I see his badass-ness as something he should regularly be able to utilize and display, but his kind and well-meaning nature, to me, is far more at the core of his character than his arrogance/cockiness or his get-out-of-my-way-or-else attitude. Especially since we already have more than one character in this franchise who fit that archetype. debuted in 06 yet was only good in 06, almost like he clearly doesnt work in a story for 5 years old unless they reduce the bad guy's braincells or his own its been 2 decades brother let it go 💀u not funny. without 06's more serious tone ssilver would've been SOO much worse. as proven by pretty much everything he appears in after
I thought it was the time machine that they used repeatedly in 06. The one that everybody types their intended time and location into before the next action stage and travelling through time at the end of the level via the exit ring and/or Chaos control. They don't explicitly state it, but the rings are used throughout the series to access extradimensional space, so the teleportation and time travel technologies from the later games are probably working on that principle.
Silver’s optimism is unmatched, to the point he’ll break the odds and work his way around it. A moment in Sonic’06: Everyone: “Sonic is dead, we’ve lost. You cant bring someone back from the dead. 😔 The world is distorted. Mephiles won…” Silver of all people: “. . . . . No! There HAS to be another way! 💫🫵✨!!” (Which is why Silver saying “i’m an optimist, but i’m also a realist” in Sonic Forces was the stupidest thing the writers ever made Silver say)
Fantastic video. I had read all of Silvers arc up to the Enerjak fight, so I had no idea about the Secret Freedom Fighters. It makes so much sense for his character that he would constantly seek the humility in others even Geoffrey LOL. And I think his perspective makes him one of the easiest characters to connect to on a personal level. I always found his connection to Mammoth Mogul particularly interesting too, since it follows through on a promise he made to Sonic in an earlier issue. Something like "I don’t have to defeat you, I just have to OUTLIVE you." Turns out his immortality in that pursuit was a curse, and eventually him turn into a compelling character through Silver. This era of the comic was SOO GOOD with setup and payoff 😭
The SU Silver Arc was really cathartic for longtime fans, not just for all that Silver development and the wrapping up of all those Dark Mobius plot-lines that made no sense back in the day, but also because it was secretly an indirect finale to Ian Flynn's old edgy fan comic Other M, heh. It was cool to see so much stuff that most people wouldn't care about get such a neat bookend to it in that arc, and have it contribute to Silver's growth on top of it all. Great arc~
fun fact for today is that silver actually did try to kill the iblis trigger. it's been confirmed that a version of 06 happened before he started searching for a traitor. that's why soleanna was introduced and retconned to be the second hidden human city.
I love Silver as a character, and I remember freaking out when he first showed up in the comics. I'll also say I LOVED his portrayal in the pre-reboot comics.
The Silver Saga is the first Archie story I read. I had no clue what was going on, or who Silver even was. But I really liked it. Now, years later, as a fan of Archie and the Sonic series in general, I can say that Silver is one of my favorite characters. And Archie plays a big role in that. The scene where he talks to Geoffrey nearly made me cry.
Yes, yes, YES!! I will always stand by this, especially in comparison to IDW Silver. Don’t get me wrong, he’s fine, but Archie Silver is so strong he took down ENERJAK of all people. That’s IMMEASURABLE. All whilst Silver has that attitude to him, he knows what he’s capable of. GOD I love Archie Silver
Little correction: Silver didn't really took Enerjak down by himself. However he played a big role in it. Luring Enerjak to get physical at him, just for Enerjak to get in range of his cryptonide, the sword of acorns. But yeah, other than that, i agree.
Like others said, Silver defeating Dark Enerjak was less strength and more strategy. He turned Dark Enerjak's attacks back at him, as he was ironically the only person strong enough to hurt him.
Winning fights is not always about overpowering your opponent but doing what’s needed to win. Silver did exactly that. Regardless of if it was his own power or redirecting is his opponents, Silver won that fight.
