I remember my dad taking us to see ESB after it was released in May 1980. He had NO idea that it was going to be a bigger phenomenon than SW, so he bundled us up into the car and drove to the theatre. LOOOOOOOONG lines is an understatement! We took our place in line, while he inquired about the wait time: 3 HOURS! "Go or stay?" he asked 11, 9, and 6-year old kids. STAY! No running around. No fighting. Just sitting there and patiently waiting for our turn. And what a payoff it was! I will never ever forget that moment of sitting and watching one of the BEST movies ever put to celluloid! My generation was blessed!
Empire Strikes Back still my own personal favourite of all the Star Wars films! Watched it again just recently and it's always a thrill to watch! Long live Empire! 🙂
Those long lines were actually artificially created by the studio (and I stood in them twice as a teenager). They would limit the number of cinemas with prints in each town, causing the lines and creating a dramatic visual advertisement for the film.
Yes,she is very much missed,as is Peter Mayhew,David Prowse and Jeremy Bulloch but the fact that The Empire Strikes Back is still very much hailed as the greatest film of the entire series, attests Greatley to its magic and enduring appeal! Long live The Empire Strikes Back and it's stars that have so sadly departed but left us with some wonderful, everlasting memories! 🙂
Always makes me sad. And angry. They had them all. They we’re right there for the beginning of the final tilogy! And they pissed away their opportunity to give them the hero’s send off they all deserved. I’ll NEVER forgive them for it! EVER!

I swear, at five-foot-one, Carrie stole every scene she was in. Just one of a kind. On another note, is there anything more epic than Mark Hamill going through his Jedi fencing training in bellbottoms...
No. No, there isn't, and I'm mad how attracted I am to it. And I also want to undergo Jedi training in bellbottoms. Hmm. And yes Carrie is a scene stealer... heart stealer... but it's well-established so I won't go on. 😌
Lando betrayed our friends. And yet, we forgave him and made him part of the family. THAT is not only good story writing, but excellent acting as well.
@@Attackontitanfan143 I agree with you. Even when I was 7 years old, I never thought about what happened as a betrayal. He had no choice, he was responsible of the entire city, so of course he chose to protect his people. But he did his best to rescue Leia, and as soon as he had the opportunity, he helped to rescue Han and participated in the final battle.

That seems so odd now with hindsight but maybe that was the trend with movie sequels up until that point? Although things like The Magnificent Seven and James Bond and other famous movie series’s surely should’ve promised something more interesting than just a rehash of Star Wars.
she was drug addict and alcoholic. She was probably frustrated to become Leia for people in real life and she never managed to exist with her real name.
Yeah, with new rubbish scenes added from George Lucas himself. Sadly the original movies are not available on Blueray or UHD, they only exist in bad quality like VHS or Laserdisc. :-/
@@pissed555 It's sad but true. The original versions from 1977, 1979 and 1983 were never released on a "modern" medium. Even the releases on DVD were just copys of the laserdisc-releases with quite bad visual quality. Nowadays you only get the "new" versions with all those stupid, unnecessary scenes and changes that George Lucas did implement over time. Such a pity! :-/
@@Trond_Razor That is sad news indeed. But I don´t know if I have seen the new versions or not, so I can´t say if I like it or not...but I rather like to have the ones that I saw as a kid. So true. I/II/III were terrible and insipid. VII/VIII/IX were an improvement, but only by being less terrible/insipid. But it doesn't matter. We'll always have IV/V/VI. _Except_ will we? Lucas disastrously re-edited them once (adding hokey scenes, adding previously cut scenes like CGI Jabba the Hutt); I guess Disney won't re-re-edit them, will they?
It always pains me to see the sequel trilogy and wonder where the hell it went wrong... and I remember it was when George sold the franchise to Disney who proceeded to ignore all his ideas.
