I wrote this to a legalistic Christian who responded to me on your video..Their whole argument of losing and gaining and losing and gaining salvation based on achievements day in and day out makes no sense and is not the gospel of Jesus Christ. They are basically modern day pharisees.
How many sins does it take to lose salvation and how many good works to preserve salvation, since you believe the false gospel of constantly losing and gaining salvation. So that means you have to work to stay saved, your faith now becomes a religion based on merit not grace. And what is the will of the Father, that anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life, not anyone who performs works has eternal life or anyone who bears fruit has eternal life..Jesus said Himself the faith of a mustard seed will save your soul. So according to your logic salvation is DEPENDENT on how much fruit you bear and how many good works you produce. Explain exactly how many sins it takes to lose salvation and how many good works to keep salvation. This is the false doctrine you believe. A doctrine based on human achievement, not grace through faith. You are a proud and haughty heart cause you want your achievements to help contribute to your salvation. Legalistic christianity is heresy and a doctrine of demons. Trust in Christ and Christ alone for salvation, not how you perform day in and day out. For we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and not one does any good. If you believe you have to keep salvation based on works then your salvation isn't dependent on faith but on merit. This whole argument is a moot point cause only God can be the judge of good works and good fruit, not you cause you are a sinner like everyone else. God changes a believer from inside out but not all believers are on the same timeline. You sound more like a pharisee than a true Christian. God will finish the work inside you not by your power but by His.

They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Once saved always saved is a lie, and you are simply twisting scripture.

You find many times in NT Scripture where believing is put into the past tense like "have believed" or "had believed" or "having believed" which shows that salvation is indeed a one time event by believing in the gospel, not a process of staying faithful to an undefined degree. Peter himself denied Christ three times, how was he being faithful? How did he continue in the faith? *Did he not fall away in times of temptation?* (like the seed fallen among rocks) What about the prodigal son, did he not fall away? Yet he never stopped being a son. We are not saved by being faithful to an undefined degree but by believing in the gospel, being convinced that Christ died for our sins on the cross, that he was buried and resurrected on the third day. The gospel is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).

I’ve endured the Lord’s chastening many times, and He has always been faithful and His mercy endureth forever. I have two adult daughters that once believed, but after years of university have fallen away. I have faith that the Lord will show them the same mercy He has shown me. 1Corinthians 4:5 “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.”

I agree with your understanding. I wondered for long about this parable and the general understanding of course is that only those fallen on good ground are saved. But that would basically be Lordship salvation/Calvinism and completetely rules out a carnal Christian. I know I was saved (believed the gospel 100%) but in my first 3 years I was completely carnal with no fruits and no good ground. I still loved the world. I didn't read the Word enough to grow at all. Until God woke me up about the end times. I was like the seed which fell among thorns, but later on the seed finally grew and slowly prevailed over the thorns. Thanks be to God and the power of his Holy Spirit alone! The seed was never snatched away as with the one on the wayside, but it stayed in the ground and kept being watered until its time came!

I have in my backyard 3 fruit trees. I have a lemon tree that is currently bearing much ripe and mature lemons, but in previous years it bore nothing. I have a peach tree that always bears immature peaches about the size of a ping pong ball and it's been like that for years, and finally I have an Asian fruit tree that bore much mature and ripe fruit last year, BUT this year it bore NOTHING.
I've had that Asian fruit tree for over 20 years, but for the first 16 years it bore no fruit at all. Finally, at the 17th year it started to bear fruit, but not consistently. It would be incorrect to conclude that since my Asian fruit tree bore no fruit during those first 16 years that it was not a fruit tree.
Now, despite the erratic fruit bearing patterns of my 3 fruit trees in bearing fruit, that in no way negates the fact that they are still fruit trees. The same is true of Christians. Some Christians bear much fruit, some bear little fruit, and some bear no fruit at all during their walk with God, but that in no way negates the fact that they are saved and possessing eternal life. “Fruit” and “works” are not an accurate indicator of whether one is saved or not. There are people in society who do “good works” and exhibit “good moral behavior”, but are not saved and sometimes these people exist side by side with Christians. Such attributes can be seen in many unsaved philanthropists, humanitarianists, some martial artists, some Yoga practitioners, the Boys/Girls Scouts of America, and even among some atheists.
You also need to take into consideration the fact that many saved Christians go through periods of CRISIS. Death of a dearly loved one, disease, divorce, depression, unemployment, financial loss, etc, and it is during those times of crisis that a saved Christian may bear little or no fruit at all, but they are still saved. It would be wrong and self-righteous to conclude that they are "unsaved."
Of course, adherents of Lordship Salvation will no doubt write off Luke 8:13 and Luke 8:14 Christians as "unsaved". John MacArthur, and many other Lordshippers hold the same view, however, a careful reading of the text indicates that Luke 8:13-14 Christians are indeed saved with varying degrees of faith, and are living in a state of spiritual atrophy and stagnancy because of hindrances and obstacles in their lives stunting their growth as Christians.