I love Silver The Hedgehog. When I learned that could see more of him in the Arhie Comics, I was so ecstatic. After I've read the comics with him featured in it, whether it's a minor feature and a full feature like Sonic Universe, I just became a Silver Fanatic. Silver The Hedgehog reminds me so much of myself. He's EXTREMELY MISUNDERSTOOD! By people in the real world (Sonic fans) and by the people in his world (like the people he meets whenever goes back in the past. 9 times out of 10, Silver's intentions are good. He tries to do the right thing, but he messus up sometimes, all due to a lack of understanding or misjusgement. And he can get inside his head and become cocky, like you said... a little too cocky like SSJ2 Teen Gohan when he faced Cell the first round and failed to destroy him because he ignored his father's instruction. Despite that, he gets back up, dusts the dirt off of him, and keeps pushing to continue to do the right thing. This is why I want him to have a solo game and start being featured more (be playable) in future Sonic Games. I'm a bit selfish because I sometimes want to gatekeep Silver The Hedgehog and his beautiful character and story, but I really want this underrated character to get recognized the way he should've been a LONG time ago! So I'm glad Silver is getting recognized more by videos like these and so on. Awesome video, man.
We get to see Silver change and grow as hero and a character. So much of his history in Archie reflects that of his debut in 06. Ironically, even the reset of the timeline just as he succeeds. Still, it’s that growth and compassion Silver has that makes him my favorite character. As for in IDW, all that already happened for Silver. With being canon to games, thus limiting what they can do, Silver has grown bonds and made so many friends, which he points out he didn’t have before. So that seriousness he use to have is no longer necessary. He’s not fighting alone anymore, and has the opportunity to enjoy the world. Though because he fights with a group, it makes it more difficult to show off what he can do. Silver still gets some pretty cool moments, like being the key to ending the Metal Virus or freeing Shadow from the emerald prison. But it can still be overshadowed by the group effort. It’s not entirely the writers’ faults, though I admit I was not happy with spring special, but SEGA themselves saying what they can and can’t do with him. I remember reading recently that Evan Stanley hasn’t been that happy with how she’s written Silver, who is her favorite character, and hopes to do better going forward.
Sonic lives in the present going with the flow, Shadow is leeched on by the past and what led to his creation, Silver on his side only cares about what the future could be
I remember getting the silver vs enerjak issue at a library when i was younger. I remember reading it all the time at school, while everyone was at recess having fun and building relationships or whatever like losers i stayed in the classroom alone and read the issue over and over along with my archie sonic speed of sound collection and my ultimate sonic guide book. I ended up losing all of them
I love how for Silver's Storyline within this comic is a Meta Narrative like Knuckles' was. He didn't care about the world he was tied to and learns to embrace it. Jeffery St. John getting some humanization was something he desperately needed.
Sonic Universe Vol 7 was actually my first sonic comic (outside of an issue of Vol 8 I had lying around), and man did that give me an insane first impression of Silver
I really relate to Silver and I sadly I never got to read the Archie comics growing up. But watching this, has made me want to buy all the ones that Silver is in and watch him grow. His kindness is why he is my favourite sonic character, I just hope saga give him a better treatment in future games.
your video essays are always so in-depth and poignant, and following all your archie sonic comic essays while working has made me check out the series itself ... i really enjoy how you compare and examine this huge franchise cast in this run, especially silver (and your archie knuckles video is one of my favorite character examinations ever), because you have a really good eye for outlining character archetypes and behaviors. thank you for always making such good video essays!
this is what made me love Silver, I love his kinda short fuse and how he can get fed up pretty quickly, I think it helps make him stand out, I also love how much it shows that he stands for breaking the odds, he doesn't give a shit if it's impossible if you don't give him any answers he's gonna make you do 500 360 spins in the air until you do or if you try to beat him down he's never gonna stop getting back up because it's no use isn't a phrase in his dialect, he always thinks there's a way and I love that
Because he's an adorkable powerhouse you just can't help but love like a son (just me on that last part? okay..). Now let's hear the long version of the answer.
So glad to see some Archie Silver love! I remember liking him okay in his 06 debut, but I absolutely fell in love with his character in the Archie comics, watching him grow (and absolutely WRECK SHIT with his powers) but like you said, the way he develops and the way his arc ends RIGHT before the gen wave was excellent, though i wish we could've seen it truly come to a conclusion. Either way, what we did get was so freaking good, and I'll cherish it forever 😂 great vid!
