      @Dezert_Fox
      Alan Gaines was a pretty cool guy, too.
      He was a tobacco farmer who took a run down 1937 Chevy Pickup that he found in a field and turned it into the most famous 2wd wheel stander exhibition pulling truck (Orange Blossom Special) of the era.
      It was so popular that he inked a deal with playskool to produce a battery operated toy version of the truck that was available from the mid 80's until the early 2000's, he and the truck were actually featured in the short-lived Bigfoot And The Muscle Machines cartoon series that aired in '85 and '86.
      From that one truck, he built an entire stable of orange blossom special pulling trucks and a steam engine bodied monster tank truck that debuted in 1991.
      He was very fondly remembered by fans and competitors alike when he passed away in 2018, and his truck went on display at the international monster truck hall of fame for a while.

    NASCAR has had some amazing commentators over the years. My guesses for some analogues might be:
    Ken Squier was the equivalent of Gordon Solie (some would likely argue Chris Economaki over Ken Squier but I'm sticking to Squier over Economaki)
    Benny Parsons was the equivalent of Bill Mercer
    Ned Jarrett was the equivalent of Gorilla Monsoon
    Bob Jenkins was the equivalent of Bob Caudle
    Mike Joy is the equivalent of Jim Ross
    Dick Berggren was the equivalent of Mean Gene Okerlund
    Would love for some other old-time NASCAR fans to chime in on this with me.

      That is a pretty good list there. I haven't been able to watch NASCAR in some time, as they have wrecked it. But old school NASCAR was something to watch. I caught a few races in the 80's on TV, but I really didn't start following it regularly until the early 90's.

    Brian is absolutely right about radio announcers. Bob Uecker on the radio is an institution up here. Even in the bad years, I had to listen to the Brewers games on the radio because Uecker could make any game entertaining. Canadians calling a hockey game on the radio are just a different breed. They make the games engaging. What i can't stand are the young, unaccented, crisp voiced broadcasting majors who annunciate every word and have zero personality. This seems to be the default most teams go for and it's dreadful.