He won't be entitled to ETERNAL REWARDS when his life will be evaluated and scrutinized by Jesus at the future Judgment Seat of Christ - 2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, but again, he's still saved as eternal life is a free gift.
1 Corinthians 3:14-15 - 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss BUT YET WILL BE SAVED-even though only as one escaping through the flames.

      ONLY ONE GROUND WAS GOOD.
      ALL CHRISTIAN'S BEAR FRUIT.
Only 1 of the of the places where the seed fell was good and produced fruit.
Jesus’ explanation of the Parable of the Sower highlights four different responses to the gospel. The seed is “the word of the kingdom.” The hard ground represents someone who is hardened by sin; he hears but does not understand the Word, and Satan plucks the message away, keeping the heart dull and preventing the Word from making an impression. The stony ground pictures a man who professes delight with the Word; however, his heart is not changed, and when trouble arises, his so-called faith quickly disappears. The thorny ground depicts one who seems to receive the Word, but whose heart is full of riches, pleasures, and lusts; the things of this world take his time and attention away from the Word, and he ends up having no time for it. The good ground portrays the one who hears, understands, and receives the Word-and then allows the Word to accomplish its result in his life. The man represented by the “good ground” is the only one of the four who is truly saved, because salvation’s proof is fruit (Matthew 3:7-8; 7:15-20).

A word of comfort for the believers:
“These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.”

Thats why i came to the conculsion that we can be all 3 soils that believed at differnt times during our Christian walk. I dont think continual faith is a requirement for salvation. As our faith will wax and wane. But do i believe that the Lord will preserve our faith in Him even if its just a mustard seed.

I always read this parable as the different grounds being different types of people who are unsaved, and one who is saved. What I appreciate about your interpretation is that rather than highlighting different types of people who are unsaved, it highlights how our affections inform our fruitfulness. It becomes a warning over being too worldly and too anxious, so that we may be more efficacious now.

    • @troy4544
      @troy4544 10 месяцев назад +3

I believe your first assessment is correct. Only one group truly saved. The others weren’t truly born again. He is mistaken on this parable.

    • @coreymiller6581
      @coreymiller6581 10 месяцев назад

@@troy4544 If we focus strictly on the text, we see the result of having good ground is abundance of fruit, which is why I think his interpretation is fair. There are no indicators, at least within this parable in isolation, that fruit and eternal salvation are inexorably tied. The interpretation is also supported by the fact that the Parable of the Wheat and Tares follows this parable in Matthew, wherein Jesus notes that "a man sowed *good* seed in his field" and afterwards his enemy "sowed weeds among the wheat". If this parable is meant to be a sequel of the Parable of the Sower (which seems natural given its proximity), it implies there is a difference between the seed thrown by the man (in spite of the ground upon which it was thrown), and the weeds that crept up around the wheat which is inevitably burned.
So there are those who hear the Word and are efficacious, those who hear the Word and never bear fruit, those who hear the Word and don't understand and so aren't saved, and those who are ultimately condemned despite growing around those who are saved.