The feeling I first got at the end of this film was like nothing I'd ever felt again... It even still gets me emotional, all these years later. The cliff hanger, the view from space, the music... Truly awe inspiring
Imagine a time when you had to wait three years to find out if they were ok? Doesn't happen today. Let's face it, we all knew the Marvel characters would be fine. Even Iron Man had about nine lives. Only surprise is he finally died and still wouldn't surprise me if they revive him.

I definitely do - so much iconic music, and the final music just before it fires into the end credits (Luke and Leia watching the Falcon fly off in search of Han) sends chills down my spine to this day. Just watching this brought a lump to my throat. Only real movie making still does that to you 40 years later (and I'm sure for many more years to come).
Best of all the Star Wars films. Mark Hamill at the end of the video... "It was so daring, I don't think that we were able to be that surprising again because it was deeper, it was more cerebral, it was more spiritual." "The fact that we faced defeat at the end." Hits the nail on the head.
The first trilogy of Star Wars films that came out between the late 1970s and the early 1980s _New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return Of The Jedi, are still very fascinating and very charming today.
@@timothypearson6101 No. there are only three Star Wars movies: A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi. If anyone says there are more Star Wars movies or there is a fourth Indiana Jones movie then just bonk them on the head.
Knowing now that Ford and Fisher had been involved in a torrid affair, their characters' relationship in this movie takes on a whole new meaning. The on-screen chemistry was definitely not just acting.
Just seeing this after avoiding star wars for so long because of the Disney sequels. It just amazes me how beautiful, great, and pure these films were compared to the hollow empty shells that came afterwards. Just think if Disney had taken the time, the passion, and really made a spiritual successor to these films.... it would have been so different.
But they knew that they didn't need good stories to sell a movie with a Star Wars name. They could have just had the title sequence followed by two hours of trash and they'd fill theaters.
@@janbaer3241 I wish it were only that. Unfortunately I believe it was a concerted effort to destroy the old characters (deliberately punishing old fans) and at the same time push certain agendas (to teach those same old fans a lesson and show who is in power now). It makes no sense from a business point of view. No matter how much the Disney movies made they could have made much more if they had made movies in the vein of the originals as far as character development and story richness; but as we've seen repeatedly, Hollywood often chooses to push their narrative rather than create worthy film art.
I had fallen out of admiration for the whole Star Wars series pretty much after the third one, although I've watched every film. They just had so many holes in the plot, which was thin to begin with. But I have to admit I did enjoy the Mandalorian, and after watching two episodes of Obi Wan I feel like some decent story telling has returned.
I was there when this film was first shown in the theaters in 1980. To this day, still one of the most iconic films of my generation , in my opinion . None of the other episodes made after this came close . The absolute best episode hands down. Hard to believe it's been 41 years now.
I saw ESB when I was 6 years old and it may as well have been real life as far as I was concerned. I had been terrified of Vader as an even younger child for episode 4, but to experience all these movies as an impressionable child is a gift I wish every child could experience. Growing up I never considered them 3 separate movies and to this day I don't. To me it was always one story and stood above all other movies single or multiple in nature.
Just hearing the music brings me shiver over my hole body. Don`t know how my parents got me into this german theater at the age of 7 back in december 1980. But they did and it blew my mind for years.

Disney ruined the opportunity of having the greatest reunion scene in cinema history, Just imagine Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Lando, R2D2 n C3PO in one frame reuniting on screen after 35 years...
Disney never understood Star Wars. They never got the soul and spirit of it correct. They hired people that didn't appreciate it the way the fans did. It will forever be one of the biggest failures in movie history. Disney could not have failed more epically.
You nailed it - what I like about the OT is that it's about hope, optimism and joy that rounds up the whole saga 1-6. The medal awarding scene in EP IV and the big celebration in VI may seem naive (some even say it's cringey) nowadays but that's why the OT attracted so many people worldwide from all walks of life. It appeals to our inner child and our hope that everything will turn out fine.
Carrie fisher stood toe to toe with the boys and she never needed to pretend she wasn't who she was. She was feminine, powerful, kind, nurturing, intelligent and courageous. This is something Disney could never comprehend. Disney ruined what should have been a layup of a continuation of a marvelous adventure.
