Gavin, a tip of the hat to you, as I approach 70 my issues with heights has gotten so bad, that I could now never lean over the railing to get that pano. Nice work, lovely images. Even if they are fake, lol. By the way, I do remember the video you did when taking the photo in Canada. Cheers.
True. The Justin Bieber Canyon that nobody outside Iceland can pronounce properly. Thatˋs why I call it Justin Bieber Canyon or F-Canyon, because it starts with an F. Besides, after Justin Bieber‘s music video in this Canyon in 2015, the whole flora of this Canyon was destoyed by about 600.000 fans who visited this epic place. In early 2016 the Canyon was closed by the authorities for half a year, so that nature could recover. Info end.
I know that look Amanda gave you when you were dropping hints about the telephoto being in the car, lol. I hate ticks too. I really do. You got some gorgeous images. Thanks for sharing!!!
Great watch as always Mr Fototripper. I asked AI to show me a photographer who is out taking images at 3am and it presented back a picture of someone wearing a hat inside out. Spooky!
Making me so excited to get to Iceland this year Gavin! Also just FYI that is a step UP ring. A step down would be to fit a smaller filter on a larger filter threaded lens.
I've always loved that image and in knowing you, I knew there was no way it was fake and only your abilities. I'll hopefully be standing on close to that same spot this September. I doubt snow on that coming day but some yellow-leaved trees and greenish blue water.
@@fototripper I see. Thank you. What is interesting about your videos, Gavin, besides of your talent and experience, is that old friend Adam Gibbs is still in each of them. :^)))
Ok you two!- you have most likely just cost me untold $$$ as I must now return to Iceland for a second venture. It has been calling for the last few years but you just pushed me over that railing. And now I must get down on the floor and search for my lower jaw as it fell off and rolled under the couch during that first pano. . . ❤
That image is a piece of ART! You don't fake anything Gavin… Sorry to disappoint, but you are to good at what you do. Keep it up ;) As usual, Cheers sir hehehe 🍺🍺
I agree. It's too perfect. I hate the shot. But, only because I'm jealous. Actually it's a tremendous shot and I wish I had taken it. Love Emerald Lake. You deserve credit for the work that went into creating the image.
Your Iceland images are so amazing. About 6 months ago we did a tour around the island, stopped at all those same sights, but sideways rain showed us a little different view. Thanks.
Great video as always. It’s important to highlight that we all use AI either directly or indirectly. Within Lightroom, photoshop etc a lot of the adjustments we make to our photos are only possible due to AI models. So in effect, all our images are AI enhanced. Or they are part of the process to generate the final images. Of course there is all the other AI in our modern cameras that assist with focus.
You take such amazing photographs that people think it's AI. That is a testament of how good you are. That is a compliment if I ever heard one. Love your channel 🙏🙏
I think the foreground lighting of the snow is as light as the background and so it makes it feel almost as if it's unreal and hence AI. That's the problem now, we're getting less confident at appreciating a very nicely edited real shot that is meant to convey an almost dreamlike feel to it
Mr Hardcastle. You are 'Guilty As Charged' We find your photography to be ranked as A.I. ........ AWESOMELY INCREDIBLE !!!! It cannot be helped. It's just another journey through your life of 'Stories Within Stories' ......Sorry about that, but thank you all the same. 😊
What's up Gavin? You know what? I don't care what you do you just can't please a hater because that is what they only know how to do. They're not going to get out there in the bitter cold, pouring rain, blazing heat at crazy o'clock in the morning and get those shots that you get. I'm 73 years old and just too old to hate. I love your work, keep doing what you do and get rich along the way. God Bless you my brother. Peace!
I have seen that same image or similar images from the same scene by other photographers. So, I know it's not AI. I suspected that they might be using new 5000K LED light bulbs in that little lodge or rest area. If a painter happened to be making a painting of the image I suspect he/she would use a warmer tone for more nostalgic appeal. If I remember correctly, there aren't very many good angles of composition available for this scene. I've had several unusual tonal surprised from shooting snow scenes at night. Some were blue, some surprisingly red but all were caused by anomalous lighting conditions that my eye didn't register when I was setting up the camera. Many of them caused by city streetlights from miles away. BTW, I loved your two pano shots from the overlook. Well thought out and nicely done.
The adjustments in colour and lighting and maybe sharpening are likely there, but isn't that pretty much what almost all photographers do? The snow in front of picture looks quite good, but certainly it must have been the nature which happened to provide he snow there in the way it is. Serge Ramelli (photographer) asked just lately if his photos are fake, but in the end, it is photographers core job to use the tools available to adjust the image, the same adjustments are made in studio too where the photographer controls the lightings and shadows. Where it really goes "beyond the limit" is when the actual content in the image is started to be changed and replaced, but even then, it's image editing, which also requires some skills on top of photographing.
Another banger video. Those geese are probably brants. They breed in Arctic regions all around the Northern hemisphere. I have a Peak Design CL-3 hand strap on my R5 Mark II. Like you, I mainly use a tripod. But it's great when handholding.
Nope, brants are only passage migrants in Iceland, but since there was some mostly white birds among those ducks, I would say those were common eiders, but sadly the footage did not show these close enough for that long, so I'm not absolutely sure. And I think a clamp or gorillapod with a ballhead would been nice for those valley shots as then you could have attached the camera to railing and get firm, stable shots.