@@The-GreenHornet no, I believe salvation is by faith only. It happens once and is instantaneous. I also believe the status of your salvation is not dependent on your works/fruits either. Salvation can't be lost. What I believe is that a person who has truly believed in Christ and his sacrifice will always produce fruits; even if it is slow or there are seasons where there is no growth. Some Christians produce more fruit than others. My issue with this message (or at least the way it was portrayed) is that it seems to follow antinomianism. Saying that you don't have to produce any good fruit or turn from any sin at all ever after believing in our Lord's work is stretching it too far. I am not saying a person has to prove their salvation by being forced to do something good, but rather out of their own faith, they will bear fruit.

    Hi @onodiamante
I see a discrepancy between the explanation of this parable and the one about the talents. If the man with one talent wasn’t saved neither were the other soils. Both parables end saying “whosever has more shall be given, those that don’t have what little they think they have shall be taken away” just because the other soils “believed” for a while or a minute doesn’t mean they BELIEVED unto life, not based on works but their belief wasn’t a born again belief, for example other religions believe in Jesus but are not IN Christ. James says even the devil believes and trembles, but that doesn’t mean belief unto salvation James 2:19

If a person once truly trusted Christ but later converts to another religion, are they an example of 1 John 2:19? (They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us:)

    • @wtom04
      @wtom04 10 месяцев назад +2

@jameshendrix-hf7xz It's not wise to just take 1 John 2:19 in isolation and out of context without reading 1 John 2:18 that gives the context of what is being said in verse 19. 1 John 2:18-19 is talking about false teachers who teach false doctrine who leave the church.
I once left my church out of anger, disappointment, and disillusionment for 9 long years living in apostasy, willful sin and rebellion against God. However, God chastised me to bring me back to fellowship with Him and here I am today. That was 30 years ago, but God has been gracious to me ever since.
Now, does that mean that my leaving my church where I then lived in sin and rebellion for 9 years means that I was never saved to begin with? NO. If I was never saved to begin with, then God would have never even bothered to chastise me - Hebrews 12:5-11. The problem with 1 John 2:18-19 is that many Calvinists/Lordship Salvationists like John MacArthur have errantly taken this passage to mean that Christians who leave the church or who convert to another religion must be "unsaved" to begin with.
Paul's ministry associate, Demas left Paul in 2 Timothy 4:10 because Demas was a Luke 8:14 Christian, but nowhere did the apostle Paul state that Demas was never saved to begin with. The point I'm trying to make is that there are UNSAVED people who leave the church and there are SAVED people who leave the church out of anger, disappointment, discouragement, and disillusionment, BUT are still saved. Saved Christians who depart from the church are not considered "unsaved" nor are they considered "anti-Christs".
It is the unsaved false teachers and unsaved people who are deceived who teach false doctrine who are considered "anti-Christs".
1 John 2:18 gives the context of what is being said in verse 19. Many Calvinists/Lordship Salvationists and all other works based gospel advocates will always quote 1 John 2:19 in ISOLATION in an attempt to prove that all people who leave the church were "never saved" to begin with. They will deliberately skip verse 18.

@jameshendrix-hf7xz The following Biblical example is worth considering in regards to your question on 1 John 2:19.
King Solomon is a true man of God, but became a serial polygamist taking 1000 wives and became a DEMON WORSHIPER at the end of his life - 1 Kings 11:1-13. Solomon also had a HAREM full of women - Ecclesiastes 2:8. Solomon even built 2 altars to the 2 demon gods, Chemosh and Molech in 1 Kings 11:7-8.
Molech was a demon god that required child sacrifices - A SATANIC PRACTICE. (The practice of sacrificing one's sons/daughters in the fire - Leviticus 18:21, 2 Kings 23:10) THIS WAS KING SOLOMON. Solomon persisted in his sins despite God warning him TWICE - 1 Kings 9:2 - 6, 1 Kings 11:9-11. Because of Solomon's defiance, God declared to Solomon that He would tear away a major portion of his kingdom, but do it in his son's generation because of God's covenant with Solomon's father, King David.
God then brought 3 adversaries against Solomon - 1 Kings 11:14, 23, 26. Then we read that Solomon tried to commit MURDER in 1 Kings 11:40. Nowhere in Scripture does it ever say that Solomon "lost his salvation" or "never had it to begin with."
People in the Old Testament were saved the exact same way as people in New Testament times, otherwise the apostle Paul would not have quoted Genesis 15:6 in Romans 4:2-6, and Galatians 3:5-8 in support of SALVATION BY FAITH ALONE IN CHRIST ALONE APART FROM OUR WORKS. Old Testament people were saved by LOOKING FORWARD to Christ and His finished work on the cross. Modern Church age people are saved by LOOKING BACK to Christ and His finished work on the cross.
John 19:30 - When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “IT IS FINISHED.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
Galatians 3:5-8 - 5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, OR BY BELIEVING WHAT YOU HEARD?
6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
7 Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham.
8 Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and ANNOUNCED THE GOSPEL IN ADVANCE TO ABRAHAM: “All nations will be blessed through you.”
John 8:56 - Your father Abraham REJOICED AT THE THOUGHT OF SEEING MY DAY; HE SAW IT AND WAS GLAD.
      Hope this helps, God bless!

