At Last Nile says how brilliant Warren is…..
Thank you Nile and yes we all know JT and Warren just didn’t get on but man we owe Warren so much
We all love you Warren and to me you are right up there with the best guitarist and writers arrangers ever
Thank you from the people who seriously care about the bands music rather than their looks and fame. Duran Duran is a brilliant group of musicians and have a stack of truly beautiful albums under their wing. They deserve this series.
John Jones, such a witty and talented musician! DD can also thank him a lot on their comeback with TWA!
Wow! That’s really sad how Duran got so screwed and thrown away at the time. That Queen story is sad. Good on them for just persevering and never giving up!! What an inspiration!!! Love them so much!!! Fantastic job on this guys!!!! ❤️
I am happy I am not the only person who thinks Sin Of The City is one of Duran Duran best tracks.
Also To whome it may concern, love that..
Yes, that one has got a catchy chorus and they rock in the instrumental part. However, The Wedding Album as a whole is not amongst my favourites but still good.
It's in their top10 and it's got probably their best chorus alongside with that of "Vertigo"
It's their best track ever
Killer track. Nuff said !!!
Liberty is one of my favorite albums of all time.
"Simon can sing a telephone book" ❤🎉 👍 💕😘
Just wow. Never seen any documentary talking in depths about LIBERTY. I was so eager in the summer of 1990, 15 y.o., trying to get every magazine DD were mentioned in, hoping to catch something on television, but not much came and it was over so quickly. The band doesn't like talking about it, so it was such a pleasure to listen to everything John Jones had to say. Thank you for that!
I also remember those dry years afterwards when nothing seemed to happen. There was no media coverage, only Sunday Refugees and some other fan clubs providing information. Oh, and penpals from different parts of the world, discussing news and rumours.
When the rumour was spread that DD were part of that great Freddie Mercury tribute show I got all excited, and I so hated it in the end. But then "Ordinary World" came along and everything was over the top for some time again. It's all part of my teenage life. Thanks for reminding me of those years.
I am looking forward to the next part, as I love MEDAZZALAND.
Medazzaland is one of the best albums ever made by anyone.
This was their best LP , IMO, by far when it concerns DEPTH. It hits hard. Especially a few months later when Michael Hutchinsen(*sp) dies. Great D2 LP.
John Jones.. I love this guy!
Great docu 🙏
Also, Liberty is such an underrated Duran album. Love the behind the scenes on this!
I'd wager you mean to say underappreciated
one of my fav albums.
@@depecheddurand great name! Huge fan of Depeche and Duran too!
right. grunge kinda overran that Duran era, but 1/2 that album is golden. My antartica and 'along the waterway' , kick ass tunes.
Crap album actually.
Duran Duran have been producing amazing music that's wowed fans for over 40 years all the band and who have played with them ha🎸v🎤e oozed talent 🎤📸🎹🥁📸🎸📸🎹📸🎹🎤🥁📸🎸🎹🎤🥁📸🎸🎹
The liberty album deserves more attention for me as a duranie is a masterpiece.
the intro with First Impression set such a vibe, i absolutely love Liberty, possibly my most favourite album by the band. love their 90s period
I remember almost head banging to it live I just love it
one of the best in Liberty along with Serious and My Antarctica
I agree.
Out of all their music I've spent the most time listening to the Liberty album. It reaches so many ranges of emotion in me. It doesn't hold back or try to fit into anything. Very pure Duran, confident, without embarrassment, and still classy.
Sure Ordinary World is epic, but it's like a great movie you don't need to see twice in a row.
As where the songs on Liberty keep me coming back for another listen.
I rank "Can You Deal With It" near the top. The synth and guitar mesh so smooth behind that hard hitting beat. The pauses in the bass. The extremely confident vocals. Just spills of greatness.
It's too bad the 90s feared the 80s so much. Imagen if Liberty was praised, and DD continued in that direction without the grunge world seeping in.
But I guess the 90s had to happen, and I wouldn't change a thing.
I love all of DDs music but that Liberty album is...chef's kiss.
@victornunes1303 the video for Serious is a gem. One of my favorite, ever.
Liberty very underrated album In my opinion.
Wedding album
Great too.
Fantastic fella👏
I hope these docs go all the way to Astronaut
🤞
Recently seen the boys in Birmingham UK 5th May just gone
They were as always fantastic👏👏👏👏👏
Cant wait to hear the new stuff with AndyT I'm very excited
AndyT always has n always will be my favourite member, he rocks🎸 this band like no other.
And I'm 🙏 he's doing OK.
I've had my own battle with cancer n I'm doing OK.
Keep um coming
Please
👍
Guys these documentaries so far have been incredible. As a long time Duran Duran (hardcore) fan, they are superb!! So thank you!!