Totally so. The woke people don't understand that women are never same as men, and their strength and power comes with different ways than how it comes from men. It is like Yin Yang, both have tiny part from a another, but they together complete each other, by being different. Carrie Fisher made big impact how to be a hero without trying to be something that men are, in a way that no other women seems to be incapable to repeat anymore.
"Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is the most feminist film of the entire Star Wars franchise" (Kathleen Kennedy -- though every time you see that line it's preceded by "the critics say", even though it's just a Disney marketing opinion). And what we got was "Maintain the tight formation", impulsive stupid reaction, fumbling and bumbling women... When was the last time you saw (pre-TLJ) Leia accidentally dropping important stuff in a life-and-death situation? Did she ever say stupid things like "maintain that tight formation"? Did she ever do stupid things, impulsive, on a whim (except, maybe, kissing Han Solo, but even that was not really that impulsive? And what is it that TLJ want's to tell us? Leia wasn't feminist because she didn't do dumb things? Maybe we should invent a new word...."Disney feminism". I guess Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson just wanted to destroy feminism, once and for all. Oh well, I guess I could look up *Hanlon's razor* in Wikipedia, but I'm too stupid for that.
They were all so young and this video just reminds us that life is so much shorter than you think it is. It seems like we go from being these young, healthy twenty-something kids to an elderly person in no time at all. You get old SO fast and it seems like the 1970's was a mere decade ago.
I agree. I was a kid when they came out, so I'm not too far behind in the aging process. I didn't have the greatest of childhoods. Star Wars is definitely one of the highlights of my younger years. When I first saw Star Wars I remember thinking two things. 1, anything is possible. And 2, Carrie Fisher is the most beautiful human being I've ever seen in my life. Both are still true over 40 years later.
@@jm7804 Ask anyone in their 40s on up they'll tell you the same thing, that it feels like life goes by faster and faster the more you age. It was so great and feel privileged growing up in the 80s with Star Wars and so many other absolutely awesome movies. Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Top Gun, Terminator, Goonies, you name it. Some of the greatest creations in movie’s history. My kids born in the 2000s watched all of them and love it too.
When I was a child I saw a double bill of Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back. It totally blew me away. It wasn't spoilt by Social Media or trailers that gave the whole story away.
I go back and forth between Empire and Star Wars. The first film is a perfectly paced, completely satisfying and self contained film. Empire exceeds it in terms of effects, narrative and a more “adult” feel but also has that cliffhanger and the fact that it’s 2 hours of seeing our heroes getting their asses kicked.
@@sdfried4877 I think the three original movies are very good in the narrative.. have good acting and amazing effects for their time.. however the first one is very rough in the details... and Return of the Jedi's mayor flaw is the ewoks sequence which makes it too childish and ruins it for me... It's the same mistake Lucas did with the Phantom Menace you know.. with the damn gungans and the stupid jar jar...
@@amrx76 I outlined my issues with ROTJ elsewhere. The Jabba sequence took a whole 30 minutes and it’s only after that the movie actually starts. Ewoks were silly. Hammill, whose acting had improved in Empire was wildly overacting and making mystical eyes all the time. The scene with Luke and Leah in the Ewok village is just awful. And Han Solo had been reduced to a very weak G rated character. Still there’s a lot of good stuff in the movie.
Carrie could be graceful, bitchy, beautiful, tender. She didn’t have that many lines but pulled it off magically. There is a lot of Carrie in the princess. As I look back, am wondering if she should have won an academy award for best supporting actress. At the time, they didn’t take sci-if movies seriously in the academy. When you can carry the hopes and fears (and lust) of a generation from just a few lines, it would seem the apex of what an actor is trying to accomplish.
@Rouge I’m saying she has to share the screen with 6 other major characters including an academy award winner. I wasn’t aware of articles. Just my opinion.
