@Serica Do you really need to look for the x? For me its location is pretty clear, I know quite well where it's on the keyboard. However every user is different so no hate here of course.

basically i never sketch in Photoshop because of the "circle of death"... you saved my life @photoshopCAFE! Thank you so much :) What a life changer! Now my wacom is intuitive like 15 years ago, wich is amazing.
Then why would you give up such an important, pressure sensitive, function like the eraser for a simple shortcut instead of using a tablet function key. And realistically, how many times would you use the background switching function to make it worth keying any of them for that in the first place, as it's one of the most accessible function on the UI interface to start with? That should also be more than easily accessible through your colour pallet anyways. Personally, I never even used that function in my entire career. I don't even really see the function of it to start with.
@@flipletape9706 For me it's the most used key after modifiers and space. moving over to the UI button hundreds of times while painting in masks would absolutely kill my productivity. But I agree, using the eraser is both, a waste of function and time. Even clicking the UI would be faster then flipping the pen all the time. Drawing the circle also is really made me cringe too. How can that even be considered with circular paths and selections existing?
@@Kevin-ph2hm i think the point of that circle drawing is to show people the importance of setting forced proportion of your tablet active area to the monitor screen
I like the dodging and burning that you did to that image. It can really make a dull looking image stand out. Left another "THUMBS UP" on your video as I always do. I had a tabled years ago, but it unfortunately died - would really appreciate another one. Thanks.
Hello Colin I was a high-end graphic artist for 38 years, now a retired pensioner, but I still do a freelance job now and then and lots of graphic help for charities and friends. I sorely miss all of the high-end equipment I used in my old job. A new Wacom tablet would make my life a great deal easier. Thanks for the cool videos. You not only explain what you CAN do with these techniques, but why you might want to!
You can view the live drawing of the Wacom tablet winner here ruclips.net/video/Hmqt6cQwX3E/видео.html Also, check out the Wacom tutorial on the same video. Thanks for taking part guys and congrats to the winners!
I wanted this tablet for so long and this is a great opportunity for me to get it! I started digital art 4 months ago and am still using old wacom baboo tablet which is the only one i could afford at that time. This on the other hand is something that would help me improve much more. Good luck to all!
Great Video. I have been using a small Wacom tablet for a while now and the things I just learned from your video have ended countless hours of frustration just because of my settings. THANK YOU. I also realized my tablet is too small and I need more real estate to draw on.
It would be nice. I've thought about getting another one just never have. I still get everything done that I need to with it and haven't talked myself into spending the money to get a new one. :) And I'm usually sitting back in my chair and just have the tablet in may lap so the smaller one works good for that.
Thank you. I'm just starting with a tablet, and this was helpful. I have a question I can't find an answer for...Can you use the same Wacom tablet on computers with different operating systems, assuming you have the right drivers installed on each? I'd like to use my tablet on both my Mac and my PC. Can that be done?
I just got my first magazine cover and I am about to start work on my first book cover. I have never used a Wacom tablet before. I think it could help me create awesome images. Great video.
Great tips thanks - I really need one of these - it would make it much easier for me to carry out my image processing - at the moment my fur baby called Dexter thinks that he is in control of all things creative when it comes to processing and he hogs the keyboard - the tablet will allow me to to have some say /control over creative processes used!!!!
Hi Colin, loved your PS Cafe for years, and this free tutorial solved a lot issues for me - especially the circles info. I'm 77 years old, a retired designer and on a very low fixed income. That new Wacom tablet would help me a lot.
I have a question and you seem to be very knowledgeable about photoshop and Wacom tablets. Whenever I touch the pen onto the tablet to edit in photoshop, the brush dialog comes up instead of cloning or painting. How can I get this to stop? I am frustrated to the point of not using the tablet at all. Please help. Thank you.
Having a Wacom tablet would make my editing so much faster and when you have kids speed is always a necessity. Love the videos. I learned how to use Adobe products by watching your channel. The last time I had used PS was the very first one in high school and it had changed a lot. You have pretty much taught me how to edit pictures.
Tip #3 was AWESOME!!!!! I've been fighting with that for AGES! I had changed the one, but not the second on Windows!!! YEAH! No more circles and non response! THANK YOU!!!
Christmas is coming, most presents are babbit. Socks, shoes purchased from habit. I don't want robots with rockum, sockum, but a new Intuos Pro tablet for Photoshop, made by Wacom . A Wacom is not a gadget or toy, but to be able to edit and create in PS with a tablet would fill me with joy. If Santa delivered a Wacom, I'd feed his reindeer, give Mrs. Claus a hug, and fill Santa with beer. So for the drawing in November, nothing would be finer, than to win a Wacom Intuos medium for this designer.
