    When I was a kid in Hong Kong in the 1960s, my friend asked if I knew why that pastry was name the cocktail (chicken-tail) bun. He then squeezed it until the filling oozed out from one end like chicken pooping. I am retiring in the US and planning a trip to Hong Kong later this year. I should check out that place.

    The cream cones are very close to the Japanese "korone", with the cone made of a bread close to brioche. Come to think of it, the slightly sweet bread, with a slight yellow tint, is a local variant of brioche to begin with.

      @@HongKongHoods Uncle Roger would say "No need to eat heathy, Healthy is for the weak." Heathy food in HK isn't cheap. I remember getting a simple kids yoghurt sachel in cental it was like AU$6 we pay AU$1 at home. Anything imported from a western country is expensive. I guess we can eat Steam boat with plain chicken broth.

Last time we went to HK in 2016, he was 18mths we found it hard to find food he likes apart from carbs (bread, chips & rice). He love the Dao sa bao the runny salted egg baos in yum cha not sure if they have them in HK and of course egg tarts. The youngest is 2 so he isn't too bad but doesn't eat much but love congee.

    I love the chicken pie. It's one of my favourites from a HK style bakery, along with a sausage bun.
    What are British style chicken pies like? Are they similar to a pork pie?

    • @HongKongHoods
      @HongKongHoods  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching! Chicken pies in the UK are a lot different from pork pies as pork pies are usually room temp! Compared to HK chicken pies, UK version tends to have a significantly thinner crust that isn’t as sweet- so the flavour profile is generally more focused on the chicken than the pastry. I’d say (very) generally, that is the main difference! 🙏💪
