finally a review of the x-t50 from someone who daily drove it. My thoughts on the X-T50 is exactly the same except the sdcard take. It's actually very easy to pop out if you don't try to grab it with two fingers. Just press your index finder on the middle ledge of the card and feel for the lip with your finger nail and pull it out. It's actually effortless once you get the hang of it. I went through a similar situation when I was buying my XT50. Had a T3, decided to get the XT50 instead of the XT5 for the size and use the T3 for video until I got a Lumix S5iix for video. And then I decided to downsize even further and rid of the S5iix and XT3 for a S9. The XT50 with an S9 combo is the lightest setup you will ever have and I recommend giving it a try.
Thanks for the tip on the SD Card, I’ll give it a shot. As for the S5IIX, my review is coming but a little spoiler, I’ve been truly shocked by it. I got it for video but once I started using it for landscape photography work, I have just been blown away by the images. And for that reason, I really do prefer having the EVF. But the S9 is on my radar as a second video camera.
Small size fits Fuji the best, i agree. Sold my x pro3 for that reason which i felt was to big. I grabbed my good old x e2 much more often just for the form factor. For vintage glass i got a bulky Lumix full frame, but i love Fuji's low profile look and feel for everyday use.
Totally agree. I kept this camera, even though I’m branching out to other systems, because I always want to have Fujifilm in my kit and this is such a great version of them at their best.
I love the Auto button on the X-T30. It's got me out of a lot messes. You can still use exposure compensation if you want to. Have they removed this facility from the X-T50? Can you change film sim. in Auto mode beyond the trio that you have on the X-T30 (standard, B&W, sepia)?
I didn’t put it through that much testing. I switched to it and saw that I couldn’t control anything and immediately switched it off and haven’t used it since that one time. I’m certain you’d be able to twist the dial and change the film sim, it’s the defining feature of the camera.
My first comment was made earlier in the video, and now I want to comment on your bringing up the Nikon ZF. I have the Nikon ZF and two things I love about it is the retro style and that it is so easy to go into B&W mode, so when the XT50 was released, i thought this would be a perfect every day shooter that would give me more options to shoot in. If you are a dedicated raw shooter then i would say that this is not the best choice, but there are many people who don't shoot raw all the time and went a nice every day shooter for personal photography, i beats using a smartphone by a country mile. It's an easy camera to use and a great option for some one that wants to get more serious in photography than just using a smartphone.
I use Lightroom and it has camera matching color profiles. So I shoot raw only, no jpg, but the film sim I had used when I shot the photo is matched in Lightroom. Of course, it’s raw so I can change it, but I like starting with the matched color profile and editing from there. It’s why I love Classic Neg so much, it’s a great starting point in raw.
Totally agree, ditched my order for X100vi and got XT50 paired with my 23mm great travel camera. Used for 3 months in Thailand. I did keep my X100f which I still love.
I have several different cameras from Fujifilm and I have the same problem with the small amount of room between the lens and grip, especially with the larger glass. I bought a leather half case, and it works much better. The case is very form fitting, but the material makes it easier to hold the camera.
I’m sure there’s some greener looking grass over there and definitely some reasons to choose the X-T5 like the weather sealing out 3rd axis of tilt screen, but then you choose that and wish it were smaller.
Own the xt50, really like it, actually think the auto works well for me, for a travel camera just switch and pass to anyone and bingo I'm in the shot aswell
You’re the 2nd to mention the auto mode. Everyone has different needs, it was a weakness for me. Kind of like the battery, lots of people feel it’s a weakness but it works for my needs.
Does the auto mode allow taking RAW images ? (not possible on the X-T20, which sucks - because it would give better possibilities of "correcting" the auto "decision")
@rasmus619 Yep both jpeg and raw can be saved in auto aswell, just tested to be 100% sure. Also on my newish phone Raw photos can even be uploaded to phone via xapp (although I do choose to resize these)
I replaced it with a Panasonic Lumix S5IIX a few months ago. I made a video about it. It was mostly for video reasons but that camera has been a surprise for photography as well.
This is a heartbreaking camera...Amazing features, amazing specs, amazing ergonomics, amazing price...but *unreliable* autofocus...With Fuji cameras I was frequently getting out of focus or unusable shots and videos that had to be thrown out. I thought I could deal with it and brush it off, but it just kept happening too much. This was never a problem on Sony, the Sony are totally reliable and I did not have to throw out shots unless I messed it up myself. I had to get rid of my Fuji after some important shots ended up having focus pulsating and tracking problems. I remember sitting there for 8 hours just trying to fake-sharpen and fix it in post, then I realized I had to make the decision about no more Fuji allowed in my projects.
Unfortunately I agree, which is why I encourage the use of manual lenses near the end of the video. The Panasonic Lumix S5IIX I bought for my channel, and it quietly took over for my landscape photo work. The difference in focusing has been eye opening. No pun intended
@@ChrisFreitag Thanks, your honesty is cool. To be totally honest, the reason I post comments like this is because I'm trying to be manipulative and influence Fuji towards improving autofocus because I love Fuji and I want to get back into Fuji. I know there's a 99.8% chance they won't read the comment, but I figure that if I'm posting anything and leaving it sitting there on the internet, I might as well be strategic.
The xt50 doesn’t have the same autofocus problems the xt5 has had. With the new kit lens I haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve had the xt50 for 3 months
I forgot to mention the flash! But it’s in my blog post here

A cracking talk.nThank you so much. I was seriously considering the XT 5, but the price is scary. I am now seriously looking at the XT 50
Glad i could help!
Excellent video my man! I've been so intrigued by the T50 since its launch, and you make it seem like a good idea!
Much love from Tennessee
test it. I have it. it's a hit and miss. high noise
Same can be said for X-T5 and X-H2. I think some like the noise
Thank you!

A fantastic video, Chris! You made me go for an X-T50. I was in a dilemma whether to go for an X-T5 or this X-T50! Thank you! 👍

Always room for a good fixed-lens camera. I just got one myself, just not Fujifilm…

I’ve considered that before, but haven’t found a case that I like.
good review. I am still ambivalent about it. If I could make the choice again I would probably take the x-t5 but I am trying to ajust.

@@andrewleeds504 Great thanks for checking and posting 🙂
135mm on aps-c is so fun! I have a lens like that too and its my favorite prime lens right now.
Agreed! And the lens I got has some interesting characteristics that make for fun images
Wait what happened to your XH-2?
I replaced it with a Panasonic Lumix S5IIX a few months ago. I made a video about it. It was mostly for video reasons but that camera has been a surprise for photography as well.
Great camera only wish they added weather sealing, then it would be perfect.
I can’t believe I forgot to talk about weather sealing 🤦♂️
Neat
👌

@zyxyuv1650 I think they are hearing these complaints, I’m just not sure they know how to fix it.

Get a Nikon Zfc instead. Better AF, more direct controls and much more affordable.
Or get the camera you’d like to get!
I skipped the backstory lol
That’s what chapters are for, you’re welcome.