Thanks, this was helpful. When I try to draw on my Wacom tablet in PS, the whole page moves with my pen strokes--so annoying! How do I get it to stay still? Thanks.
love wacom tablet and your tips are great. When you draw, it look like you pen dont touch the tablet. If so, did you adjust it so the clic is on the option ''floating clic'' or ?? thanks...
Great video as always. I have been using photoshop since 4 years now, I started when I was 13. I didn’t had a good camera (still don’t) so that took me to photoshop. Now I have learnt a lot in the way, but there’s still a lot left. Keep making the videos, it’s really helpful!
Hi. I really like your videos. I don't know if you're a professional teacher but I can tell your easy to follow throughout your differents videos, your subjects are well prepared. Good job and thank you Jacques.
Thanks for the video, I need a trick with my Wacom tablet and Adobe CC... In the few preview year, Adobe have lunch multiple versions of Photoshop and each time my Wacom tablet doesn't recognize the new version of Photoshop. How to update my shortcut in the Wacom tablet after updating Photoshop on Windows without restarting from scratch ?
Thanks for a very helpful video. I have just one little questions. When I assigned 'x' to eraser and tried switching FG-BG colors, it only works if I tap somewhere around menus. If I tapped in the middle of the tablet (which means on the Image), it still works as the eraser.. Any idea why?
You solve one of my problems, when I use brush photoshop opens the brush dialog, that´s ok now. I have another problem, if I use brush let´s say in a mask, when I click to paint with the pen in a zoom photo it moves all like if I use the Hands.???
Have a kid who is a senior and soon off to college. Finally have the time to do what I want to do and that is to learn how to use this new tablet and photoshop my day away. I have a really nice huge tablet from like 1995. It has some kind of round connector that I can't even remember what it was!
As a non-Wacom tablet user, I'd love to add one of these powerful tools to my work-flow. You make it look easy. Thanks for the tips. One way or another, I'll have one on my desk very soon!
I want to get rid of that circle menu that tip #3 shows, but I am using Windows 8.1 not 10 so I can't access the Windows menu "settings", I can only select the Control Panel and turn off the press and hold for right-hand selecting. How do I get the two part turn off under Windows 8.1?? How can I get rid of this annoying 'feature'??
Hi Colin, I've tried everywhere including Wacom support to find a way to make the wacom react quicker when using slider in either Lightroom CC or Photoshop CC. Is there a setting to speed this up. I'm using the Wacom Intuos Pro with the latest driver installed on Windows 10 which is also fully updated. It used to perform much faster than it is now when I first purchased the tablet. Thanks.
Colin, thank you. As a long time Wacom user, I still learned some tips. I don't need the drawing, as I have a small desk and my Intous Pen and tablet small works just fine.

OH GURU thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All is super useful what you passed here but getting rid of tool tips while doing detailed work -little circles saved my sanity. I was going nuts due to this bug . Being in great hurry, with deadline over my head fighting with tool tips x 10000000000 I was switching for a mouse just to survive. I contacted Wacom representative in Poland and in the US and all they could tell me was that somwhere in Windows options there is something to turn off. No specifics. So I tried several times so switch this and that off in Wacom tablet options and in windows pen options to no avail. And finally you - you save me. Deep bow. YOurs for ever ;) Dorota
I used to use the tablet and haven’t now for a while, but it seemed to give me more control in tight spots and felt more like I was drawing with (of all things), a pencil or brush!
I was trying your tips tonight and there is an issue with your first tip (eraser as D & B brush), I have added LR and PS in the Applications and your tip will only work if you select it in the ALL Other applicati
Hi Colin I have been having problems with my wacom pen I am in windows 10 and last time I did all you said and all was great but now when I enlarge my photos to work on them my pen is acting like move tool so when I go to correct it will move the photo instead of correcting (using brush tool) When I put the photo back to normal size works ok. But then I can't see real good to get in close?? Is anyone else having this problem. I have tried a lot of different things but nothing seems to work? I need help??
Gidday mate. Aunty Floosey from Waikikamukow would like to use this as a pot stand so she does not leave burn marks on the table after cooking up a feed of puha and pakeha. Actually I really really really need one of these to help with my lightroom photo processing. Does it work with lightroom?
For the first tip with the dodging and burning, surely it's just quicker to have your other hand press the "X" key to switch between colors? Seems much quicker than flipping the pen over. Also not sure if you meant it how you said it but pen smoothing in photoshop doesn't slow down your performance it just makes the brush play catch-up with your cursor which smooths it out, changing the amount of smoothing will change how quickly it catches up, 0% meaning it's gonna just stick to your cursor and paint instantly.
I am a old 50 year old guy who has gone back to school for a degree in graphic design. A Wacom would change my life. Great tip for the circle aspect ratio.
Thanks, Colon! I am retired and struggling to use photoshop and become a photographer for my retirement career and this tablet would enhance my proficiency.
thank you, very helpful. is there a way to get rid of that annoying onscreen keyboard that appears when using the tablet? sometimes i got this on screen and there’s no way to close that window. thanks for any help. keep up tue good work.