I saw a response below to a different comment where Ono illustrates a similar point but with John the Baptist's doubt about Jesus instead.
The reason I asked the query was that I heard a convincing argument that a true Christian cannot be deceived by other religions, using the verse Mark 13:22 (stating that it's not possible for the elect to be deceived, implying that if they do become deceived, they weren't part of the elect).

@@jameshendrix-hf7xz You're welcome, brother! There are many SAVED Christians who later fall into doctrinal error, but they are still saved. This has been prophesied in Scripture.
Acts 20:30 - Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them.
1 Timothy 4:1 - The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
Of course, Calvinists and Arminians will teach that those who depart the faith into doctrinal error by embracing a false religion are "unsaved false professors with non saving faith" or that they "will lose salvation and go to hell."
There are SAVED false teachers within the church who once started out Free Grace teaching the true gospel of salvation by faith alone in Christ alone apart from works, BUT later on down the line get deceived and led astray by false doctrine like Calvinism or Arminianism. I can think of 2 examples. J.I. Packer was an eminent Calvinist/Lordship Salvation preacher who openly admitted that he once believed in the Free Grace gospel of John 3:16, but later on down the line recanted when he got deceived by Calvinism. He is saved, but he fell into doctrinal error and has led many people in his congregation down the Lordship Salvation path.
Steve Lawson is another example. Steve once attended Dallas Theological Seminary which was a seminary that was world renowned for teaching Free Grace/eternal security/once saved always saved (don't know about now) and was taught the true gospel where he earned his "Th.M" in theology. I believe Steve is saved.
However, somewhere down the line Steve attends "Reformed Theological Seminary" which is no doubt a Calvinist seminary and it was there that he earned his "D.Min" degree and became a full fledged Calvinist/Lordship Salvationist. I believe Steve is also affiliated with R.C. Sproul's Ligonier Ministries. Tragic because now he is leading people to hell with the false gospel of Calvinism/Lordship Salvation. It's probable that both Packer and Lawson are saved, but have fallen into doctrinal error and are misleading many down the wrong road. This is how Satan can use saved people who have fallen into doctrinal error to deceive and mislead unsuspecting people to hell - Acts 20:30, 1 Timothy 4:1.
      Hope this helps, God bless!

@@jameshendrix-hf7xz Also, the context of Mark 13:1-21 which parallels Matthew 24:1-24 is talking about Christians during the 7 year Tribulation period. As you may know, many Christians of that future time period will be hunted down, severely persecuted, and killed by the Anti-Christ and his beast system. Mark 13:22 is talking about how during that time that many false teachers will come on the scene as is true of now currently who will and are currently preaching false doctrine deceiving many of the unsaved. Jesus warns ahead of time that being vigilant and practicing spiritual discernment is of the utmost importance, otherwise, truly saved Christians can be deceived and brainwashed as well.
We already see this happening today with the many false doctrines within mainstream Christianity. There are currently 19 false denominations (maybe more) that have utterly perverted God's Word and twisted the gospel.
Jesus warns in Matthew 24:22 that the Tribulation period will be cut short, otherwise, no truly saved Christian, including the Jewish believers will survive, but be wiped out by the Anti-Christ. There will be survivors of the 7 year Tribulation. They are the ones who endure to the end of their faith to be saved from being killed by the Anti-Christ and they will also survive the horrific wrath of God who will pour out His intense wrath upon the unsaved world during the Tribulation.

