It's been great to watch the lead singer Su-metal develop as a frontwoman over the years.
They performed this song in late January 2020 at the 'LEGEND - METAL GALAXY' concert in Japan.
She didn't even need to say a word to generate a huge circle, just gesture with her finger. : )
Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. You have found your way to a real gem of a band and if you like a band that interacts with the crowd you have just found the masters. Their songs, the choreo pretty much everything they do is about getting the crowd involved so they pretty much become a part of the performance.
If you do ever get to see them live you will be at one of the very best concerts you'll ever go to. Every song of about 50 they have now is different. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but they will also mix in many other musical styles and genres, often when you least expect it. Some songs are good hard metal others lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. In some songs they will be at both ends of the metal to pop scale at the same time, but they make it work.
There are already some excellent suggestions for more songs for you to react to in the comments.
I'm happy to see you getting around to checking out some Babymetal. This was from the darkside period in Babymetal's history that was basically all of 2018. The band was formed in 2010 when the girls were between 10 and 12 years old, and originally there were three members. The lead singer Su-metal and two others who did backup singing and fired up the crowds, Yuimetal and Moametal. In 2018 Yuimetal had to leave the band for undisclosed health reasons, and only Su and Moa are considered to be Babymetal now. There are two additional dancers in this video, called Muscle Metal who performed with them throughout their 2018 world tour, as well as a few other backup dancers who performed at specific shows. Nowadays, there are three backup dancers, known as The Avengers, who take turns performing in the third spot where Yui used to be.
Babymetal was originally just an experiment to fuse J-Pop and metal together, now referred to as Kawaii (cute) Metal, when the girls were part of a larger Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. However their popularity exploded to the point where they became an independent group in 2012 and began world tours in 2014. Since then the group has released three studio albums, more than a dozen live concert DVD's, won numerous awards in different countries, and toured the world many times both solo and opening for bands like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Lady GaGa, and Metallica to name just a few.
They are supported live by a group of musicians called the Kami (God) Band, those are the ones you saw here playing the instruments here. They're basically a collection of the best session musicians Japan has to offer, which will be demonstrated in performances you'll see in future videos.
Looking forward to more reactions to them, but try to stick to live performances as that is where the group really shines. Even when they were young teens they commanded huge crowds better than some veteran bands can.

@@Nerdygirlblue - It's only all girl because Babymetal is only the girls. The band isn't part of Babymetal they are the Kami Band. They only play concerts. They all have their own bands and lots of other projects. The Kami Band is all guys.
The Kami Band isn't necessarily anybody in particular it's whoever is backing up Babymetal but there is a core group that has played nearly all of the concerts. Except for the first few appearances and the most recent world tour where they used an American Kami Band 'The Kami Band of the West'. And of course Mikio the guitarist has played much fewer Babymetal concerts since he passed away in early 2018. They did two songs in Japan as the finales of a two night show with both Kami Bands. So they had 8 people on stage with the girls. Two drummers and 6 guitarists.
@@Jordan-Ramses yeah. Many members of the Kami Band of the West are members of the Galactic Empire band & the drummer is Anthony Barone (previously part of Shadows of Intent band). But all members of the Kami Band, East & West, are masters of their art.

When Su-Metal asks for something, the crowd does it. Period. She has the ability to control crowds unlike anyone else I've ever seen.
Distortion is a pretty good song for an existing metal head to encounter Babymetal as it's a great example of their metal chops alongside the pretty cool outfits and stageshow they had at that time.

Hey Girl! I'm a big fan of your reactions, and I'm thrilled to see you discover Babymetal! You're about to get invaded by The One, the name given to BBM fans, and they'll fill you on all things BBM. I just want to say, you ain't seen nothin' yet lol. They have been around for ten years now, starting when they were but tweens as part of a fairly typical Japanese idol outfit called Sakura Gakuine (spelling!). One particularly creative producer for the group, the one they call Koba, a huge metal fan, decided to see what would happen if you combined the idol kawaii (cute) element and some of the best hard rock/heavy metal musicians and songwriters in the business. The rest, they say, is history.
They started with three in the group: Sumetal, the lead vocalist in front, Moametal, behind her here, and Yuimetal, who left the group for health reasons not long before this concert. In fact, this concert captures them at an odd time between losing Yui and then being augmented with replacement dancers in Yui's spot.
I will recommend you check out Road of Resistance Live next, or perhaps Headbanger live... just about anything live, as they are at their very best on stage. And it's all about the spectacle of course.

@@Nerdygirlblue No problem hehe. Oh, and I forgot to mention, they have a habit of sacrificing/crucifying Su onstage (well, they did it at several shows in the Yui days at least lol).
You can think of the kawaii/metal combination as being a bit like mixing sweet and savoury in a recipe. The presence of both enhances the flavour overall :-)

Whoever put that video of the Legend 1997 version needs to take it down or edit it, and for some reason it seems to be the one all the reactors are using at the moment.
Babymetal formed in 2010. Official members ... Suzuka Nakamoto alias Su-metal (for fans the metal goddess) Moa kikuchi alias Moametal and Yui Mizuno alias Yuimetal (at the end of 2017 Yuimetal retires and is replaced by three dancers called avengers who replace Yuimetal depending on the presentation). The band is called Kami Band (it translates as divine band or band of the gods)

In 2010 BM is presented for the first time in a center Commercial before about 150 people .... For 2013 at the closing of the legend tour they will appear before 10 thousand people .... For 2015 they close the Metal resistance tour at the Saitama Super Arena before 22thousand people .... Currently they are one of the few metal bands capable of filling the Tokyo Dome in a matter of hours they are considered the most important band of the last 10 years
Great reaction! Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance. Here is a little bit of BABYMETAL info...BABYMETAL has been melting faces for TEN years. Su, the lead singer, is currently 23 years old, while Moa and Yui are 21. Yes, they were very young when BABYMETAL was formed!
BABYMETAL have performed with, toured, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. Plus the 20+ awards they have been given. They have 45+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. 🦊🤘

Great first reaction & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。You are in UK, right? The relation between BABYMETAL and UK is very strong. In 2020 they performed 4 times in UK (London, Manchester, Cardiff and Glasgow) as opposed to only 2 times in Japan. Their activities have been worldwide since the appearance at 2014 Sonisphere and their concert at Wembley arena in 2016 was an epoch-making event which boosted them into a higher level. That is the reason why the girls call UK their "second home".
Now in 2021, they carefully restarted their activities and held 10 concerts here in Tokyo taking very strict countermeasures against infection. "Distortion" were performed in each show and once "wow wow wow oh" intro got started, the crowd started to get hyped. Me? Of course, I have got hyped anytime, but the mosh / circle pit was impossible. That was not because I am 65-year-old but the venue was all seater arena under the pandemic condition. Please explore BABYMETAL more.

There was one more Metal Princess YUIMETAL😍 😭Sadly she left the band by end of 2017 due to undisclosed health reasons and was officially announced the same in October 2018. This performance was in 2018, their dark side (YUIMETAL's leaving and death of lead guitarist Mikio😭 of their backing band known as KAMI Band🔥) From 2019, they introduced AVENGERS 😍 3 backup dancers who switch out in rotation for Yui's spot. There're lots and lots of things to learn about them. We'll (The ONE) tell you all the info about them in each of your BABYMETAL reaction videos. Deep Love and Deep Respect for BABYMETAL ❤️ You'll come to know that if you react more, there're many many things that happened in these 10 years.
