The Story so Far - What You don't see, Lagwagon - Feelings, No Use For a Name - Hard Rock Bottom, New Found Glory - Sticks and Stones, Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue....I mean I could recommend hundreds of albums but those are a good start! Oh and to cover ska punk the first Goldfinger album could be a nice gateway into the more "proper" stuff!
I’d recommend they discover the genre in chronological order. For example: Step 1: Late 70s/80s….RAMONES, Clash, Sex Pistols Step 2: The 90s “Second Wave of Punk”…….Green Day, Offspring, Rancid, NOFX, BR, etc Step 3: This Century….. The Explosion, Alkaline Trio, Bouncing Souls, etc Just my opinion This is generally how I introduce my friends to PunkRock
@@PunkRockPete This was with a new punk fan in mind. It wasn't conveyed well in the beginning, but we barred choosing The Ramones, The Clash, Green Day, Blink, Offspring,... etc, Because we are assuming a new punk fan has already checked them out and is looking for some other bands to check out.
I think unless the person is already into more raw and abrasive music, you stay away from most hardcore albums and focus on punk albums that are more digestible, more melodic, and less abrasive. NOFX - Punk in Drublic, Descendants - Milo Goes to College, Face to Face - Face to Face, Bad Cop/Bad Cop - Sorry Not Sorry, and The Distillers - Coral Fang are what I think are good entry level punk albums that people can use as a diving board to start exploring more punk.
Skate Punk: Flash Gordon Ramsey Street - The Decline Pop Punk: This Time Next Year - The Movielife Hardcore: No Gimmicks Needed - Kill Your Idols Ska Punk: Anthology - Slapstick Wildcard: PMFS - Planes Mistaken For Stars(cause everyone should know them, if they already don’t)
Great to see "The Big Knockover" here. It's a masterpiece of fast-paced grief that feels kinda uplifting but offers intense insights into a dark and wounded psyche.
Skatepunk - bigwig - stay asleep Pop Punk - saves the day - through being cool Hardcore - kid dynamite - self titled Ska - save ferris - modified Wildcard - size 14 - self titled Great video and amazing channel! So cool knowing there are people out there as obsessed with the punk genre as I am!

@@PunkRockRadar I love that bigwig album too. It could’ve gone either way with those 2. Also, you should check out the band Subb. They are a Punk/Ska band without horns. Their album The Ultimate HighStep to Hell is like Suicide Machines Destruction by Definition.
This was cool. I have been listening to punk for over 30 years and I got some new albums and bands to check out here. So many good selections too. Thanks guys.
I started my own punk rock journey a couple years back myself lol. It all started when my dad, who isn't necessarily a punk fan recommended me Green Day's Dookie. And listening to it the first time I knew I needed more and that it was right up my alley. So I saw the Loudwire Top 50 Pop Punk Albums list and starting at 50 going down I gave every one a listen over time. I think I'm now at Jimmy Eat World Bleed American, still have to listen to that one, but I've been loving the journey so far. And now, having finished this video, my lord I've got so much more to listen to now haha. I'll be writing all these down on a list to listen to in my free time, thanks guys!
I dont know if you'd call it Skate or Pop, but the first album I reccomend to anyone that's half interested in the "Mall Punk" bands is More Betterness by Nufan. Basically if you like a handfull of Blink or Greenday songs, you will probably dig that album, making it a good way to get hooked on less mainstream stuff.
@@PunkRockRadar My own yardstick is how much of the album is in doubletime, which isnt an exact formula. A fair percentage of Betterness is doubletime, but the production and vocals are very pop. Early F2F was largely in regular 2/4, but the vocals and production were far more raw, thus the line becomes blurry at times.
Skate Punk: Millencolin - Pennybridge Pioneers Pop Punk: The Ataris - Blue Skies, Broken Hearts...Next 12 Exits Hardcore: Strung Out - Exile In Oblivion Ska: Less Than Jake - Hello Rockview Wildcard: Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves
Great wildcard John. I was very late to the party with these guys. It wasn’t till I heard the follow up record to this, mid last year, that I got into them. Then I went backwards and discovered Fuck Art. By August I was in a sweaty Leeds underground venue starting circle pits to them 🤘
Skate punk: NOFX - Shoes/Drublic Pop punk: NFG - Self titled Hardcore: Sick of it all probably Ska (punk): Less Than Jake - Rockview Wildcard: Rancid - Wolves or maybe No Pressure or the new TSSF
It’s funny because Pennywise is my favorite band and I started to listen to them in 1998 with all of their albums at this time but for some reason « About Time » was the only one that I didn’t like that much and it took me like 15 years to start liking it and it’s in my top 3 Pennywise albums now! My point is that for me it’s one of least accessible albums because it’s less straight foward like Full Circle or Pennywise S.T
Skate punk is pop punk for thrash fans. ;) Also, props for bringing up Vision. Criminally overlooked. My personal pick: Skate punk: The Offspring - Smash (I love their thrashy style so much) Pop punk: Green Day - Dookie Ska: Not really my thing but I would agree with Suicide Machines Hardcore: Terror - Keepers Of The Faith Wildcard: Conservative Military Image - Casual Violence
Wow. Haven't heard Night Birds in a while, great band. I think they're absolutely a hardcore band. Always get thumbs up from me for any mention of Evergreen Terrace. Good pick. I was really into the Mad World cover when I first got this record and Dying Degree is better than NOFX's version IMO.
Fuck yeah for The Dirty Nil. I even got some folks not into punk into them on my 7Rock channel. :) (Their cover of Metallica's 'Hit the Lights' is fantastic - look it up).
Skate Punk: Lifetime (self titled) Pop punk: No Pressure LP Hardcore: Backtrack Ska: ……not our thing lol Our band HeadTrip is pretty cool too I guess 🫡🤘🏼
Elliot's first 2 albums are awesome but i think Louis had the strongest list. Skate punk- Pennywise About Time, one of my favorite albums ever Pop punk-NUFAN Hard Rock Bottom, even though I like Feel Good Record better Hardcore- Strike Anywhere Change is Sound, followed closely by Crime in Stereo Troubled Stateside Ska-The Prosecution Words with Destiny Wildcard- A Wilhelm Scream Career Suicide, favorite band ever
I have to be honest for Skate Punk Pennywise Full Circle feels more like the starter to go with. It was the soundtrack of the Top Skater and includes Bro Hymn...........
This isn’t really accurate to say since Top Skater includes tracks from all of the PW albums released at the time and no Full Circle songs actually appeared during gameplay just Society during the attract screen. Also people watching this video coming from the blink and GD stuff wouldn’t know what a Top Skater is
@@aaronfjones Fight Til You Die, Date With Destiny, Society, Nowhere Fast... Full Circle has a lot of bangers, I've just always felt the production was bland on that record.
