  • Hey, guys! I hope all is well. Today I am bringing you an updated review of the latest generation Wacom Intuos Pro. I was never happy with how the original came and I wanted to do something better for you. This time we use the Intuos Pro with Wacoms smooth texture sheet. We see how the texture sheet changes the experience, we talk about the hardware, the Pro Pen 2, and more.

    Sorry for the long intro- this was recorded at a time where I was experimenting and doing some things very randomly. It wasn’t on purpose- I don’t like long intros either. Modern videos on the channel don’t have long intros.

    What I did with my older Intuos tablets to get the smooth texture, I went over their surface with a rubber eraser to remove the grainy finish. It's not an ideal way to achieve it but hey, as long as it's free.. I really wish they'd stop shipping their tablets with grainy textures as the default option, it doesn't feel good, it wears out the nibs too fast and eventually it leaves the surface all scracthed up and shiny in places where you draw the most. My first tablet was Intuos3 and it had no texture, it still looks like new and I never had to replace the nibs.

      I came up with a similar strategy, however I think rubber eraser might do it more effectively, without risking to damage the tablet itself.

    I remember using Wacom tablet many years ago. The experience was out of this world. For university I have bought myself Surface Pro 4, which shifted from Wacom technology (used in Surface Pro 1 and 2) to their own. I was thinking the pen feel will be at least similar, but I was wrong. Microsoft pen technology was and is years behind Wacom, even compared to Wacom's first generation. Pen matrix resolution and pressure levels are very low and there is very limited if any advanced tilt support on Surface Pro 4 with annoying tip offset. These limitations were very noticeable on precise and slow lines, that were drawn edgy, because of low resolution. Therefore I have used the pen very little, only for quick and basic stuff (highlighting and circling the pdfs) and later I completely switched to paper notes.
    I would argue that a precise gaming mouse and low latency display offer a better drawing experience than an inferior pen design. Now that I am drawing a lot of block diagrams I am thinking of investing in Wacom tablet since I won't have to redraw them from paper to PC.

It should run on multiple versions of windows like 7 & 10 but I would double check to be sure. The tablet functions through Wacom’s drivers so you might want to double check on that. Stay well!

    From what I gathered the only way the cintiq is somewhat superior to intuos is when it comes to drawing linework, but is inferior when it comes to painting. I guess if you're a pro comics artist the cintiq might worth the huge price.

      paintstorm is very laggy and ui is very cluttered, i feel like i wasted money on it

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  6 лет назад

      abdul malik Paintstorm cluttered? That doesn’t make sense. It’s UI conforms and it’s meant to be designed by the user. The entire basis of its dynamic and responsive user interface is to get out of the way. What system are you using it on? You need a discrete card to run it well on the desktop- but everything can be ran with GPU off. You have to spend time learning the ins and outs.

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  6 лет назад

      abdul malik Adjust your global scale- redesign your interface. Every part of the Paintstorm UI is made to be redesigned by the user. Everything and every part can be scaled in size dynamically- and every tool is at your disposal by a single movement. It literally streamlines it all. If you are using it on a system without discrete graphics- it’s better to run it with GPU off. If you have a discrete card- the brushes can be pushed by the GPU. Bristle brushes are complex, and are not designed to go over 250-300 pixels- if you want to use them large you have to lower the bristle amount. You have to take the time out to understand the core fundamentals of the soft.

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  6 лет назад

      abdul malik And if it doesn’t work out email them- they’ll refund you. However, I think you should spend more time w/it- it takes a while to really master what it’s all about.

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  6 лет назад +1

      Amna Khan Khan Well if you want the in depth hot keys and touch ring along with the 8K pro pen 2 I’d say yes. The intuos pro is basically the equivalent of the cintiq pro just without the screen. However, if you don’t want or need the 8K pen or the hotkeys like this- they do make the standard intuos which is cheaper. If it’s your first tablet you might want to try the standard intuos first. Also if you go for the intuos pro you will have to buy the smooth texture sheet to get a normal experience for illustration.

      Julian Lewis I think if you get the soft texture sheet it can give a decent experience however I still wish they redesigned the pen tips. With the stock sheet for me it was unusable. My reason for preferring the modern Intuos Pro is for the Pro Pen 2 features. I think the soft sheet and felt nibs work well. Maybe they will make new pen tips for it. I don’t think it’s a bad buy if you get the soft sheet but I’m not a fan of how it forces you into having to buy the soft sheet.