I love how there was another person who taught silver a lesson in battle and that person was espio he taught silver a important lesson about his loved ones and not to keep doubting himself
Silver refuses to cease existence because the past was altered. thats a mad skill insane even. dude just *always exists* He just always exists.. iirc in one contuity it was stated he was decoupled from time itself due to his rampant time travelling. A concept sonic media hasnt brought up since 06 is the fact shadow does not age and likely will survive till silver's time like if they dont shove him in a cage it could be utterly fascinating.
The comics nailed the fact that he's young and "naive" as Blaze puts it. His morality & resolve are solid, no doubt about it. It's just that he has jumped to conclusions before knowing all the facts. This is his naivety. With time travel being a factor, and how facts can be skewed from historical accounts, it's no wonder he can screw up the larger picture. But it only stems from his entire life being hard to live in, thus fueling his resolve to do good at all times. Which is why when he's presented with exclusive information he didn't have before, his drive shifts toward that thing because he's a good guy & wants to be on the side of good. He can't do that by wanting to be right.
This is a great analysis of Archie Silver who is one of my favorite characters in this continuity because of his fights, story, and development; even though it might have contradicted his development,I think Silver should have stood up for himself against Sonic while also accepting himself in the wrong because Sonic could only see from a limited perspective on why Silver was fighting for and if they could at least have a conversation and Silver getting the chance to discuss what his future is like and what his mission means to him, I feel like it would have been a satisfying interaction even if Sonic is still annoyed by him. I think it is great that in the IDW comics we get to see a Silver that is trying to find his identity and purpose without a crisis which feels like a contrast to Archie Silver but I would say both of them succeed in developing Silver in these situations.
This is an excellent arc! I hope that if they ever do a Silver Generations game, then I feel this can be what they do with it! More people need to learn how communication is sometimes the best way to succeed.
People have to realize Silver is a chrarcter who can litteraly tear the main cast into shreds using his telekenesis. Telekenesis is incredibly op if the enemy doesnt have it.
While I wouldn’t say Archie Silver is the best version of Silver (I much prefer him being less confident & unsure of himself & his choices (in contrast to Sonic & Shadow) and I wish the Archie Comics did more with his relationships with other characters like Blaze or Espio (something IDW is doing well so far)) I do really like what they did with Archie Silver & how complete this version of the character’s arc is. His growing confidence & him learning more & more as the comic went on, is really great to see
FIRST, EXCELLENT VIDEO, these videos made me interested in ARCHIE SONIC, it's a shame all the characters and stories we lost due to the cancellation, at least these videos are a way to keep them alive SECOND, is there any official information about SILVER's past, what is his origin, why does he have those powers, was he born that way or did he get his powers from an external source or should we believe that he is the same as Sonic (an anthropomorphic hedgehog who manifested powers out of nowhere)?
Man, the Silver Saga arc is one of the Archie Sonic arcs that sticks in my mind the most, it's unbelievably good. Been waiting for this video ever since this series started lol
I'm so glad that you did this video. This comic book, which of course is an Enerjak story, so it automatically became my favorite story, as well as placing Dark Enerjak as my favorite Enerjak incarnation, but also made Silver one of my favorite characters in both the comics and the games. I love the lessons Silver learned and also learning to using his opponents power against them since he lacked the strength to do any true damage himself.
For all the drama and insanity, that he who shall not be named did to the Sonic Archie Comics, these are the reasons this comic should never be forgotten. To this day I still feel that some of the character stories of Archie Sonic are canon to the over all story of the Sonic franchise. And, in my heart I still believe the Freedom Fighters that we lost still live on in that world.
Thank you for making a video of Archie Silver there’s not enough videos of the legendary telekinetic hedgehog 🦔 he’s awesome the Archie comics did a great job with the expressions of the characters.
make the skunk episode already, I want to see your take on guy who was somehow redeemed and became likeable by fully embracing the hate and becoming even worse. He is truly the most polarizing yet endearing character in Sonic lore.
Still wished the video talked about a good part of why he's so great is that he's such a lovable dork compared to his games counterpart, wish also there would have been more comparing to his game counterpart to see why he truly is the best Silver even if I already agree with you. "Did you really just hit me with an ISLAND?"-best line ever!