Nick mentioned he would like to re-record a deluxe version of liberty, would love to see that happen
Actually, I liked the Liberty album. “Serious” was a great track! It should have been a bigger hit!
Also Liberty was the least talked about album in the band’s discography so I’m grateful to hear JJ talk about it here. The producers were right. The times were against the band. It was all about Guns & Roses and grunge rock like Nirvana, Stone Temple and Pearl Jam.
Can’t wait till the next segment. Looking forward to hearing what the producers have to say about the “Thank You” album
Despite the title of the documentary, I hope the producers go up to the latest album, “Future Past”.
I disagree on one point you made... 'Liberty' isn't the least talked album.... There are two album that least talked about: "Medazzaland" & "Thank you"
@@AllenJohn With Medazzaland, they went on tour and did plenty of interviews. The same can’t be said of Liberty. They never went on tour promoting that album.
Dont think Ive heard Liberty but after hearing the producer’s enthusiasm makes me want to give it a try
@@waz3128I hope you have. It is such a great album.
Wow! This makes me happy ❤
This films are great. A totally different point of view of the traditional DD history. I hope you continue till the present moment. I’m really looking forward to seeing the next one!
Love you Warren!!!
This is an outstanding documentary.
For anyone who has not seen it, please watch the DD MTV Unplugged episode. If you need proof they are a GREAT band, that will do it.
Duran Duran av ad there ups and downs like any other band no bands perfect but I'll tell you now I was a die hard Duranie since Feb 1981 hearing planet earth 🌎🌍🌍 wow wow wow wow I fought this epic fantastic brilliant awesome band are going to be huge massive now I'm still era at 54 yrs old I was 12 years old in 1981 and I'm still a massive huge die hard Duranie I totally adore luv this band and omg omg omg I'm still buying still Duran Duran vinyls cd dvd Blu-ray t shirts you name it I've seen um 73 times live this band as been my heart ❤️🥰❤️ and soul they are still era selling records playing massive huge venues they are totally epic awesome amazing musicians 🎉🎉🎉so I'm going to say this thank you Duran Duran they are the best band on planet earth 🌎🌍🌎🎉🎉🎉wow wow wow wow wow bloody epic awesome 🤩🤩 go for it guys enjoy the world still needs you show um what you are made off 101 percent Duranie cheers 🥂🥂🥂 for everything 🎉🎉🎉 epic
I love liberty album it was just pure bad luck that it didn`t do well.
Best DD docu series, I've yet seen, music based, people who were there (despite Niles memory) and a great focus on the wilderness years. The thumbnails could be better. A lot better.
I had no idea DD and Queen were close.
And JJ, you are a DD Legend
Be epic to have you back on a DD album
Love this series!
Awesome work…some rare and precious footage there…thank you!
Great series, can't wait for the next episode.
Btw, Sin Of The City is a killer. I was 10 when that album came out and loved it and I still do! (and I still have the cassette)
Simon, Nick, and John should bring Warren back to Duran Duran again!
This is awesome, once again THANK YOU for this documentary 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I am loving this! Hearing a new perspective on things from this time period!
Fantastische Doku. Freue mich schon auf part 3. 👍
Thank you so much for this. Absolutely brilliant.
This was absolutely amazing, only one complaint...give Extreme a LOT of credit for what they did for the Freddie Mercury tribute! Would have been amazing to see what Duran would have done though as well. In fact, Extreme blew just about everyone of the stage that day.
This is an incredible documentary and I LOVE the video and pictures they have for this as well. Those could all be put into a book with these interviews and a blu ray of this.....
Another fantastic, detailed, fascinating insight to the way Duran Duran work and the impact of their producers. It's definitely a reciprocal relationship and this documentary has so much new information!
Can't wait for part 3 !!
Nice work. It’s certainly a vast improvement on the cliche productions of past years. If anybody was going to do a good job it would be Gerard Hynes - I enjoyed the commentary! 😉. Loved John Jones - knows what he’s talking about and how to get the very best out of a band that featured his side kick virtuoso Warren Cuccurullo. Whatever anybody thinks about Warren, he was their saviour at that time. Things couldn’t have gone more south for Duran Duran after the failure of Liberty. I was prevalent with promo during Liberty and The Wedding Album and I was fortunate to witness such a diverse period of time. I learned that success in the music industry is an overnight thing. An album cycle lasts 2 years if you’re lucky.
My only issue with this production is that I’m pretty certain a couple of my photos were used (without credit) at the Jerusalem For Reconciliation performance. Perhaps somebody can clarify? I need to check my negatives.
But, speaking from somebody who came on board as a fan / collector of Duran Duran in 1989 after listening to ‘Do You Believe in Shame?’ 1989 - 1993 is by far my favourite era of Duran Duran - no question.