What man has an honest and good heart to produce spiritual fruit except the one which has the Spirit? And if this is all that distinguishes him then what does this say about the other soils, particularly the middle two soils? Are you saying some have a natural state that helps them produce spiritual fruit when they believe? Perhaps their heart was not wicked and deceitful like the other soils. I’ll add patience is a fruit of the Spirit, the last is with patience.
Believe as used for the two middle soils may not be of the same quality as the last. Otherwise are you not saying some men when saved receive benefits for perseverance while others don’t? Essentially saying some have the Spirit while others do not?
“Believe” in the middle two soils for example may mean a mental ascent or like one who was raised culturally in the church like those not belonging to the remnant in Israel. Opposed to one who believes due to a spiritual birth and indwelling.
“Becomes unfruitful” need not mean they ever had Spiritual fruit but rather just external visible fruit. True Spiritual fruit may look identical or similar to artificial fruit to man but not to God.
This does not make fruit a condition for salvation but a result. It does not say fruit is homogeneous in type, quality, or quantity. Nor does it mean we can discern fruit which is more than an imitation from that which is of the Spirit. So, the thief on the cross had very little fruit but surely had faith. It’s not about drinking again and again so much as having ever drank the living water.
Also a honest and good heart in a Romans 7 reality, not externally perfect or internally subjectively perfect but Spiritually alive.

There are 3 accounts of this parable and only Luke uses the word “believe” in 2 of the soil examples. To understand what this parable means we must reconcile all the accounts in order to conclude upon which soil is saved and which soil is not saved. Matthew, Mark and Luke’s account of this parable are all prefaced by Jesus saying “you will indeed hear but never understand and you will indeed see but never perceive”. The perception of the hearer is what makes the soil rich so that the seed sown (word of God) will produce good fruit (of the Spirit) that comes from receiving the word, understanding the word and believing the word. Jesus is the word. Those who are saved receive Jesus, understand Jesus and believe Jesus. That is belief that results in salvation. The only soil the produces good fruit is the last one, thus is the only one saved. In Matthew and Mark the other 3 soils produce no fruit. No fruit means no Holy Spirit which means not saved. In the second soil example in Luke, it says “but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of testing fall away”. Again no fruit is produced for they have no roots to produce it. If someone’s belief is not rooted in a truthful perception of Christ it is make belief. You are right to focus on the word believe relating to salvation but perhaps that singular focus has caused you to miss an example of belief that doesn’t result in salvation. Remember even the demons believe and they tremble. The same word for believe in the Greek (pisteuousin) is used in that passage for the belief of the demons and here for the belief of the thorny soil seed people. Juxtapose that with the good soil who “hearing the word, hold fast in an honest and good heart and bear fruit with patience”. In Luke the second to last soil produces “immature” fruit. This immature fruit is not from a believer. Going back to the preface it seems that there is something missing in thier perception of the word (Jesus) that doesn’t allow them to fully trust the word and bear the good fruit that Jesus said will come from a believer. The fruit that does not mature is based on superficial belief from those whose perception of Jesus was choked before they could fully understand the truth of the word. My best example for this in reality is those who consider Jesus a great teacher or prophet or great person, but do not believe that He is God. The idea of Jesus produces something but immature fruit is not full and is not good. The only soil saved is the good soil which echos creation in Genesis. Broad is the gate that leads to destruction and narrow is the way that leadeth unto life. It makes more sense that only the good soil represents those who are saved. Lastly the phrase “becometh unfruitful” does not necessarily mean they were fruitful to begin with. It could also mean that they had the potential to be fruitful but because the seed was sown among thorns it was rendered unfruitful instead because the seed was choked by the thorns. I enjoy your content and I hope you will receive my analysis as my honest assessment sparked by my genuine love for Jesus a desire to understand Him more.