I mean, in the game’s defense, he hasn’t been given much room to shine and even though he was present for forces, I won’t consider that game canon. Maybe they’ll add the Archie depth silver has into the future games
I love idw and have never really been into Archie before finding your videos but I always love watching them they give me so much appreciation for Archie and why people love it . [ Tue 9:32am 10/29/2024 ]
YES this is a fantastic video silver is my favorite sonic character (well other than shard) and archie silver has always been the best iteration of him in my opinion, genuinely just really interesting with a complete character arc and without being bogged down by the plotline weirdness of 06
I have never clicked on a video this fast. Silver is one of my favorite characters in the Sonic franchise and ARCHIE is why!!! So excited to see what you think!
Silver is a character with so much potential in IDW to be great. If they would just take a leaf out of Archie's book, he'd surely become the favorite of many more- not to say he's not already popular, but his characterization is controversial nowadays.
If I was introduced to Silver in 06 like most people, I probably wouldn't care for him as much as I do now, but the comics made him so badass and made me go "yeah this is my dude". His base form is literally then Super Sonic
Silver has been my one of my favorite Sonic characters for about a decade, and I'm glad to know there was/is more to him than just an ignorant child with a good heart. That's what I call GROWTH
Archie Silver is the best because he still had the edge and seriousness of 06 Silver + the extra development that comes from being the main character of a comic, while not being influenced by the defanged goofball he is today.
It’s hard to say that I have a favorite character out of the hedgehog trio. I personally love each character for different characters. Sonic is the puzzle piece that lets other characters change for the better, he is the foundation of each character’s character growth. He lets other characters change in exchange that he stays the same. Shadow is a “what if” of Sonic, who although is more independent and badass (not to be compared with cool), has a great story and heart wrenching backstory that proves why he acts like the way he is. He is complex, his change leading many people to love him. And Silver is the character who, although is naive at times, and could be a little rough, is shown to be selfless wanting to save his future and save the innocent lives that have been killed. Even in the games, you could see his kindness with Amy when he didn’t realize she knew Sonic. They all are fantastic in their own right. And for me, I seriously can’t pick which one. But, I’m so glad to know how well Silver is treated in the Archie comics, as well in the IDW comics.
I mean, common knowledge. We talking about a version of Silver that harnessed the true potential of chaos energy by the same creature that first created it.
Silver may not have a past... ...but he has a bright future in new generation of diamond shine, all realities considered... Sonic either dies fighting for freedom, or lives long enough to become a kingslayer of gods. Shadow is blast from the past of Maria's wish immortalised ...and Blaze is an sole example in learning spice of life & living proof parallel dimensions even exist.
I don’t know that much about Arichie silver so my current favourite is IDW I feel like 06 silver has too bland a personality and while Idw silver doesn’t have much of an ark he’s certainly fun to watch and genuinely has The traits I like about silver

They dont call him Potential Man for no reason 😂
Silver has so much untapped potential in both story and gameplay. Unfortunately, he just had to debut in Sonic '06.
IDC what anyone says, Sonic Rivals, 06 AND Archie are best Silvers
06 has so much potential that had to be fixed by fans
debuted in 06 yet was only good in 06, almost like he clearly doesnt work in a story for 5 years old unless they reduce the bad guy's braincells or his own
its been 2 decades brother let it go 💀u not funny. without 06's more serious tone ssilver would've been SOO much worse. as proven by pretty much everything he appears in after
@@knuckson8304 this is the most pathetic attempt at bait I’ve ever read. PLEASE work on your comprehension
I wish Silver using a time stone was bought into a games since we don’t know how game Silver goes back in time
I thought it was the time machine that they used repeatedly in 06.
@@casanovafunkenstein5090that or they use the chaos emeralds to open time portals like we see happen multiple times in Sonic 06
Silver’s optimism is unmatched, to the point he’ll break the odds and work his way around it.
A moment in Sonic’06:
Everyone: “Sonic is dead, we’ve lost. You cant bring someone back from the dead. 😔
The world is distorted. Mephiles won…”
Silver of all people:
“. . . . . No! There HAS to be another way! 💫🫵✨!!”