Hi John, thanks for the feedback. I can confirm that not a single one of the press event photos or live shots used is yours! They were taken by Tracey and Aruni. Thanks, Carsten
@@FRPAPvision Thankyou for providing the full picture Carsten. I think it’s the position where I was sat - right in front of Simon and Nick’s box. The angle and obviously the near identical shots. Anyway, a great GREAT era for the band. A story of triumph over adversity!
This is epic! Well done 👏🏻
Once again, you're killing it mate!!! Great documentary, so many information Thanks
Well done documentary. The 90’s were like fire and ice for the group. The reunion brought back the sound I grew up with and love.
Thank you for this great documentary. It’s been fascinating.
Brilliant - Aruni x
tHANKS SO SO MUCH FOR THIS!!
Thank you Carsten!
Fantastic!! Thank you!!
Really enjoy watching this!
As a major fan, I'm sorry to say that "Liberty" was the only Duran album that I almost regretted buying.I have it because of my fandom, but it was a LOW point.
Tiene temas buenos.
Sólo faltó un buen productor.
Thank you! ❤
"$ 5,99 + TAX" ...wow!... what an amazing documentary...love love love it...and for free?! Yo Bad Azizi, this is nuclear war!!!!
Me encanta ❤
Great stuff J.K
Great
Amazing part 2!!!
WHEN DO WE GET PART 3, I'M DYING TO SEE IT PLEASE.
still rock🤘🏻
Love Voodoo
34:39 So much untapped potentail in the "Duran vault"
When is part 3 coming out ?
❤🥰
I "love" the stupid anachronisms in the musicians memories. In 1989 Nirvana was an unknown cult band and could not be guilty on DD`s demise. And I remember the early 90s well, there were dozens of musical styles around not only "grunge" (nobody used this word those days) and Nirvana.
11:47 Wha whaaaat? Nile 😂😂 Chic? They loved those records and it influenced JT big time.
As much as I love the guys, I feel like Warren hasn't ever really gotten his flowers! He and Nile saved DD! Imo
Too Much information wasn't the best choice for a 3rd single and once it didn't hit the labeled pulled out on the album. Why? There were a few more singles there for sure. Saw them on the tour and was entertaining, great despite some off musical choices (Wolf trading synths for violins?) 😮😮
Toda la razón. Me encantaba Sin Of The City podría haber sido un tercer sencillo. TIENE UNA FUERZA DESCOMUNAL.
Program drums😢 they turn into a Music machine band after 2 original members left sad story downhill from there for sure
My fellow Duran Duran friends and I agree that the problem with "Liberty" is #1) the weak lead single "Violence Of Summer." We think "Serious" would have been a more riveting choice, and #2) they didn't tour for that album so it basically got overlooked.
I was an early DD fan, was crazy about Seven And The Ragged Tiger, crazy about Wild Boys. No so much crazy about Notorious, but I still liked it. I loved some songs on Big Thing too. But Liberty is where they completely lost me. It's not because the music was changing at the time, or because of grunge or whatever they said. It was because this album WAS different. I still feel embarassed to this day each time I listen to Violence Of Summer, I cringe. I'm sorry. I couldn't get into that Liberty album at all. So I understood the critics. They hit them hard, harder than they should maybe but they were right. They jumped the shark there. Thankfully, they return from grace after that with the wedding album and I was crazy again about them and Come Undone (one of my favorite DD song ever).
Tienes toda la razón. LIBERTY, DE QUÉ??? ES COMO TRATAR DE SALIR DEL ARMARIO Y DESPUÉS VOLVER A ENTRAR. NO TIENE CONSISTENCIA.
Nile Rodgers is a good musician, and a really good producer; but he takes waaaaaay too much credit for Duran Duran’s success. They had already conquered the world before you even met them… Relax chap.
So glad they worked with Giorgio Moroder recently but would love to hear what a Trevor Horn produced album sounded like!
Timbaland / Justin Timberlake were terrible choices and resulting albums.
The music bed on these is really annoying.
Added it just for you.
Lady talking about what "we were" all about in the 90s, grunge and not Melody, Etc doesn't know what she's talking about
Actually, she was dead-on about the music of that time period.
@netrage actually, as someone who was in the music business at the time, grunge was very much filled with melodies! Abba mixed with Sex Pistols was Nirvana's mantra. Remember? So, no
@@netrage .
If you freeze on the top 10 chart where they show Ordinary World at no. 4 there wasn’t a single Grunge band on it. 2 Whitney Houston songs, A Whole New World and a Prince song. Its a myth that the early 90s was dominated by grunge and dissonant rock music. I just started high school in 93 and I have horrible vivid memories of being subjected to stuff like ‘Mr Loverman’ by Shabba Ranks and ‘Would I lie to you’ by Charles and Eddie at our dance parties. NOT Smells Like Teen Spirit
She’s actually very knowledgeable on this and also happens to be right.
