Thanks to you I bought the M200 with a F nib and I am so glad you shared this, The fine nib does flex and something I been looking for, the Pelikan M200 is a great sketching fountain pen.... thank you Teoh!!
Hi! I bought the pelikan M200 fine nib and did some small sketches for a children book project with it. It is perfect for this kind of work as I can write and draw with the same pen and be precise when needed. The pen is really confortable to use for me: good size and very light, soft springy feel on the nib: all this for a rather affordable price...I wonder how are the expensives sailor nibs but, really, they cost the earth! I will try the pelikan M200 steel broad nib to see if I can do larger drawings with it. Thank you very much for your videos: they are very well made and useful!
+pe I don't use the expensive Sailor nibs that much. I fear I might accidentally drop them. LOL. The broad nib gives nice broad lines but does not have the same springy feel as it is very stiff.
+Teoh Yi Chie I tried the broad nib and yes it is really stiff...but I bought the BB steel nib it is good for larger drawings and you can get some slight line variations...no springy feel however, but is it possible to have broad lines and good flexibility?
Hello Teoh, I am following all your videos. By seeing this video i have decided to buy this one many months back but hesitated and postphoned because it is steel nib but priced as gold nib. But finally i got this pen today (black green marble fine nib. But to my surprise this is a fantastic pen and best for sketching portraits. This even better than many gold nib pens. Thank you for your video. Tangirala Durga
hi Teoh, I have treated myself to this pen for drawing, £100 in the UK so its a bit pricey for a fountain pen, but I like it very much, and has a bigger capacity for ink. Love the transparent case. A shame you dont get a nice case with this as it cost £100, all you get is a flimsy paper tube. If they were not so expensive I would buy more and have a colour coded selection. Heres to loads of drawing !!
another great video. Teoh...you are my favorite artist youtuber. I am very new to sketching and watercolor. I just started. I would like to know if you have, or can you direct me to a beginners step-by-step sketching tutorial that teaches your style of sketching? thank you
Hello, You have me considering purchasing a Pelikan 200. I am not sure which nib to get. I understand the benefits of the Fine nib. I was considering the Extra Fine instead to start with. I need your opinion. My Lamy Safari is my only fountain pen and I am a beginner wanting to learn to sketch. ( I do enjoy writing with the fountain pen as well...( so far). I had the Lamy medium nib and it was too wide, I tried the fine nib and it was difficult to notice any difference from their medium...so I am now using their Extra Fine. That is the reason I was thinking of starting out with the Pelikan Extra fine...especially being new to sketching would I appreciate the Pelikan Fine nib over the Extra Fine. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you
It's difficult for me to suggest which nib to get because it really comes down to personal preference. For example, I prefer fine to medium and can't work with extra fine lines. The Fine on the Pelikna looks like a standard Fine so the EF should be noticeably thinner, but not so thin that it digs into the paper like a Zebra G nib.
Hi... I am wondering if you could tell me if the 2019 Pelikan M200 AND the M205 fine nib both still have the flex property that you demonstrated in this video? If so, I would love to add this as a sketching pen. Thank you! How does it sketch upside down? Great videos you produce, thank you.
Just received a M200 Smoky Quartz with a F nib. Very flexible! Lots of line width variability. Must be careful to maintain the same nib pressure to control line width and keep it consistent. Actually a little tricky and requires some concentration.
Thank you for your videos, very well made! Could just tell me if all Pelican's M200 classic fine nibs are the same? So is it the same if I buy a pelikan M200 classic special edition with a fine nib or just a classic M200 fine nib to set on another M200 pelikan pen? Thank you for your help!
I got the Falcon before the Pelikan, I see this comment is 6 years old so you probably own both by now, but I like my Pelikans more than my Pilots on average. I'd still go for a Falcon over an M200 but not over an M400.
You can get it on Amazon USA. It comes in different colours. It's probably on eBay as well. www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pelikan+m200&tag=ttmus-20
Really enjoyed this review, thanks. I never considered this pen as seems that it would be too small for me but now I'm tempted. What would you say this one compares to regarding size?
Hi Teoh, how does this pen compared to the Namiki Falcon? I watched your review on that as well. It seems similar in performance, but why do you like this better?
Hi Teoh- I wanted to let you know, I hope it's Ok that I put a link to this video in my own review of a vintage M200. I really like the way you draw with the pens in your reviews, I think it's very informative for artists.
I see there are other colours of this pen, just not the transparent version. eBay is selling at very expensive prices, 3x more. It's a good pen. I'm still using it. I love it because of the large ink capacity.
@@teohyc thank you. I found online a shop at Pennisula Plaza selling this at SGD220. Should it okay price already? :) I see few version of them from different years, which one should I get? thepelikansperch.com/2018/06/28/pelikan-m2xx-clear-demonstrators/ Thank you 🙏
Danny from Fook Hing Trading Co had shown me this M200 demonstrator, very rare, but this pen fails to impress me, it is not cheap, the old retail price tag was S$200 which I found it hard to swallow, the pen is light (very very light) and it looks and feels like a cheap plastic pen my cheap Paili 013 demonstrator pen (vacuum filler) is heavier and better quality. I love Pelikans and I have 4 M200s and 1 M205, M800, M805, M600, M605 all are great writers and with good finishes, a demonstrator is definitely not to my taste.
Hi Teoh, I want to upgrade my FP collection, I currently have a Lamy Safari and Pilot Metropolitan. I love them both. If I were to choose one of the upper end pens, what should I choose among 1. Pelikan M200 EF, 2. TWSBI 580 EF, 3. Lamy 2000 EF, 4. Kaweco Supra EF or 5. Pilot Custom 74. Which one would be the best in terms of value and fine writing experience. I am graduate student, so would usually use it for long period of writing.