Still one of the best movies ever made. “The Empire Strikes Back” represents, for at me at least, cinematic bliss, the anticipation, the feeling of adventure and the pure joy of seeing it. This is what moviemaking at its best should be, look and sound like! Seeing this rare behind the scenes footage brings back good memories. Carry Fisher will always be terribly missed! PS The only other “Star Wars” movie that is on par with “The Empire Strikes Back”, for me, is “Rogue One” 👍👍
I've seen other Star Wars fans argue that Rogue One was a terrible movie or something, mainly due to the lead character being cardboard. But I don't agree. It was a very good movie and filled in some gaps between A New Hope and RotS. And as a Star Wars fan, I don't know how anyone could not totally love the ending with Vader going full Sith Lord and the shot of Leia getting the DS plans (even if the CG was wonky). I'll still say RotJ is my all-time favorite of the movies, since that was the first one I got to see in theaters as a kid when it came out. I was too young to see the previous two. That's more nostalgia though, as I can recognize that The Empire Strikes Back is technically a better movie than any other Star Wars movie ever made.
@@Kelnx Empire: Luke loses hand finds out about vader is his old man Luke starts jedi training han frozen in carbonite, Han and Liea have their moment, 3po get shafted, r2drags 3po around and I luaugh EVERY time! Rogue one: Sifu Donnie Yen. Job done. Yet Empire is and always be the gratest movie in cinema history.
Still the best Star Wars movie I think. It just took chances, surprised the audience and didnt follow the expected formula. Imagine, the good guys losing for a change. Yoda was magical, Vader and Luke's story became much more complex and Star Wars had a bright future after that.
I remember how loud the movie crowed cheer when each of these characters appeared on screen when the projector rolled. Unbelievable, as if we were in a Broadway play waiting for each actor to bow for us as they made their intro.
Empire was the best of the bunch. Looking back I'm glad Disney didn't reunite the actors. Forever after they will only have this masterpiece as their time on screen together.... untouched and unsullied. RIP to the all the creative staff that made this magic in the 80s. What a magical time it was.
the offensive thing is not that they didn't reunite them, it's that they didn't care to make a good continuation. now, whether or not Lucas's original plans for the sequels would've been a worthy follow-up, we'll never know. but the truth of the matter remains the same, they showed little to no care in the making of the new trilogy, sidelining the original characters that everyone wanted to see again in favour of newer protagonists wrapped up in an inferior version of what came before. the least they could've done was showing the group together one last time, instead the story begins with everyone separated for stupid reasons, undoing the development these characters got in the original trilogy.
Empire is in my Top 5 movies of all time. A masterpiece to start off the greatest decade of them all: the 1980s. The music in the Star Wars films (like at the end of this clip) still gives me chills to this day.
Reminds me that despite Lando only appearing near the end of the second movie he’s already established by the beginning of Jedi as an established character. Great writing and great acting to make that believable with so little time to work with.
We waited a long time for this episode. Opening day I pulled the boys out of school " you have been to the dentist" and along with my own princess we made our way to the old University theatre in Toronto along with 1500 other students that had taken the day off. Wonderful memories.
Those were the days to be a Star Wars fan. It’s true what they say; it’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but that first trilogy was indeed lightning in a bottle. When it was gone, it was gone.
@@jlomesou Yeah but wasn’t the three year wait for ROTJ heavy torture? I mean ESB (even though the greatest) basically ends on a cliffhanger and no resolution. I would’ve hated it back then.
Didn’t you hate that you’d have to wait for three years for ROTJ, cause ESB (even though the greatest) had a very high climax and cliffhanger ending with no resolution. The whole chapter of Darth Vader being Luke’s father just opens up and then the movie ends. What did your friends feel? How did everyone react to Vader being Luke’s father? Was anyone upset that the wait would have to be three years for the next film. And what I really really want to know is, how did the grownups react? We’re they also absorbed and taken into the movie. I keep hearing from people who were teens at the time, but I want to know the grownup reaction.

little did they know they were about to make one of the greatest films of all time. it amazes me how many people worked on this and put their heart in it. the practical effects, the story, they all did that years before a lot of us were even born
@@futuristica1710 I suppose, yes, the excrement that Hollywood vomits onto the big screen technically counts as a movie. Perhaps the OP should have said "movies worth watching".
