only a few things being different but not worth an extra $200 to me
Both consoles have their place, and I happily play on both.
Yes. I just wish xbox gas a m. 2 slot lol. I can add 1tb ssd for 50 and total cost on console would be 250
The funny thing is majority of gamers that have a Xbox series S don't have it connected to a specific 1440p 120hrtz monitor/TV.
Should I buy the carbon black edition or the normal. Because, the prices are alot in my country.
Get the one that you can afford.
This is only focusing on a single market - the US. Here in Canada the S 1TB is $449 where the PS5 digital is $649.
Now you suggest me
Get a pre owned white series s, or whatever the cheapest option is where you live.
@@MyTechGearGaming what about the heat at new black s??? It is ok ??
Same as the original series s.
So I will not go back to ps anymore.
i wish games and subscriptions cost a little less on series s.
I jsut bought the 1tb series s from DELL for $299 Cyber Monday deal. Best deal ever on a console
That is a good price! 👍
I have a Xbox one elite which has a 1tb hard disk so, I would have thought that the latest console's would have been a lot bigger. Steve
Got the series x for 350 today pretty good deal
That’s a crazy price! I know Amazon and some other places have been selling them around cyber Monday for that price. Who knows how long it will stay at that price though.
@@MyTechGearGaming right it was the one that came with Diablo I Googled black Friday series x and it shows up for Walmart curbside pickup just make sure it's in stock
yes your right about the price, you didn't talk about all the full price games on the ps5 and gamepass is easy to get gaming to on the xbox
Update 2 months later series s tends sit at like 250$ now or 280$
If you’re not a top dollar gamer or Maybe you were just getting into gaming or you just want to play games you don’t have to have top quality, visuals or sound then Xbox series S is for you.
In my country the ps5 digital is $200 more expensive than the 1tb series s
I almost picked one of these up for £300, then Black Friday hit and the series x was discounted to £360. No brainer.
Score! 😊
Got the Forza horizon deal at £369.
@@simongreen525 absolute bargain
It was a good deal for me because I only play xbox exclusives. I bought mine yesterday and I love it.
Glad to hear that you’re enjoying yours so much.
if you want an Xbox at all its because you have looked past the ps5 already it would make no sense for someone to look at it again and change their decision based on a 50 dollar difference.
that 50$ will justify itself within one month of gamepass
Wait for a sale on the carbon black or wait for the digital version of the series X. Other than this, just get the series S for the absolution cheapest you can get it for. BTW Series X is on holiday sale at $399 as of this comment post so ....
During black Friday series X was reduced to less than 400€. NO reason to buy a Series S anymore
I have 2 options
Should I buy Nintendo switch or Xbox series S?
I like portability
I think you just answered your own question. 😊
@@MyTechGearGaming yes Sir but my real question is
Should I expect games like GTA 5
GTA 4
WWE 2k24 to come to switch
Because I want to play 3rd party games like those ?
If you like Nintendo style games then stick with the switch. If you prefer games like GTA5 then I’d look elsewhere. Have you considered portable PCs like the Asus ROG Ally? It’s portable and you can play your PC games on the move.
@@engraateer9768The switch is going to end its life cycle very soon. Rumors are that 2024 is when they announced the new switch. I say wait.

Just wait for holoday sale. I picked up a series X for $350 lol
Ps5 digital blows Xbox series s out of the water.
If though Xbox series x is more powerful then ps5 the ps5 plays games smoother with less frame rate drops.
I still don’t think these are real reasons to not buy it.
I've got Series S and X plus gaming PC and PS5, I thought fck it you only live once
What do you typically play on each one? And what do you play on the most?
PC milsim
Arma Reforger Arma 3
Meanwhile you can get a 1tb m.2 for $50 or less most of the time. We’re stuck on Xbox with overinflated prices on memory. A joke.
Are u saying the ps3 could beat the series s
When did I say that?
I bought carbon black in UAE it cost me 1450 AED
That's not the reason people get Xbox series X , it's cheaper and most it might be the games exclusive . Easy jump into new next generation and give great experience , maybe you want both now it's very achievable to have both. Money exchange rates and so on make it much cheaper than ps version
It’s not disk space since it’s SSD
Long essays are more than welcome! 😊 I agree, I wouldn't upgrade from a Series S to a Series S Carbon Black, that doesn't really make any sense.
I bought a Series X from Walmart the week before Christmas for $350.
They did have a crazy sale on over Christmas. It made the Series X an absolute bargain! 😊
I just paid 250.00 GBP in Argos for the carbon black so super cheap