Spectacular drone shots and what a difference the polarisor makes. I couldn't imagine myself doing a hand held shot over the railing and my camera is nowhere close to the price of yours.
It’s such a beautiful image, I’ve often looked at it and thought I’d love to have that image hanging on my lounge wall. Ignore the doubters. Some people (and AI obviously can’t see real creativity) Again an incredible photograph, as always. Thank you for great content 👏👍
If I over edit a photograph it looks somewhat fake too.... Some people spend a lot of time at the editing desk... I'm learning to not over edit my shots...
Do you have any 'making off' footage of that snowy image? I would love to see how you struggle in low temp conditions with your camera and battery + keeping warm.
Im disappointed Gavin. You create an AI image, then load it into lightroom and "show us" how you adjusted your raw file. Some people will go to any lengths to hide their AI creations. 😂😂😂 This is one of my favorite images of yours. It is stunningly beautiful.
I am not so worried about that picture, which I have a copy of and do put it out for the holidays - I am worried about Amanda, is she AI generated??? If so, maybe, as a friend, you should AI generate someone for Brent.
LOL i feel for you -- been there taken nearly the same image in winter, not quite as much snow but everything else good. Even asked the people on the house to put the lights on for my shot and they did :)
I have known this image for years and since I began to follow you. That was at a time when the term AI did not even exist. I know how you made this image and you have my sincere admiration for both the composition, the execution and the processing. It appears that AI still has a lot to learn 😮 … as for the Iceland images. My preference is the first image of the pano as a single image. As impressive as the landscape is (and of course your execution), the panorama is too much landscape with no obvious separation for my liking. 😊
Superb images, would love to join the Iceland workshop, but unless my Mum happens to kick the bucket soon it won't happen. Now over to my friend J.D Moneycounter who's popped over and would like some clarification on your Newfoundland tax declaration on which you stated that the Hasselblad is a 'child's toy'. So, he wants to know if it takes batteries? 😉
In Iceland you get some interesting light because you are close to the north pole. My wife and I were watching a sunset and she asked what time is it. I said the clock in the car is broke because it was all zeros. No she said it is midnight. But is was a sunset followed shortly by a sunrise. Iceland has some great lighting. Ben
I'm surprised the "AI critic" didn't mention the lack of star trails, that's the first thing I would look for. Of course the shot was probably taken with a wide-enough lens to compensate for the exposure time...
I feel sorry for poor Amanda, its obvious that you your self are a ai person, after all just look at that face, no way that's natural...... hehe. Loved the image and it just shows what a great photographer you are. The canyon was spectacular!!
If your photo can fool Grok into believing it may be AI then good for you. It’s a beautiful seasonal image. AI is making too many people cynical and suspicious of photographers’ honesty and integrity.
The stitched pano feels like it's been sqweezed in from the sides, I think it's because there's too much greenery at the bottom (I know it's not because you're a proffessional - link in the description below) but it looks like it's been generativly filled.
Both sides of the photos look great, the pano... it is ok, I have been there and when there was no platform and so a bit biased that the pano doesn't look natural. But it is beautiful non the less.
So AI can't tell the difference between AI and good photography. So where does that leave good photographers? Unless you have proof of in-camera capture are you now shuffled over to the world of non-photographic 'art'. AI is not photography of course, it's more like bringing your imagination to life as you write sentences. Like illustrating a book. So again, where do we go from here, with good photographers needing to defend their work? There needs to be clear code describing how the image was created, either with words, or with a camera. Edit: you stated that most people have had no experience with those outdoor scenes, because it's too damn cold for them to experience what dedicated photographers see. So they assume the image must be 'fake' or AI. You know what this reminds me of, those people who've never been to the moon who think the landings were faked. Same brains at work there. Your panos are strikingly beautiful! Unique work captured from where thousands would have been limited to single captures.
After years of watching this channel, I find out that Fototripper( Gavin) is nothing more than an AI fabricated landscape avatar! Probably created by Micheal Shainblum and Blake Rudis. :)
It is very interesting about the strange views on post-processing. When one looks at the print of Moonrise over Hernandez by Ansel Adams and then looks at the original negative (raw file), one would also have guessed it was a fake photo. Adams was a brilliant printer and spend hours (sometimes days) getting the print to look the way that he wanted it to look. Boosting the blues is no different than dialing in more of one color with a color printer in the darkroom. AI is stupid if it makes a decision that something is Ai generated just because it is more blue than one might expect. That is the dumb thing about AI instead of human intelligence. I don't place much faith in any AI judgement on art. It is a beautiful shot. I would have preferred it a bit warmer rather than the cold blue hue. That is another thing AI can't grok: each human has their own perception as they look at a piece of art. Beautiful HUMAN photo even if not totally to MY taste. sorry as an fpv pilot, i was too awestruck by the drone shots to judge the best photo. loved them all.

Lovely shots Gavin. Are you conflicted with the metal viewing platform being in such a beautiful location?

Is it a single image or made up of multiple exposures and focus stacked? Cracking shot nonetheless
if you shoot at f16 does that mean you don't need to focus stack?
depends how close you are to the foregound, where you focus, the minimum focal distance of your lens etc.
@ so I need to find out what my minimum focal distance is from each of my lenses to let me know if I can shoot at f16 or not
I will be there this December, I hope to get something close to that.
