Hi, great video! I just took delivery of my DWE7485 this morning. I’m disappointed the knob to operate the rack and pinion appears to be broken and doesn’t sit quite right. I have the company collecting it on Thursday but as they have no more in stock and don’t have a date from Dewalt for the next batch, I’m wondering if I keep it and order a new knob for a few quid. Can you tell me if the rod between the front and back spins in a neat rotation OR does it rotate in an offset fashion? Coupled with the dodgy turning knob on my machine, I notice the rotation is off! It may be the way it’s supposed to be but I have never played with one of these in a shop. Any advice you could give would be much appreciated!
Also, can you tell me what was in the small packet that you took out of the box? It was a flat white packaging about the size of a cigarette packet. Just questioning as I didn’t get such in my box this morning!
My advice would be to return it as you’ve just spent nearly £500. I know waiting is a pain but it’s worth having it right. Perhaps there is another supplier with stock available? My rack and pinion system is pretty smooth. The fence moves very smoothly but you can feel some feedback from the teeth through the turning knob. Perhaps yours was knocked out of alignment when the knob got broken. Regarding the white packet, that was just silicon crystals to keep moisture low in the box!
The saw will be collected tomorrow and I’ll wait to see if they get their delivery in the coming month. Looking at it again today, it looks like it had taken a fair whack during delivery maybe as the knob had snapped off its sleeve. The rails have been mounted a tooth apart and so the fence is circa 5mm out of parallel! Thanks for clarifying the small white packet! Glad I saw your video as it’s shown me exactly how the machine should arrive. I don’t always trust what is shipped out! Can’t wait to get one. It’s a lovely bit of kit! Anyway, keen to see any videos you post using the machine :-)
I am refitting the workshop at the moment and have been using the saw a lot. It genuinely cuts beautifully. I have seen a lot of reviews that the saw is well calibrated straight from the box and this is probably true but i did find i had a slight ‘out to in’ angle between blade and fence resulted in the back of the blade being 0.4mm closer to the fence than the front. It was very easily calibrated though by loosening a couple of screws and very light taps with a rubber mallet. Don’t trust the angle scale or the fence scale either. (I would say that for any saw though). I will post a proper review next month once the workshop is back up and running but in general i still feel it is an excellent saw for the money. Great for your average hobby wood worker right out of the box, and with a little calibration it can be a very accurate machine.
Love the way it's easy to move from shed to kitchen when you need to slice some veg. Can it spiralise?!?
If it can’t do it, it ain’t worth doing!