@@Elfenlied8675309 First, account for inflation and that disappears in a hurry. Second, I didn't say anything about people not paying for them. Movies these days are typically either heavily laden with special effects and they basically just hit you with CGI for 2 hours, or they're heavily political and they just hit you with messaging, and people go to see it to get their confirmation biases fed. IMO movies are supposed to be about story-telling. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to a theatre and gave a damn about anyone on the screen. They're supposed to get the audience emotionally invested in the story and they don't, they just throw shallow stuff with no substance on the screen for 2 hours and hope you'll keep buying tickets. Which I don't anymore.
Empire was the sequel we wanted so badly and somehow it topped every expectation we could have. There's a few great sequels out there but none that level for me.
1980-82 was my sweet spot for movies. I was 8. I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, and E.T. A VERY special time for cinemas and families.
Thing about this, this was all cutting edge technology. They were doing things never done before and in most cases they had to invent and create the mechanics to do what they were doing. It was mind boggling impressive to see these images at the time.
Not so, that's a prejudiced and/or bias point of view, taught at many film schools just to spite G Lucas and the stupid masses can't use their own brains so they follow. ALL THREE are as equally good.
None will ever match episode IV, but dang when Empire Strikes Back came out was it a sight to see on the big screen. especially as a young kid (7-10 years old) -- more so than the teenagers, 20 years olds, or older adults who were all loving it too. All your favorite characters coming to life again, the battles and the conflict on a much larger scale than Star Wars. All the familiar characters, that by then, if you were under 10, you had most of them as toy action figures-- where Skywalker, Solo, Leia, Vader were now common household names and larger than life, and you were about to be see them again, for real, after a 3 long-years wait. AND on a ginormous 70mm screen, and need I say, arguably the best script of all of the movies. Even the red velvet carpet and the smell of popcorn as you meandered through the noise and excitement in the lobby and moved towards the quiet corridor and into the darkness of the theater where the experience awaited. That opening orchestrated crash and Star Wars graphic over a dark space backdrop, that at that moment, you didn't know would be a reoccurring thing until it hit you and all your senses. Those were the TRUE, REAL cheers of a fandom in its infancy, for something that would to this day, 40 years later, still holding the test of time with new generations taken by it. Everyone new generation should experience it in a theater. Those were good times. They don't make movies quite the same. At least not in the last 15-20 years. The Hollywood studios productions are all loaded with their political agendas and indoctrination flicks. Sad. Pathetic. and sad.
My first time seeing "Empire" was at the Air Force Base theatre in Turkey, while my dad was stationed there. (1980, when the film came out) Nice video, I've never seen most of those deleted scenes.
My first time seeing ESB ... I saw a guy save another guy from the cold and use a lightsaber to cut open the guts of a Ton-Ton ... then the camera jammed up, paused, the film snapped, and a cinema employee asked everyone to please be patient while waiting in the refund lineup at ticket counter. It wasn't the best introduction to Star Wars or the best lasting image for a child to walk away from, lol.
Yeah! I wonder why we all love this one more than the others? Perhaps it is because of the ''I am your father...'' shocking revelation at the end, or the introduction of the badass Boba Fett villain :D :D
@@worldatmyfingertips7771 i think for alot of ppl i think its the fact that its just a very solidly made film. The story...the characters...the effects. Its not just a good "Star Wars" movie....its a good movie, period. The same cant be said for some of the other fan favs. You have to appreciate SW in general to get into them. Not the case with Empire.
