For anyone who's thinking of getting the Series S I would definitely recommend waiting until the 1st September when the Carbon Black Edition is released. It will cost an extra $50 but you will get twice the storage (1TB). You can pre-order it now on Amazon here amzn.to/448Va7S Do you think the extra storage is worth the $50?
If you’re referring to the new carbon black edition, then it’s just more storage. It won’t load games any faster than the OG Series S. in fact both the Series X and Series S load games in about the same amount of time as shown in the tests in this video. Hope that all helps.
I’ve been trying to figure out which one I should get for my birthday and now I know to go with the S. This video is very informative, that’s a solid subscribe right there lol.
Thanks! If you’re getting a series s you might want to wait until 1st sept as they are now releasing a black version with twice the storage for the same price! You can check it out here www.xbox.com/en-US/consoles/xbox-series-s/carbon-black
I love having an M.2 external SSD Literally dropped off GTA V and a bunch of other games onto my Dad’s console in a matter of minutes I mean, seeing the letters “GB” on your transfer speed is just Numbingly Insane!
Great video, great explanations. It feels weird that people have to be told some of these points. I have meet people complaining about upgrading and not seeing a difference between high end GPU's when they still run a 8 year old gaming monitor.
One thing to keep in mind is future Xbox consoles will be digital only. It looks like they will be moving away from discs which can be a bummer if you have a bunch of discs.
Finally a review that tells you the differences between series s and series x gaming wise! So many reviews out there that don’t explain the differences while gaming with regards to resolution! Thanks for explaining it and showing that there really isn’t a difference in the two consoles other than size, optical drive and price
$220 for an expansion ssd is crazy!! Your video is really helpful because I use my ps5 as my main unit for games and exclusives and wanted to buy an xbox to use there gampass and exclusive games. It was really helpful to know that the series s is the better option for me and i wont be spending $500 on the series x.
The Seagate expansion card is pretty expensive! There’s been some interesting developments in this area over the last month or so though that’s changed that! Watch this space for a video coming out soon 😊
@VintageKrisItsMe , yep I would definitely recommend waiting for 1st September and getting the new black edition of the Series S if you're looking at getting that console. an extra $50 for twice the storage is a bit of a no-brainer. You can pre-order it on Amazon at the moment here amzn.to/47wNezS
I have an S and I have 6TB plug into the USBs (two drives) most of the games will run off them but, X/S games. I just transfer those games when I want to play them.
Thank you for the review, this was great help in deciding which to buy the Xbox Series X or S. I have my computer full of games and been wanting to upgrade, and I think the S series would be best for me. I can buy an external drive that will make me happy with any gaming I should need. Thanks for your help😄
Glad I could help! Microsoft are releasing a new Black Edition XBox Series S on 1st September that will have double the storage so if you are thinking of buying one I would wait until then. (you can also pre-order it now to get it on release day here amzn.to/3KR38f5 )
Very helpful in choosing a console, it's slightly more expensive in Canada but I'll probably get the x for it's disc drive. Really appreciate the explanation for less technically minded folks like me
Either console will play them just fine. If you go back to some of the really early CoD games, even an xbox 360 that you have lying around will play them!
@@MyTechGearGaming I wonder if my kids will love some Fifa (or EA what the name will be) night runs. Personnally, would you recommend the new Xbox Series S over the actual Series X?
I still stick by what I said in the video. I think it depends on how much you’re going to use it, what you’re going to play on it, and importantly what size and resolution display it is hooked up to. If you have a 1080p tv then the series s is more than enough. They just announced a new Carbon Black version of the Series S that has twice the storage of the original Series S and so is worth waiting for if you’re hedging towards the Series S.
The 3 nearest GameStops have closed where I live. So can’t get used games (other than online but the effort of that) and I can’t remember the last time I used a cd/dvd/Blu-ray. I’ve Samsung Frame TV and a crap 32 HD in the office, I have PlayStation power cable and HDMI already plugged in into each so moving the box itself is handy so I’m not worried about 4K. I’m kinda thinking with the Activision deal I’ll want to play old COD games and the likes Starfield and new Elder Scrolls on an XBOX. Think I’ll go for the S. thanks so much.
Hi @Lilyomtm - From the forza official support page - "Forza Horizon 5 runs at 4K 30 FPS on Xbox Series X, and 1080p 30 FPS on Xbox Series S. For players that prefer to optimize for framerate, we are providing a performance mode option that will run at 60 FPS." - So yes, it can run at 60fps, but it will do so with less graphical detail in order to do it. Glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
just viewed this video and found it very informative. Do you have any information you could share with us on the ne Xbox Series S Carbon Black - 1tb SSD?
Other than it being black instead of white, the only other differences are that it will come with twice the storage (1TB) and will cost an extra $50 ($349 vs $299 for the standard Series S). It's released on 1st Sept but you can pre-order it already on Amazon here amzn.to/448Va7S Do you think the extra storage is worth the $50?
@MyTechGear definitely worth keeping in, adds to the relatablilty factor I guess knowing that as youre making your videos life still goes on around you 😁
Im considering getting a next gen in the near future but i am at the decision of series x or s but im not in particulary bothered if the console has a disk drive and not bothered about having the best frames and graphics so would it be best to go for s?
1: Is it worth getting one now or should I wait until next gen? 2: Can I set max FPS to focus on graphical fidelity or vice versa or does the game do this for me?
Next gen are a few years away. We’re only really at the start of the current gen. Some games let you set frame rate and graphical fidelity, some don’t. It depends on the game.
I have an S and I have 6TB plug into the USBs (two drives) most of the games will run off them but, X/S games. I just transfer those games when I want to play them.
Yep, that’s what I was doing to start with with the Series S. With more and more games being X|S optimised, and games getting larger, that is getting annoying now though. There is a new Series S coming out soon that would definitely help with that though.
Interesting. I’m having trouble with animations with frame rate drops on certain games such as Madden NFL 24 and mlb the show 23. On Madden, there is a performance mode you can choose during set up or an image quality mode on the series x. On the series s it doesn’t allow that. I’m wondering why that is if it’s the same game?
Hi Matt. A number of games don't have the same modes on the Series S compared to the Series X as the S isn't as powerful as the X so can;'t support the same resolutions and/or frame rates. So often on the S you don't get any options as it's already running as well as it can. It varies from game to game.
@@MyTechGearGaming I’m having an issue with my series x where my series x won’t detect a wired connection with an Ethernet cable. What should I do? I saw that an Ethernet switch might fix the issue.
I’d just try a different cable first. Also, if you connected to a wifi connection before, go into settings and select the forget wifi connection option. See if those two things help before buying more gear.
it depends if you value the improvements as worth the upgrade. The Series S gives you up to 1440p output, 120Hz support, and a faster SSD. For fps games that 120Hz support is definitely worth thinking about.
You can use pretty much any tv or monitor with an hdmi port with your Series. To get the most out of it though you do need one that is capable of 4K and 120FPS.
