I just completed the Mahjarrat Memories miniquest for the first time and was slammed with all the lore of this video and the next. You did a fantastic job putting it all together!
Best Runescape channel for me right now. I love hearing great voices tell me mysterious stories. You do so with my favorite game. I literally couldn't ask for anything more besides even more content.
I've always dismissed the gods as being just in the background, but my god (no pun intended) I've definitely been missing out. Zaros sounds so dynamic, with a rich, complex and engaging story (can't wait for part 2!), and that's undoubtedly due to your presentation; completely like a storybook, and very easy to understand even to someone who knows nothing about Runescape lore like me because I skip all quest dialogue (and quests in general, but that's a different thing =D ).
yea a lot of this story is from things not even told in quest dialogue. It's from pretty obscure sources so I wouldn't blame people for not knowing anything about it.
I hope OSRS doesn't change Zaros lore too much. It's already a big deviation that the Frostenhorn has been destroyed by Sliske. Wonder what the dev team has in mind.
Zaros always has been my favourite god, only other I slightly like is Guthix. I really enjoy how quests in RuneScape are more than just "get me x of that"-type assignments.
You like Guthix, the god who shirked his responsibilities by choosing to sleep all day, and then waking up and blaming everyone else for a problem he could have prevented from happening to begin with?
The reason I admire Zaros' character so much is because he reminds me of myself. In my life, I have been the spiritual leader and guide for many people. Just like Zaros, I seek balance in one's self. I have several students who I have taken care of and helped to uplift, and I am now spreading my ideology of balance to the rest of those who are around me. I have made many mistakes and done many things I am certainly not proud of. But, that should not deter me from doing my best to improve, as well as help others who are making those same mistakes improve. I have started my project of spreading balance through my talk show, where I give everyone relationship advice. But that is not the only thing I seek to accomplish in this life, and hopefully I will be able to do so soon. But that is just my take on Zaros and why I prefer him over the others
@@Avrah a lot of my students also see it as well. When I introduced them to Runescape lore, they told me that Zaros reminds them of me. Certainly a compliment in my book
I liked Zaros right up until he fucked off to the shadow realm. When we first met him, he seemed like the only god who actually had a plan for dealing with the Elder Gods. He saw the big picture while all the other gods were having their dick measuring contests. Of course, Seren pointed out that his plan really just boiled down to "become more powerful." But then Jas straight up told him "You ain't shit," and he stormed off. And I started to see a pattern in his behavior: 1. Fuck around 2. Make a mess 3. Leave it for someone else to clean up He did it with Mah, draining her life force to the point where Seren had to kill her just to put her out of her misery. He did it with Raksha, freeing it from its prison by taking the batteries out, leaving the World Guardian to deal with a very big and very angry dinosaur. And he did it at the Monolith, when he decided to cut his losses and run away from the Elder Gods, opening a portal to Erebus through which a bunch of fuckin shadow gremlins came, leaving the elves, white knights, Crux Eqal, _as well as his own followers_ to deal with the problem he caused. And the ultimate middle finger to the rest of the universe was that his little stunt agitated the Elder Eggs, so the entire Battle of Senntisten and the entire Elder God Wars was his fault.
Ah yes, the correct runescape god. I havent played in years, but I always loved Zaros, despite his many flaws. You dont just get to be that badass without gaining followers.
@@Avrah He loves Seren but Seren loves Guthix. Also his usual behavior in the last Quests and his fan base as whole, typical stuff from an edgy "OC, no steal" meme.
The real life Zaros would be more like a subconscious god instead of a conscious one. And would gain powers from what subconscious mind is mostly sensitive to: insecurity / paranoia. The powers in that case would be by the book, dark godlike powers which is much like Zaros anyways. I think Zaros was the one that freed the demons from hell fire after those fallen angels where cast out of Heaven and locked in the hell of fire. Zaros was not created by God and is not made of normal energy but is made of subconscious anyons and this is the reason why Zaros gains dark powers by negative soul crushing things like when crushing paranoia pain crushes his soul. Like they say no pain no gain. I think God will use a powerful pawn someone like that one day to free people from lake of fire. Most Zaros powers are dark but not evil and are by the book mentality. When people sell their soul, Zaros is the middle men that makes those people popular but the devil still gets their soul when those people pass in to the afterlife.