    Hi, this is probably a stupid question, but at 19:29, the tablet itself seems to have a display, and it doesn't look like a reflection of the computer. I didn't think the Intuos pro had a display like that. This isn't like a Cintiq, right, where it has its own screen? You can't draw directly onto it, you have to look at a computer screen to see what you are drawing? I'm considering buying one and I've never owned one before. I'm trying to figure out if this is worth the money or if I should just get something else, like a Huion Kamvas, which would allow me to have a device similar to a Cintiq for only a couple hundred dollars more than an Intuos. There are a lot of horrible reviews for all the products I mentioned, so it's been really difficult to make a decision.

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  5 лет назад

      K Cook It doesn’t have a display- it’s just a pen tablet. No screen. Have to look at a monitor like I’m showing here. As far as what to get- you’d have to figure out what works best for you. Drawing on screen or looking straight ahead at monitor. I am no longer using the Intuos Pro- but I found it to be better with the smooth texture sheet. I realized I prefer working directly on screen but I prefer medium sized screens rather than large.

    I'm glad that they put long rubber feet almost as wide as the tablet, because the previous Pro (at least the S version) has them on the corners and when I rest my hand on the middle, the tablet bends under the weight - very annoying.
    What I'm not happy about is that Wacom still thinks professionals are actually using the pen "eraser" - no sane artist will turn their pen while they're drawing/sculpting. The "eraser" adds costs, which is supported by the customer of course and it rattles so the pen feels less sturdy making annoying sounds.

      For Windows or Mac I reccomend Clip Studio Paint, Krita, and Paintatorm. Each are fully featured and I prefer them over PS. In fact I don't do any drawing or Painting in PS. Krita is free, and the other two are very cheap. All have great brush engines and are full pro level software's.

    Hi there, I am an artist and degree graduate that has always done her art work strictly by hand with pen to paper, however i am looking to try out the world of digital art. I feel like such a newborn in terms of digital art and technology ...but i have been looking this tablet online and am tempted to buy it and give it a go. Would you say it is a good investment for a digital art beginner like myself? does my background and confidence in 2d hand drawn illustration, painting, rush technique etc give me any advantage? by that i mean, will it help me flow into things a bit better?. What level of quality works can you create with this device? I work mainly in fashion illustration and animation as well as tattoo design so something that would look effective and give me nice precise quality to send to clients instead of sending them physical artwork via postage etc would help ten fold. Any information or advise would be appreciated thank you kindly in advance.

      @CladioJulianoArt  4 года назад

      Hey! Well, I have to be honest. I think as someone just coming in you would be better served with an iPad and Apple pencil. Not only do many of the pros use it, but its just excellent those transitioning into digital because its extremely natural and realistic. Plus, you can work directly on screen. This wouldn't be the right tool for you. The iPad and Apple Pencil would be the best tool for you to get into digital art with. I reccomend the newer iPad Air that has pencil support. Check some of the iPad videos here on the channel.

    In comparison, is this one better than the new intuos M ctl 6100?
    I don't know if these are the right ones, but it says it's an intuos pro s. I need help to know which is better and which I should buy

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  5 лет назад

      alan There is Intuos & Intuos Pro. The
      new/latest gen Intuos Pro’s only come in Medium and Large sizes- the small size is the older generation. The intuos pro medium and large have Wacom’s latest technology which is the 8K pen pressure, natural tilt, and rotation. The regular non pro intuos is 4K and I don’t think they offer tilt. The intuos pro medium and large also have a verity of express keys and the touch ring + center button. If you get the Intuos pro medium or large you’ll want to get the smooth texture sheet. The one that comes with the machine is not really unusable for Art because it’s like sand paper and it files down the tips super quick.

    • @michipard
      @michipard 5 лет назад

      @@CladioJulianoArt So in comparison, which wins? ctl-6100 (medium intuos) or intuos pro S? I can afford both but I can't get the medium))

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  5 лет назад

      alan Depends on your use case. The new intuos pro medium is bigger than CTL6100 so it’s definitely larger and takes up more space. Both have good pen tech but technically the intuos pro medium will have the CTL6100 beat because it has Wacom’s full 8K pressure pen technology- it also has more express keys. If you need something smaller and more compact the standard intuos would be the way to go. If you want something for a desk the Intuos Pro medium would be the better option.

    • @michipard
      @michipard 5 лет назад

      @@CladioJulianoArt I meant the small intuos, the one that's older. The Intuos pro S. (I need this help as its my first tablet and I don't wanna buy something that couldve been replaced with something better)

    • @CladioJulianoArt
      @CladioJulianoArt  5 лет назад

      alan Oh technically the intuos pro medium would be better. The Pro S has Wacom’s old gen 2K pen tech and less natural tilt. Wacom’s new 8K pen tech has much more natural tilt and rotation - and its a nice design. However like I said the medium is much bigger than the small even in that case.