@@razorfett147 yeah definitely! It is a movie that anybody can enjoy, the love story between Han and Leia goes so well with the shocking way they both part ways, and again, Darth Vader's MOST unexpected plot twist at the end, (certainly one of the best plot twists in movie history) I think all the characters in that movie combined with the spectacular acting makes them really leave a huge mark in movie history, makes you really wanna know what happens next. Today they only invest in what catches people's attention only, they no longer care about quality in the story, just about quantity of people who goes to see their films. Frankly, I believe this is the substance that's missing in the new line up of, now Disney, Star Wars heroes and villains, they really really need to make us believe in those characters, got HUGE shoes to fill....as a big SW fans I might add I am kind of partial to Rey, I kind of liked the ending of TROS, no matter how weird the story is getting, I have hopes the SW universe will continue to expand in a good way.....😃
@@worldatmyfingertips7771 The problem I've got with the end of TROS is that Leia tells Rey not to be afraid of who she is (Something along those lines) then at the end she's still afraid of who she is and claims that she is a Skywalker.
I remember when this came out. I was 8. It was SOOOO inspirational, chilling, wonderful & awesome. I remember leaving the theater JUST `vibrating`. It was such a motivating experience. And Hamill is correct: We didn't expect THAT at all.
Millions of kids fell in love with Leia and the rest of the characters back in the day and even today with new generations they still do, at home we are two generations of Star Wars fans me and my kids, damn proud of it !!
I love Mark's comments, this was a movie where they were losing and regrouping and that was such a unique difference from the first...It was a complicated movie...a struggle. They were being hunted and barely escaped with their lives. It brought the characters together in a way few sequels ever can.
When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️
I loved the Empire Strikes Back!! Hands down the best SW film of all. I still get emotionally invested in that story after seeing a hundred times or more
First time I've heard Anthony Daniels speak (outside of being in character as 3P-0. He doesn't sound much different at all. The original trilogy was and still is such a gem. Thank you George!

Rest in peace Carrie. Gone but never forgotten.
Amen to that
To me, she’s Royalty.
Legend RIP
Amen. Carrie, you are greatly missed.
She's not gone. She just became more powerful than you could possibly imagine.
who else gets chills when they hear the music for empire strikes back
I definitely do - so much iconic music, and the final music just before it fires into the end credits (Luke and Leia watching the Falcon fly off in search of Han) sends chills down my spine to this day. Just watching this brought a lump to my throat. Only real movie making still does that to you 40 years later (and I'm sure for many more years to come).
Everyone who was a Star Wars fan in the '90s
@@NavDDG54 I was a fan in the 70s. :o)
I have the soundtrack and it’s a gem!
I still remember the feeling the music gave me as a kid. Loved ESB as a kid but appreciated it's storytelling more when I got older.
Princess Leia.
What can I say...?
So charming. So beautiful. So powerful.
So long ago...
RIP Carrie Fisher
She was so beautiful in this.
Amen
And how it feels like it was yesterday :(
This is my all-time favorite movie. i’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched it, and I never grow tired of watching it again.
Best of all the Star Wars films. Mark Hamill at the end of the video... "It was so daring, I don't think that we were able to be that surprising again because it was deeper, it was more cerebral, it was more spiritual." "The fact that we faced defeat at the end." Hits the nail on the head.
Today 4 years ago: In Loving Memory of our Princess "Carrie Fisher"
Amen. One of my first crushes. I was enamored by her. So beautiful ❤️
Omg time flies. She is still timeless in these movies and lives through them forever. Miss ya Princess.
A princess; a general; a timeless icon.
Wow, it's been a long time but it doesn't feel like it.
:(
The first trilogy of Star Wars films that came out between the late 1970s and the early 1980s _New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Return Of The Jedi, are still very fascinating and very charming today.
Instant Classics!❤️
The original real star wars movies. The prequels were bad in comparison and the sequel travesties don't even deserve the name of Star Wars
You’re stating is as if we don’t know the years in which these movies were released.
There are other Star Wars movies?
@@timothypearson6101 No. there are only three Star Wars movies:
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi.
If anyone says there are more Star Wars movies or there is a fourth Indiana Jones movie then just bonk them on the head.
The Empire Strikes back was a brilliant film in story, character development, action and drama, and even visually stunning
Best comment
Completely with you! Agree so much
I had fallen out of admiration for the whole Star Wars series pretty much after the third one, although I've watched every film.