The smoothing option does not affect performance. The delay you're seeing is literally inherent in how the smoothing works. It simply, literally, physically could not keep up with the pen while still smoothing the stroke.
I've been using wacom tablet since i was 13 years old, so for 17 years, and i remember so well that i was a bit sad i could not trace my sketches on top of the tablet(if i didnt want to scan it in). But aparently i was able all the time! I've been having so much struggles. omg than you!! haha
Great video! Hears why I´d like to win: 1. I finished school few months ago (no money to spend on a tablet), 2. I like to draw und retouch, 3. I haven´t got a tablet, 4. I like to use it with Affinity Photo and Designer
Thanks for the video...it had some great tips. I've been wanting a tablet because my editing and retouching are moving beyond the abilities of a mouse. My research has shown me this would be the perfect match for me and Photoshop. Thanks
This was probably my favorite video you have done. Using the wacom pen to move between foreground and background with the erasure was really amazing. I'm a fan!!
*TLDR of this video* 1) Flip your pen upside down to press X for ya. Cause ya know its not like you have a keybord, express keys or pen side buttons. 2) Mess with you tablets aspect ratio to draw a circle. Its not like Photoshop has a tool for that already. Who needs muscle memory anyway. 3) an actual tip on how to get rid of Hold To Rightclick 4) turn on this one thing in the dynamic bar to make smooth lines. Cus ya know no artist knows anyrhing about the dynamic bar. 5) Use this on screen gimmick insted of the keybord right in front of you. 5.2) Remember to back up you settings. Its not like the wacom drivers are known to suck and need to be reinstalled a lot.
I can't figure out how to just utilize the freaking pen. I seen a bunch of these tutorials and tried some tips and the darn thing is not drawing anything. It's not that it is not recognizing it either. The pad lights up when the pen touches it. So IDK. Very frustrating :(
I have wanted to own a Wacom tablet but never had the courage to 'pull the trigger' and always thought a mouse would do. Seeing more of these tutorials has made me think I should just go ahead and get one - obviously winning one would be even better :-)
My intous 3 widescreen format, is the oldest hardware I own. It stood its time well, but is starting to show its wear on the drawing surface. I don''t think Ive ever owned other hardware that lasted this long. The draw is the day after my birthday, and sure would make a good present.
Mauijade;I have been watching photo shop cafe since I was an art teacher now retired; I am using an I Pad Pro. I would love to try a Wacom Tablet! Always great information that is easy to use for even the ‘more mature’ followers. Thanks
I loved your dodge and burn tips and can't wait to use them. I've only had a small Wacom tablet and would love the Intuos Pro. Keep the tips coming. Thanks
Thanks a lot, that was really awesome. I have a small tablet that i used to draw with, but the lines are not smooth and while retouching also i can't turn on the pressure. I think the Wacom can do more than i expected. Thanks again and wish to see more in the days to come.
Although I don't have a tablet, I find your videos always informative! I currently am a disabled below the knee amputee on a fixed income and would love to win a Wacom tablet. My hands and fingers have lost feeling and strength... at times (more often in the last few months) I have trouble feeling the mouse buttons so I think the tablet pen would help immensely. Anyhow, best wishes!
Tip number 3.....I have the same problem, but on a Mac. Any suggestions? Would be very much appreciated if anybody has had the same issue, and how to get rid of it. Thanks
Tip number 3!!!!! I have been looking for a solution to that problem for so long - thank you for posting this. I have a older tablet and stopped using it because of that circle/menu issue. Wouldn’t mind an upgrade to that fancy one you are using :-).
Thanks so much for the great tips AND for the opportunity to work the tablet! I would love to have this updated version of the tablet as I only have the Intuos 3.
Thanks for the tips, Colin. Especially the one that eliminated the Press and Hold cursor issue - it was driving me crazy!!!! Would like the Wacom 5 because I'm still on an old Wacom and would love to be able to have gestures!!!
I use the Cintiq 12WX, which is larger than a Intous but smaller than my monitor. So, I wasn't concerned about being able to trace well, but I didn't think about using my stencils as drawing guides. Dude 🤯 I am about to break out my stencils and have some fun with them.
Great tips! You can never have enough Wacom products. It's also effective to assign a hotkey to an action, then make that hotkey assigned to the eraser on you tablet settings. You can get a lot done by flicking your wrist ant tapping the eraser.
I'd love an Intuos tablet. My Bamboo is a little small now that I'm doing so much phot editing. Love the 5 tips, finally able to get rid of that annoying press and hold action in Windows 10
Great Information, Colin!!! My reason for wanting a new WACOM Tablet is I NEED it!!! The pad of my tablet is bump city. It would be great to have a smooth flow! Thanks in Advance!!