(Which is why Silver saying “i’m an optimist, but i’m also a realist” in Sonic Forces was the stupidest thing the writers ever made Silver say)
Cool
Love that the team took advantage of Silver being from the future to *also* flesh out Mogul
Agreed
I like the cute detail of Sonics window at 14:07 looking like the emblem in some of the Classic title screens
Good ol’ Silver “IT’S NO USE” Hedgehog is here again.
I swear I will eat you shut it
I love Silver as a character, and I remember freaking out when he first showed up in the comics.
Silver one of the best hedgehogs in the franchise fr
@@theoguncleslappy9150 He's my third favorite character.
0:23 oh my God
Finally. A video on silver. Thanks for doing this
Yes, yes, YES!!
He’s not strong enough to beat Enerjak. He was able to redirect Enerjak’s own attacks back at him. That fight was more strategy plus hax beats power.
Sonic lives in the present going with the flow,
Shadow is leeched on by the past and what led to his creation,
Silver on his side only cares about what the future could be
There are not much Silver videos on RUclips so I was so glad when I saw this. Thanks for the video.
I ended up losing all of them
5:27 DANG IT! sounded like silver
0:21 The way Silver’s Rival Battle theme from Sonic Gens kicks in just sends chills every time I rewind back to here.
I really relate to Silver and I sadly I never got to read the Archie comics growing up. But watching this, has made me want to buy all the ones that Silver is in and watch him grow. His kindness is why he is my favourite sonic character, I just hope saga give him a better treatment in future games.
your video essays are always so in-depth and poignant, and following all your archie sonic comic essays while working has made me check out the series itself ... i really enjoy how you compare and examine this huge franchise cast in this run, especially silver (and your archie knuckles video is one of my favorite character examinations ever), because you have a really good eye for outlining character archetypes and behaviors. thank you for always making such good video essays!
this is what made me love Silver, I love his kinda short fuse and how he can get fed up pretty quickly, I think it helps make him stand out, I also love how much it shows that he stands for breaking the odds, he doesn't give a shit if it's impossible if you don't give him any answers he's gonna make you do 500 360 spins in the air until you do or if you try to beat him down he's never gonna stop getting back up because it's no use isn't a phrase in his dialect, he always thinks there's a way and I love that
I like your comment about Silver having a short fuse impossible isn’t in Silvers vocabulary.
Because he's an adorkable powerhouse you just can't help but love like a son (just me on that last part? okay..).
Now let's hear the long version of the answer.
Not just you on that last part
So glad to see some Archie Silver love! I remember liking him okay in his 06 debut, but I absolutely fell in love with his character in the Archie comics, watching him grow (and absolutely WRECK SHIT with his powers) but like you said, the way he develops and the way his arc ends RIGHT before the gen wave was excellent, though i wish we could've seen it truly come to a conclusion. Either way, what we did get was so freaking good, and I'll cherish it forever 😂 great vid!
Cant even try and hide my excitement when I read how badly Silver was looking to fade with Enerjak. Man heard he was a God and said "So what?"
Ok but that read at the beginning is COLD, that sounds SO good. Great job with that.
I love how there was another person who taught silver a lesson in battle and that person was espio he taught silver a important lesson about his loved ones and not to keep doubting himself
I love this so muchhhhh omg . Silver is such a great character ..Your Sonic videos are the best dude
I cried to this whilst barely even knowing what an archie comic is, damn i need more of these videos
Man i remember Silvers little arc in Sonic Universe as the comics were coming out, absolute peak fiction.
Silver refuses to cease existence because the past was altered. thats a mad skill insane even. dude just *always exists*
He just always exists.. iirc in one contuity it was stated he was decoupled from time itself due to his rampant time travelling.
A concept sonic media hasnt brought up since 06 is the fact shadow does not age and likely will survive till silver's time like if they dont shove him in a cage it could be utterly fascinating.
Silver having a giant power boost and being very dangerous like Anakin Skywalker is extremely scary.
This arc made Mogul one of my favorite Archie characters of all time. A shame he’s gone forever.
Wasn't he evil, waiting for Sonic to die of old age before he takes over the world
@@StrangestDetriment08..- Yeah, but farther in the future he learns that he was wrong and tries to help Silver save the past.