Can confirm, the Disney Trilogy is a soft reboot instead of actual sequels
Just hearing the music brings me shiver over my hole body. Don`t know how my parents got me into this german theater at the age of 7 back in december 1980. But they did and it blew my mind for years.
Carrie Fisher was so cute... so gorgeous. ❤️😔

You're right 😭
Disney never understood Star Wars.
@@toosly5637 until Jon Favreau entered the picture. He gets it and that’s why the Mandalorian is the best thing since ESB.
@@Sarge51BG Yeah the first season. Season 2 was a shitshow of fan service. "Ooooh remember this character? You like them right?"
Time seems to be speeding up! I keep thinking I can do active young people activities... and then find out it hurts more now.
@@jm7804 Ask anyone in their 40s on up they'll tell you the same thing, that it feels like life goes by faster and faster the more you age. I'm in my 60s now and I remember seeing Star Wars when it came out in 1977 and was amazed by it and when I hit my 40s it dawned on me just how much faster the years seemed to be going by.

Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Top Gun, Terminator, Goonies, you name it. Some of the greatest creations in movie’s history. My kids born in the 2000s watched all of them and love it too.
many of those had their music done by John Williams
I'm happy I was raised on these movies
The Goonies is my childhood
& That's why the 80's will be the greatest decade ever. No era has matched it yet.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I've been looking up to the skies at night, ever since.
When I was a child I saw a double bill of Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back. It totally blew me away. It wasn't spoilt by Social Media or trailers that gave the whole story away.
Carrie truly was the Princess of our generation.
Amazing how much better it looks using real sets instead of cgi, and it gives the actors something to act off.
All the Hoth scenes are engraved in my memory. They really raised the bar with that opening.
We're fortunate that Carrie Fishers smile has been captured for eternity.
Saw it summer 1980 at the age of 12, I've been into sci-fi for ever since thanks to this movie. A true classic.
And the soundtrack, gosh, so magical.
These scenes still give me chils. For me, it's still the finest in the whole series.
I totally forgot just how rich in personality and character the original Star Wars personages were. Truly amazing.
After all of the things that happened so far, you can now really appreciate why this is the best Star Wars movie ever made.
Which makes me wish they could still be able to do this, they just have to be ok with taking risk in storytelling which they won't.
@@sdfried4877 well I certainly can overlook the bad acting of Hammil after watching Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman in the prequels.. LoL
Wow, Carrie looks so hot in that Rebel Hoth hat on.
She looked super cute. I wish she had worn it in the film.
2:27 that wink tho
Carrie could be graceful, bitchy, beautiful, tender. She didn’t have that many lines but pulled it off magically. There is a lot of Carrie in the princess. As I look back, am wondering if she should have won an academy award for best supporting actress. At the time, they didn’t take sci-if movies seriously in the academy. When you can carry the hopes and fears (and lust) of a generation from just a few lines, it would seem the apex of what an actor is trying to accomplish.
@@dq1275 thats why Oscar is overrated SW is the best movie of all time with JP Terminator BTTF and a few more
@Rouge I’m saying she has to share the screen with 6 other major characters including an academy award winner.
A New Hope, Revenge Of The Sith and Rogue One are my favorites next to Empire Strikes Back
I've seen other Star Wars fans argue that Rogue One was a terrible movie or something, mainly due to the lead character being cardboard.
I saw the original release of it.
So true! Definitely Empire and Rogue One...
The actors had such great chemistry in the scenes and behind the scenes
Still the best Star Wars movie I think. It just took chances, surprised the audience and didnt follow the expected formula. Imagine, the good guys losing for a change. Yoda was magical, Vader and Luke's story became much more complex and Star Wars had a bright future after that.
I agree on all points. And the toys were cool too.
I remember seeing the empire as a 9 years old child at the cinema in Athens Greece .... what a great experience
Watched it as a kid of 11 years in Honolulu, Hawaii...Cinerama Theaters.
Lucas was surprised how well Fisher and Ford handled the love scenes.