I know I’m late, but you can also buy M400 nib to fit your M200
Going to buy one--birthday gift for me from me. Thanks. This review helped.
A great pen for a greater artist. What a magic! I liked a lot this video

It is expensive but pricing is actually considered low mid range. It’s pricy but it will last for a long time. Mine is few years old now
I love my Noodlers Ahab for the same reason. Nice variation of line. And can load a
lot of ink.
Thanks for the Review. I am planing to get this pen one day and this review is very helpful.
Thanks :-)
I like the way he says prezzzure

Smooth, you should try it.
Very talented and the 200 is impressive to 👍😎🇦🇺
Does the 2020 fine nib have similar line variations as the one your purchased years ago ?
Not sure since I don’t have the 2020 nib
Great video!
M200 still your favorite sketching FP?
Yes

You have to go slow when nib is upside down

Hi,
Mind to shall where can I find this fountain pen in Singapore?
Fook Hing at Bras Basah Complex or ArtFriend, Amazon.sg

Message well noted with thank, will scout around Bras Basah this weekend.
+Teoh Yi Chie Well it does look the same...I'll try! Thank you for your help!
using noodlers bulletproof black ink how often you clean your pen?
+nicola boninsegni This pen? Not very often. If I use the pen often, I don't clean it often.
Teoh Yi Chie ok thank you
Hi Yi Chie, is using platinum carbon black ink ok with the m200?
Should be alright
Great review. I'm trying to choose between the Falcon and the Pelikan M200 for drawing. Do they hold about the same amount of ink? Thanks.
M200 has a larger ink capacity because it's using the body to hold the ink while the other is using cartridge.

thanks for the nice review! really helpful
+Seifenschaum Thanks 😁
You should pick up a Pilot 912 with an FA nib, or a Pilot Falcon. The nibs are more flexible and are easier to flex.
+a.zy.lee I've a Pilot Falcon too.
I know you like the Pelikan M200 overall as the best sketching pen...got a top 3 or 4 favorites?
Pelikan M200 and Sailor Zoom Nib are the ones I use most often.
Do you know what is the difference between the M200 and M205?
M200 gold trim and M205 silver trim.
Hey, do you know where I can buy these fountain pens from? Thanks!

+Teoh Yi Chie Thanks
What waterproof ink do you use? You are awesome
It's Noodler's Bulletproof Black

Pelikan M200 holds a lot of ink. Other than that, the writing performance is pretty similar. They are all good. Choose the one that looks good to you
@@teohyc Thanks ! And is there any difference in between M205 or m200, IN TERMS OF WRITING EXPERIENCE ?
@@adwnasa1 It's the same writing experience. Just different in design that's all. Actually I'm not sure what's the design difference also.
@Teoh Yi Chie , great videos! Thanks.
@Patro, Pelikans ending in 5 indicate a silver color trim, ending in 0 means gold color trim.
So i can use just normal ink for paintings ?
or its special ink ?
+Adnan Rafiq You need waterproof ink. E.g. Noodler's Bulletproof black, Platinum Carbon ink, Sailor Kiwa Guro

You use some expensive supplies Teoh
So Teoh...if you had to choose between the Pelikan M200 fine and a Pilot Custom 74 Medium...which one would you choose and why? Thanks man!
I prefer M200 for the slightly springy nib. But Pilot Custom 74 is more beautiful. M200 looks too too.
