- The Tanque Argentino Mediano, or simply the TAM. It’s not as well-known to military vehicles enthusiasts as the Abrams, the T-34 or the Panther, but for the people of Argentina, this tank is certainly a legend. A unique combat vehicle that is used only by the Argentine army.

I'm from Argentina and I've been playing the game since 2015, it made me super happy to see the TAM being added to the game and I couldn't have asked for a better representation of it. The only other argentine tank I would personally love seeing added to the game is the Nahuel DL-43 which was a valiant effort to make a decent national tank in the 40s

Im from Argentina, and in the past I served in the Argentine army. I have seen the combat doctrine with this tank, and when I play with a friend who is also former military, when using those combat tactics we feels like a walk in the park. And inside this video game I see how that many players have excellent results with combat styles similar to what is taught in the army

I would love to see the Nahuel, the Pulqui 1 and Pulqui 2, the Pucara... would be interesting to have an Argentina/Brazil tech tree (at least).
I would also love to see the Nahuel, but it'd be hard to balance, its gun is a howitzer; aka, horrendous, but the armor is 80mm + ANGLED at the front, basically indestructible for a BR where the gun would be able to do anything
@@theoneandonlyartyom I don't see an issue balancing the Nahuel, or any other vehicle, regardless of BR assigned to it... Gaijin can always do a BR change depending on usage data.
I think an entire tree for South America, could have many different tanks/planes. Even though I personally am sticking with Sweden it would still be cool!

@@theoneandonlyartyom There is a chance to have and available HEAT for the Nahuel gun (must research more). But still it surely had solid AP and HE as main projectiles.
Love the TAM's in WT. Great little tanks. Mobile, hard hitting, and just plain fun.
Argentinian Army really made good use of that tank. On other RUclips videos were many of them are old documentary from Argentina. You can see they have so many variants of this tank. Even rocket launcher, ambulance, and more.
I'll add a fun note. In the early 1990s several middle East countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Peru wanted to buy the TAM. Peru even tested them.
A possible order for over 1200 tanks could have been placed to the middle east. The US wanted to sell their Patton's and stop a new tank producer out in the market. So they pressured and threatened Germany to stop it. The Germans couldn't stop the Argentines selling the tank because it was a design owned by the Army. So they restricted the re export of the MTU engines and the PERI sights. The contracts fell in middle east and Peru kept using their T-55 instead of buying TAMs. Argentina would have send the on production for the Army tanks to Peru and increase production so the army needs would be pushed back.
Ukraine was to be involved in modernizing Peru's T55s but they are kind of busy atm.
Another fun fact, they used that opportunity to sell the Abrams to more countries as well.
Were there any French or Italian engines as an alternative to the MTU ?
I like the look and versatility of the TAM platform, too bad it was cut short of its potential.
@@scratchy996 the power pack of late cold war and modern tanks are integrated with the transmission so they can be unhooked and swapped quickly with a few tools and an engine crane. Germans have the best ones and as it a marder based tank it was designed to house the MTU pack. I doubt it would be easy to replace it as none of them had multifuel engines of that power output on that size. Still they would have needed to create a new transmission to fit on the drivetrain of the TAM. And replace the FCS of the tank too.
@@scratchy996yes, its possible to change the MTU engine and the Renk transmission for a FIAT/EZ pack (made in Argentina) directly. That was analyzed during in the design and tested in the 90'
The TAM entered combat during the "alsamiento de carapintadas" and "toma de la tablada" it was mostly counter insurgency combat against rebels seizing barracks

Perdona pero estas equivocado, en el levantamiento de los Caras Pintadas no se utilizaron blindados, el armamento mas pesado que participo fue la ametralladora MAC que era usada por los mismos Caras Pintadas que tomaron el edificio de la aduana en la Av. Paseo Colón y se enfrentaron con efectivos de la Policia Federal y en la toma d la Tablada solo paticiparon los Curassiers austriacos y los M-15 franceses. El TAM aun no participo de ningún enfrentamiento armado real.
Honestly the TAM 2IP, I think is very under rated - great light tank, aggressor and is undervalued because of its lack of thermals, but by using it correctly, receiving kills, it almost makes a great progressing step to top tier as you will not solely rely on thermals

Best of all, its a tank made from national industry, its ours, and that is a pride that not many can boast since many latin american countries buy foreign tanks because they never researched or just didnt want to research about tanks, it is uncommon for a country that is not an economic power to have its own tank of national industry, but we managed and its quite good.
PE: Im actually a soldier training for officer in the Argentinian Army, and choose Cavalry, I got the chance to be part of a tank crew and it is awesome.
It would be nice if the video showed all the TAM family and variants like the TAM VCTP, TAM Palmaria (a much heavier mobile artillery tank) etc, TAM is a very versatile invention with many variants.

And the legendary Super Etendard (not Argentine but is a legendary plane)
PS: TAM and the TAM VCTP faced some combats such as:
-Attack on La Tablada Barracks (1989)
-Carapintada Uprising in Boulogne (1990)
-Croatian War for Independence (Part of Yugoslav Wars - VCTP was used, part of the UN Peacekeepers)

Yep, we, Brazilians, we were at mercy of a better armed vehicle for almost three decades from Argentina. When I was in the military, we had nothing to stop it.
As an Argentine that had the opportunity of seeing various TAM's in person during a parade I can confirm that these vehicles are beautiful to see IRL.