Zaros used to be cool for a few years as a mysterious figure, but over time I feel like he become some cringe anime character with his own cringe fanboys. Meanwhile Armadyl, Guthix and Seren had a better development imo. Even Zamorak lol.
Zaroses style of leadership would likely be the worst thing that could happen to humanity if he were real, and to pop up on Earth. Humans are not beings of purely logic, and our emotional capacity working hand in hand with our limited understanding of logic that is both individualistic, yet communal, is what makes us human. Would Zaros see mercy, kindness, and offering aid to those who have found themselves in unfortunate circumstances a simple folly? What about a chronically ill individual whose treatment is expensive, yet due to a kinship, love, and a bond they receive it regardless with their relatives aiding them, so that they might live? Zaros, thinking with only logic, would see such at some point futile, and so compel mercy and bonds to be forgotten in the name of progress, unless he could divine the chronically ill person to serve some purpose. On the surface Zaros and his guiding hand seem merciful, but look deeper and reach out to touch it, and it is ice-cold, brutal, and where everything serves his control. How much deeper would it go as well? Would Zaros calculate in his mind the best outcomes for pairing up humans to create stronger off spring, regardless of their interest in each other like mere livestock? Would Zaros advice only who he deems worthy to receive it, and the rest are not worth his time as penance for not being worthy, letting the worthy dominate the unworthy? When only he could decide things, and his fallible mind would dictate the destinies of billions...the death toll paid for that unimaginable progress would likely be unimaginable. His words and his actions, plus his motivations, are in contradiction to one another: No matter the time, age, or place, for Zaros sees worth not in a being simply being, but what they bring to the table. He is tempting, but that's what makes him so dangerous, thus truly a God of Control. One that can convince you to hand over your freedom in exchange for progress, and you would be none the wiser, as his arguments are sound...yet deep down you feel that they are not right. Some part of you nags at you that they are wrong, and perhaps you might let him sweep those emotions aside for they are mere hesitation at the door to greatness...yet emotions are felt for a very good reason too.
well put. I made the analogy that Zaros reminds me a bit of the Emperor of Mankind and the state of humanity in the warhammer 40k universe is abysmal but humanity has also flourished throughout the universe and has a population in the trillions. If humanity were to have destroyed themselves through some accident or error otherwise, would the path Zaros offers not be more enticing? There are many speculated "hurdles" that life needs to overcome to reach type 1 and type 2 civilizations. I would want to give humanity the best chance for long term survival. Even if we had to sacrifice a lot of individuality.
@@Avrah Thanks! And certainly it would be enticing, and there are no doubt many hurdles, for which a being like Zaros would be handy, but I am of the mind that if you ask me the question "Would you sacrifice one to save a million?" - I would say no, and seek a third option. I don't personally believe in sacrificing anyone for "the greater good." In addition, being solely dependent on the wisdom of one being who at the end of the day can be quite sudden in his withdrawals as a thought dawns on him, sounds very dangerous. Zaros could just have one of his troubling thought moments occur, and duck out when he is needed the most. I also believe t's better to earn our place on our own two feet than to be controlled by a being like Zaros into it. While you can ask what good are lessons learned if they cost you everything, I can ask what good at results if you did nothing but get led on a leash to get them, and understand nothing more at the end of the day. Being handed the keys to the kingdom by simply listening, but never truly learning. See what happened after Zaros left his Empire to run without him, and for all the advancement and wisdom it held...nobody had learned a single thing about how to exist on their own without a leash. As someone fond of thinking, understanding, analyzing, and ever learning more as I please, not as I get told to do by a superior intelligence, such an existence to me would be (at the risk of sounding dramatic) worthy of being called "Nihil" - for that's what it would leave me with. Furthermore, "Erroe est humanum", mistakes are human, so if you had a superintelligence like Zaros leading us to artificially prosperity: Well…humanity itself would be no more.
God I fucking love these videos