Did Lucas even pay attention 😂?
Wdym? Does Lucas have any bad love scenes?
Well, she was with Paul Simon at the time...
@@gabrielberrios1306 Lucas did about no participation on TESB.. That's what he meant.
He was sitting his lard ass at the Skywalker Ranch.
No wonder this Star Wars was the best.
Irvin Kershner was directing.
I remember how loud the movie crowed cheer when each of these characters appeared on screen when the projector rolled. Unbelievable, as if we were in a Broadway play waiting for each actor to bow for us as they made their intro.
Carrie getting her Star on May 4th, will be super emotional.
3:26 when Harrison plays with Carrie’s hair and she says “see what happens?!” 🤷🏻♀️ So cute! 😂
Who knew, back then that Star Wars would never be that good, again
Empire was the best of the bunch. Looking back I'm glad Disney didn't reunite the actors. Forever after they will only have this masterpiece as their time on screen together.... untouched and unsullied. RIP to the all the creative staff that made this magic in the 80s. What a magical time it was.
the offensive thing is not that they didn't reunite them, it's that they didn't care to make a good continuation. now, whether or not Lucas's original plans for the sequels would've been a worthy follow-up, we'll never know. but the truth of the matter remains the same, they showed little to no care in the making of the new trilogy, sidelining the original characters that everyone wanted to see again in favour of newer protagonists wrapped up in an inferior version of what came before. the least they could've done was showing the group together one last time, instead the story begins with everyone separated for stupid reasons, undoing the development these characters got in the original trilogy.
when i was a child this was my favorite movie. my mother took me 17 times to see Empire. and each time Carrie/Leia got more and more majestic...
Not only the best Star Wars movies, one of the best movies ever.
Empire is the gem in the Star Wars crown.
Delightful collection, I'm so glad I've gotten to see this.
So it wasn't really filmed in outer space?
Empire is in my Top 5 movies of all time. A masterpiece to start off the greatest decade of them all: the 1980s. The music in the Star Wars films (like at the end of this clip) still gives me chills to this day.
Can we appreciate the lighting of the scenes in the duel and revelation scenes? beautiful and fantastic, and not done in post production!
Was it a Rebel Dentist or an Imperial?
Those were the days to be a Star Wars fan. It’s true what they say; it’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but that first trilogy was indeed lightning in a bottle. When it was gone, it was gone.
@@LRTrack unfortunately the next day number two son let the cat out of the bag at school. It was a good job the teacher was a rebel sympathizer :o)
I can't imagine Star Wars without Mark as Luke, Carrie as Leia, and Harrison as Han. The casting was perfect.
"It wasn' just a carbon copy of Star Wars"
Jar-Jar Abrams: "And I took that personally"
Not only the best movie ever made but 100% the best sequel ever made.
Nah Return of the Jedi is better. Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi and A New Hope are like the god tier of Star Wars media.
Carrie always somehow strikes such an incredible balance of silly, beautiful, and totally stern
Everyone's here for Carrie...
Carrie was literally the girl that everyone falls in love with and is so envious of the dog in her life cause she ain't got no man lol
Yeah u boomers have terrible taste in women

little did they know they were about to make one of the greatest films of all time. it amazes me how many people worked on this and put their heart in it. the practical effects, the story, they all did that years before a lot of us were even born
The good old days...when people made movies!
They make great films today.
@@futuristica1710 They make crap today!
@@futuristica1710 I suppose, yes, the excrement that Hollywood vomits onto the big screen technically counts as a movie. Perhaps the OP should have said "movies worth watching".
@@st.jimmy0244 If you count movies by box office success we've had more successful and well received films in the last 20 years than the last 100.
Agreed
Gary Kurtz (RIP) was the real genius behind the success of the first two star wars and once he left it went straight down..
Thing about this, this was all cutting edge technology. They were doing things never done before and in most cases they had to invent and create the mechanics to do what they were doing. It was mind boggling impressive to see these images at the time.
The high point of the entire SW saga!