They actually saw some action. First in 1989 in the battle of Tablada. And in early/mid 90s in Balkan war. Not only TAMs but also VCTP (infantry fighting vehicle) and 155 mm argentinian made howitzers as part of the peace force

In the real life, some TAM’s drivers push the tank at the top speed of 100-105 km/h. The TAM “family “ includes a TAM MLRS, a self- propelled artillery howitzer ( Palmaria), an ammunition vehicle, recovery tank and the well known IFV. That’s an excellent way to optimise the logistics in combat: made in Argentina 🇦🇷

not only bridges. terrain, in some places need light tanks in argentina. heavier tanks couldnt operate in many places. particularly in the south. thats the reason why for example. nor england neither argentina landed tanks in Malvinas/Falklands war.

Del IP nada, no se le va a agregar blindaje de ningun tipo. Es actualización de sistemas, y planta de energía adicional. El nuevos sitema de tiro israelí va a ser increible. Un verdadero sniper.

I speak to you from Argentina.
I think that as a medium-term project, it would be a very good idea to add to the game an Argentine technology tree that is composed only of the air force and the army.
since the Argentine armed forces may not have a relevant naval force for the game itself...
I imagine this project like the one in Israel, which is incredible.
Argentina may not have as many air or land vehicles in contrast to (for example) the United States... but it could have the same or a similar amount as Israel.
Of course they could add premium vehicles :)
a big hug and hopefully this project can be carried out, the gamers of LATAM and Argentina would enjoy it and would be very grateful.

The TAM was a licensed produced version of a light MBT or medium tank designed by Thyssen-Henschel from a previous design using the HS30 chassis. Thyssen-Henschel offered a more complex and modern design with all the "bells and whistles" as the TH 301, but achieved no success before the end of the Cold War collapsed the market for MBTs. In a way, this was comparable to the Vickers Mk.1, a simplified, lighter (more transportation infrastructure "friendly' at 30-40 metric tons) MBT for export only. The Vickers Mk.1 was adopted by the Indian Army and placed in license production there, with (like the TAM) each tank delivered having more and more local parts until the vehicle was completely manufactured locally. Against its probable opponents, HV.50 and HV.51 Super Shermans in Chile and upgraded M41A3s in Brazil, it was satisfactory for the early 1980s. Tanque Argentino Mediano means Argentine medium tank so why is it considered a light tank? Same goes for the M18, it's a tank destroyer, not a light tank.

Reconozco la evolución del juego y cuanto ha crecido, seria bueno que creen el árbol tecnológico latinoamericano, "LATAM", es muy rica su historia desde el principio de 1900, naval-aérea y terrestre, y como cierre el mapa aeronaval de Malvinas 1982, la guerra que cambio todas las guerras, seria muy variado y de gran jugabilidad desde este lado del continente con un servidor, casi toda latinoamerica unida por su tecnologia e historia termino teniendo grandes buques de la 2da guerra, Chile, Argentina, Brasil, etc, los cuales hoy están desguazados.
I implore the entire community of War Thunder to test the resiliance of this little guy so we can use the results to convince the military to adopt new, better, more capable machines, maybe even getting more financial support from the government as an increased budget. Our military has been let down for decades, just recently the numbers of ensigns have increased and they continue to do so althought at a very slow rate. What we're in actual need is equipment, young boys are using 70's FAL rifles. It's absurd, we're no match for any updated military ans is clear we're becoming an easy target.

Id definitely buy a TAM for grinding Germany when i get a pc to play WT :DDD
and we still don't have any Brazilian vehicle in the game, and there are several possibilities.
The tam is one of our rarest and most beautiful tanks of all, we also need to add its artillery and rocket launcher variants, as well as a mortar. It remains to add the pukara and the phoenix pukara. also the pulqui I and the puqui II. it would be nice if they added the pampa lll training-attack block, and the SAIA 90 is a plane similar to the US F17 cobra, only it was never produced in series.

Panama was supossed to purchase the TAM in early 90s but we got invaded by the US and all purchases talks were cancelled

@@valentinodestefano6307 Friend, I have read several of your comments... I just want to tell you that perhaps you should learn a little more about the real possibilities that Argentina has the potential to become a technological tree according to Gaijin standards.
Also, we could still see the TAM S21, even the pre-series 2C-A2 with the iron wall armor pack and M428 sword (gaijin already did it with other vehicles). If the Wiesel came to the game, the VCTP could easily come with DM63. We could also see the VCLC (albeit as a premium, there are already other similar vehicles), we could even see the pre-series variants of the TAM 1 or TAM A without stabilizer and with a 600 hp engine.

The only battle that the TAM participated in was in a battle against guerrillas who took over a base better known as "La Tablada" if you are interested there are videos about that battle. I loved the video and surely the Argentine community too! 🇦🇷
I'm Brazilian and I would love to see Brazil as a nation or subnation in War Thunder! Especially in the armored wing. We have many very interesting projects that unfortunately many of them ended up not going forward like the other few that were successful. A great example of this is the XLF-40 light rocket launcher, CBTP Charrua
