Couple things to note about this video: if I sound different I was sick while recording this At this part of the video 5:18 the spotlight was supposed to be on shadow and it showed it clearly fine in the editing so not sure what happened here but oh well.
I loved virtually everything about this game, especially the main stages. My biggest fear is it that the reason they go so hard is because there are only 12 of them (not counting bosses) and so they were able to put all their time and focus into just a small collection of levels. Really hoping that the quality won't diminish when it comes to future games that have heaps more stages.
There is actually certain things about Doom Morph that straight up weren't explained in the tutorial such as how to gain extra height and stuff. There's a great video by Stickman Guides on this topic.
No they can’t they are gonna start removing guns and some stupid censoring like wtf Sonic used to appeal to all ages even older fans I don’t understand why they make everything for wimps now
My genuine only complaint about Shadow Generations is I think the game needed one more zone. As it stands, each zone serves as a tutorial for one of shadow's abilities (Ark: Chaos Control, Rail Canyon: Doom Spear, Kingdom Valley: Doom Surf, Sunset Heights: Doom Blast, Chaos Island: Doom Morph, Radical Highway: Doom Wing). I think the game really could have benefitted from having one more zone where no new ability is introduced and instead expects you to make clever use of all the abilities, or maybe have branching paths that require you to use different abilities. Like maybe one path puts you in Doom Surf while the other way gives you Doom Morph. Something like that.
After playing this I've had to reconsider how we classify Sonic games. 1. Boost based speed games: Unleashed, Colours, Sonic Generations and Forces. 2. Boost based Adventure games: Lost World, Frontiers, Dream Team and Shadow generations. 3. Momentum based Adventure games: SA1, SA2, Heroes, Shadow 05 & Sonic 06. 4. Momentum based speed games: We've never had one but if we had one it'd play like Sonic GT, Sonic Encore and Sonic Utopia. Of course it's not the end all but I think this Boost-Adventure hybrid is a clearer direction on where we're going as a franchise.
If we get a future boost game, I'd be glad if feels like this since we've been saying Unleashed/Gens Sonic feels stiff but it wasn’t too jarring since some levels are linear amd boost heavy. But for expanded levels like Seaside Hill and Sky Sanctuary, id highly prefer playing with Shadow Generations movement. I also wonder what re release is next since Sonic Team really only mention Colors and Generations reception. Unleashed? New Voice Acting? Idk
i think its being very overhyped due to it still being the honeymoon phase of the game, but its still good. if they use this type of movement and level design in frontiers 2 or whatever the next mainline game is, i will not complain.
Dawg a whole week has passed and it’s perfectly rated right now at a solid 8 or 9/10. Personally, I think it’s a 9 and it’s better than Base Generations mostly because of the bosses being overall better, levels like Kingdom Valley and Radical Highway have better 3D Acts than Most of Base Gens, the gameplay feels more fluid especially in Kingdom Valley and the Story/Cutscenes are PEA. Not a single critic complained about it and the only flaws that I’ve heard from most fans or Sonic RUclipsrs is that Sunset Heights was just Ok which I agree and the instructions for the Doom Morph could have been clearer which is also facts. I do agree that they should use this type of movement for Frontiers 2 and make the islands a similar size to the hub worlds in Shadow Gens.
I haven’t beat the last two levels yet bc I’m trying to get good times in the first three. But this game is so fucking good. Even the 2d parts are really amazing imo
Ok hear me out but the something about the main title screens feel low budget or rather lack of effort. They really need a reward system for earning boost. The Rush boost system was perfect, though it might not suit every game. Unleashed SD had a good system too.
I was pleased to find out that Black Doom’s return was not due to Eggman and the Time Eater. But I wish they had the collectibles on the map, because I have two rocket pieces and 5 chests do find and I can’t find them for the life of me.
Nice review. I got confused about the handling of Doom Morph at first, too. Like most people, probably. But I figured it out quickly. If you keep the button pressed, Shadow will automatically disconnect at the end of a swing, which moves you mainly horizontally. If you want to go upward, be it straight up vertically, or diagonally, you simply need to release the button earlier. The line between Shadow and the anchor point acts like a slingshot and launches you into the direction it points at when you release the button. So, if you want to launch vertically upwards, you need to release the button while Shadow is exactly below the anchor point.
I have no idea why people thought this was gonna be a "forces" game and not a fronteirs game.. like why wouldn't they continue to use this formula when it brought them success???
@JaydenXV I haven't played it so I couldn't say anything about shadow, but from what gameplay I've seen from shadow and what I've played from frontiers, they look pretty similar but ig it could just be me 😭
Doom Morph biggest problem is that there is a lot of points where you need to use it to fling upwards but to homing attack you need to look up and the camera doesn’t go higher than 45 degrees making getting a lock on really annoying.
Yeah I think they should've added more to Sonic Gen. from all the mods that have been done from the past 10 years. Kinda disappointing how everything looks the same as the old PC.
Worth it. And I'm not even gonna watch any of this video for even implying otherwise. (Comment for the algorithm though I'm just tired of hearing the weird nit-picks so I'm judging these videos by the title now).
forces ruined a lot of sonic discussion. people were WAY too quick to pin the super short gameplay footage as “forces level design” despite there being barely any footage. it wouldn’t make sense for them to go that direction for level design anyway, considering it was tied to generations. seeing the effects of forces ptsd is crazy
Yeah something I could have added to explain that further was the forces producer and also the director of 06 had a big part in this game. For me personally his track record had me worried and things he has gone on record saying about his design philosophy.
@@JaydenXV oh yeah that’s totally understandable. i’m not saying i disagree or anything, the concern is valid, but i feel like the level design has been on a pretty good track record since forces. frontiers obviously reused a lot of the gens levels, but the original levels they did were decently fun too. idk, i guess time will tell whether or not this is going to be the status quo from now on lol