Thanks for the getting rid of the right click circle! That has been annoying me for ages. Would love to upgrade my Wacom tablet, my current one is rather worn from use.

The smoothing option does not affect performance. The delay you're seeing is literally inherent in how the smoothing works. It simply, literally, physically could not keep up with the pen while still smoothing the stroke.
I wanna win a Wacom Tablet! If Photoshop is bread, a Wacom tablet is butter.
I've been using wacom tablet since i was 13 years old, so for 17 years, and i remember so well that i was a bit sad i could not trace my sketches on top of the tablet(if i didnt want to scan it in). But aparently i was able all the time! I've been having so much struggles. omg than you!! haha
I would like to have this graphic tablet because I love to draw but I only have a mouse which makes the process longer. Thank you.
I'm a fan!!
*TLDR of this video*
1) Flip your pen upside down to press X for ya. Cause ya know its not like you have a keybord, express keys or pen side buttons.
2) Mess with you tablets aspect ratio to draw a circle. Its not like Photoshop has a tool for that already. Who needs muscle memory anyway.
3) an actual tip on how to get rid of Hold To Rightclick
4) turn on this one thing in the dynamic bar to make smooth lines. Cus ya know no artist knows anyrhing about the dynamic bar.
5) Use this on screen gimmick insted of the keybord right in front of you.
5.2) Remember to back up you settings. Its not like the wacom drivers are known to suck and need to be reinstalled a lot.
Muchísimas gracias, ame su explicación, soy principiante y batallaba con el menú de la pluma. Bendiciones
I can't figure out how to just utilize the freaking pen. I seen a bunch of these tutorials and tried some tips and the darn thing is not drawing anything. It's not that it is not recognizing it either. The pad lights up when the pen touches it. So IDK. Very frustrating :(
I've used an Intuos 2 for ages. And man do I miss the upgrade cycle. That tablet looks gorgeous! Chose me, lucky #7!
Thanks
I have been using photoshop for about 4 years and I'm trying to get into graphics design and illustrations. It will be amazing if I get a tablet.
Do you have windows 10 on your MacBook?
will these hacks work for every drawing styluses?
Although I don't have a tablet, I find your videos always informative! I currently am a disabled below the knee amputee on a fixed income and would love to win a Wacom tablet. My hands and fingers have lost feeling and strength... at times (more often in the last few months) I have trouble feeling the mouse buttons so I think the tablet pen would help immensely. Anyhow, best wishes!
Do these hacks work on a wacom cintiq 27" QHD touch?
Tip number 3.....I have the same problem, but on a Mac. Any suggestions? Would be very much appreciated if anybody has had the same issue, and how to get rid of it. Thanks
I've always been a traditional artist but so ready to take it to the next level, thinking Wacom is the way forward for making that digital step!
Great tips Colon! I love my Wacom Intuos PRO tablet that I use at work. I would love one of my very own to have at home!
Thanks for the tutorial Colin.
I have the old Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and the upgrade would certainly be most welcome.
Great tips: I've been using the dodge and burn retouching for several years - it is just about one of the best tools to enhance an image.
Thanks for the tips, Colin. Especially the one that eliminated the Press and Hold cursor issue - it was driving me crazy!!!! Would like the Wacom 5 because I'm still on an old Wacom and would love to be able to have gestures!!!
does the intuos3 grip pen work with intuos pro tablet?
BOUGHT MY TABLET USE, AND IT HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS. LOVE TO HAVE A NEWER ONE,AND THANKS FOR YOUR TUTORIAL HAVE LEARNED A LOT...ED
As a high end retoucher Wacom tablets are essential to my work.
Thanks for the tips Colin!
I use the Cintiq 12WX, which is larger than a Intous but smaller than my monitor. So, I wasn't concerned about being able to trace well, but I didn't think about using my stencils as drawing guides. Dude 🤯 I am about to break out my stencils and have some fun with them.
Thanks a lot! Disabling the right click upon keeping the pen down was getting me frustrated. Glad that's gone now. You're a hero
Great tips! You can never have enough Wacom products. It's also effective to assign a hotkey to an action, then make that hotkey assigned to the eraser on you tablet settings. You can get a lot done by flicking your wrist ant tapping the eraser.
Dank je wel voor deze nuttige Wacom tablet tips. Wat zou ik dolblij zijn om voor Sinterklaas een nieuw tablet te ontvangen.
Just a beginner and would really like to have a Wacom Intuos Pro. Thanks for giving one away.
I'd love an Intuos tablet. My Bamboo is a little small now that I'm doing so much phot editing. Love the 5 tips, finally able to get rid of that annoying press and hold action in Windows 10
I need tablet to bring back my monster alive.
Question: can i set the button on the pen to "undo / backward" becaise intuos art dont have eraser. Thx
Thanks for the opportunity, Colin!