Silver's journey in the comic's is truly one that shows his growth as a character an i love it, he has truly grown as a hero!!
Oh hell yeah. Been waiting on another Archie Sonic vid for a while. Been rewatching the 9 hour one a few times. Keep up the great work man!
THE most underrated character of all time I swear.
Bro thank you SO much for this video!
god your videos make me feel so vindicated for my love of archie sonic, consistently dropping these banger essays on why this comic is sooooo dope
I'm glad archie is getting love after all these years, archie has my fav versions of the game characters with original characters that my fav
His growing confidence & him learning more & more as the comic went on, is really great to see
I have been WAITING for this video
As always, perfect
FIRST, EXCELLENT VIDEO, these videos made me interested in ARCHIE SONIC, it's a shame all the characters and stories we lost due to the cancellation, at least these videos are a way to keep them alive
SECOND, is there any official information about SILVER's past, what is his origin, why does he have those powers, was he born that way or did he get his powers from an external source or should we believe that he is the same as Sonic (an anthropomorphic hedgehog who manifested powers out of nowhere)?
NEW LOWART ARCHIE VIDEO FINALLY
Man, the Silver Saga arc is one of the Archie Sonic arcs that sticks in my mind the most, it's unbelievably good. Been waiting for this video ever since this series started lol
I'm so glad that you did this video.
This comic book, which of course is an Enerjak story, so it automatically became my favorite story, as well as placing Dark Enerjak as my favorite Enerjak incarnation, but also made Silver one of my favorite characters in both the comics and the games. I love the lessons Silver learned and also learning to using his opponents power against them since he lacked the strength to do any true damage himself.
Cant wait for more content!
Cinematic intro goes hard
Defeating Enerjak in his base form is no easy feat.
Awesome video as always. Very nice to revisit my favorite characters through your positive analysis.👍
Thank you for making a video of Archie Silver there’s not enough videos of the legendary telekinetic hedgehog 🦔 he’s awesome the Archie comics did a great job with the expressions of the characters.
Shadow fights because he has nothing left to lose, Sonic fights to protect what he has, Silver fights to save the future he never had
You've given me a new perspective on my favorite character. Thank you.
make the skunk episode already, I want to see your take on guy who was somehow redeemed and became likeable by fully embracing the hate and becoming even worse. He is truly the most polarizing yet endearing character in Sonic lore.
I hope you cover the Archie Mega Man comics, because they were so good, and it hurt to see it get canceled.
I would've LOVED to see Quick Man take on Sonic Man and react to M'Egga Man. Damn character pride.
Silver is my favorite character and I'm tired of people telling me he's a bad one
this was beautiful man ❤
I love idw and have never really been into Archie before finding your videos but I always love watching them they give me so much appreciation for Archie and why people love it

I loved the archie silver story with the soul controlling villian guy, it had one or two of them and they were so fun and cool.
YES this is a fantastic video silver is my favorite sonic character (well other than shard) and archie silver has always been the best iteration of him in my opinion, genuinely just really interesting with a complete character arc and without being bogged down by the plotline weirdness of 06
Lowart TYSM u released this on my birthday thanks for the birthday gift!
3:23 “Scourge, shut the flip up”
I have never clicked on a video this fast. Silver is one of my favorite characters in the Sonic franchise and ARCHIE is why!!! So excited to see what you think!
Fire as always
I wish Silver using a Time Stone was used in the games since we don’t know how Silver goes back in the games
I always suspected that's what he used after the events of 06
Fantastic videos as always
Look. I despise Ken and what he did to Archie, but this? This brought a tear to my eye.
Shadow is blast from the past of Maria's wish immortalised
...and Blaze is an sole example in learning spice of life & living proof parallel dimensions even exist.
I don’t know that much about Arichie silver so my current favourite is IDW
I feel like 06 silver has too bland a personality and while Idw silver doesn’t have much of an ark he’s certainly fun to watch and genuinely has The traits I like about silver
I really enjoyed this breakdown. Thank you!
hey we got dreams of an absolution in the sonic symphony though... thats..... cool....
FUCK YES!!!!!
THANK YOU LOWART
I WILL TREASURE THIS VIDEO FOREVER
