    Karen, just found your videos a few weeks ago and have loved everyone I've watched and tried. When I first see them, I think" Oh that's too way too difficult - I could never do that." But then I watch and learn as you use each tool to create that "oh-so-cool" look. I end up saying "heck, I CAN do that!" (maybe not as well, but its a journey). Your videos are truly very relaxing. Thanks and I look forward to each new video.

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  4 года назад +2

      Great question Chu, I am sorry I didn't explain. Once the salt has dried it lifts off colour and leaves some beautiful texture. However you do need to brush off the salt as the crystals still remain. Hope this was helpful? Thank you for watching :)

      Thank you for your comment and question Vicki, to answer the question about why your masking fluid is tearing your paper, it could be for the following reasons: you’ve had the masking fluid for it for long time, the painting was not quite dry when you remove the masking fluid, it must be totally dry. The paper using doesn’t like masking fluid. Hope this is helpful, Happy painting :-)

    Hi Karen, I tried this today and it looks decent from far, but my experience with masking fluid was disastrous. It didn’t flow like yours did in the video and I had blotches all over. When I tried to remove it, the paper tore ☹️ I don’t know what I’m doing wrong...

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  4 года назад

      Oh dear that's a shame! How long have you had the masking fluid?

  • @mlarks28
    @mlarks28 4 года назад +1

    I love this painting, particularly the technique you've used... but. I cannot recreate the masking effect you've achieved. I either get a cart wheel or a white disc! I've tried every make of masking medium, liquid and pens, used twigs (very nice oak ones), Artcoe brushes, ruling/drawing stylus, toothpicks and the SAA Fineliner masking fluid dispenser. So I've decided that you're probably a witch and should be burned immediately...
    Seriously though, I cannot crack this technique and I've spent about 3 days solid trying.
    Totally loving your work and approach though. Thanks.

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  4 года назад

      Thank you for your comment, sorry you’re having trouble with masking fluid it can be a tricky medium or technique to do. It’s difficult to answer your question without fully knowing where you are having trouble? I find the twig best for getting the thin lines and if you make a mistake in masking fluid...let it dry and just rub off the mistake, don’t be too hard on yourself! I hope this helps good luck :-)

      Well, in all fairness, it's often about getting it wrong a few times before things click. It's just very frustrating that my own experiences in using masking fluid have been pretty successful but I just can't seem to get the distribution right with this one... but I will... eventually!
      Thanks for your feedback.

    You make it look easy, well well I wanna try this too....in my mind it’s not a big problem. It’s just that I start doing about the same, then I’ve stopped the video and something happens with my mind ...-> I do anything else which isn’t bad, it’s just I don’t have the technical skills so it doesn’t end the way I want...that feels frustrating. Or I overwork it - that is also a big big issue.

      Thank you for your comment Ann-Marie, I am sure many will sympathise with your frustration. Just take it step by step, do your best, keep practicing, don't over work! Most important try to enjoy painting and don't be too hard on your self! :)

      Karen Rice Art Channel Easier said than done. I often forget You were a beginner once, too. I keep painting, today it went geometric shapes in negative painting style and also tried not to overthink.

    WHATS MASKING FLUID?

    • @KarenRiceArt
      @KarenRiceArt  4 года назад

      Thanks for your question: Masking fluid is a liquid used to protect paper from paint. You take it off when your painting is dry to reveal the white paper. Hope this was helpful. :)
