it’s both. BC statistically has the worst rushing o line and the pass pro has been straight up awful. So partly it isn’t jurks fault. He clearly has no trust in them to protect, but even with that his pocket presence has been awful, he routinely misses throws off of straight inaccuracy and has no ability to extend plays.
Interesting and really odd. For decades BC seemed to produce good O-linemen at the very least. It seems that Jurkovec simply disappeared. I guess it's great to be considered a 1st round pick but until you are actually a 1st round pick you shouldn't count that Bonus $$$. Maybe the dude can rediscover his desire and fire?
@@cardphins68 yeah bc line is usually good but this year every single player is a first year starter and there has also been 3 or 4 season ending injuries for o line starters so it’s just a mess
Shout out pine Richland my cousin went to school there, loved cranberry PA absolutely beautiful, this was tough as a ND fan too I wanted that to work but such is life
Playing for a team shredded at offensive line was the biggest problem. BC is last in the country in rushing, and defensine lineman often go untouched in pummeling whoever is unlucky enough to play quarterback. With that being said, Jurkovec has actually regressed. He is not throwing as well, which may or may not be an issue associated with a injury incurred in his first year. The other problem has been his inability to find the open receiver and to make poor decisions forcing the ball. This may be in part to constantly having to play from behind. He has had to fight through injury his entire career, and always played hard. I wish him well.
1 thing I don’t get is why he left he would have still had 3 years of eligibility left and would have been the guy after Ian book with a great o line good running backs and good wrs it’s better to play less years if your getting a way better team he didn’t get screwed over he just rushed the process
Because he knew he was trash and wouldn't have gotten the starting job so he went to a bad program that was hurting for a QB after BC screwed and injured Anthony Brown to the point he transferred
He left because of a coach. Chip Long and him did not get along. Chip along was apparently a POS, ruined his confidence and almost his love for the game.
What really happened was he one guy that was always keep him honest. I played basketball against him a at least 15 times and this guy was the only one to hold him accountable. Guessing they didn’t go to the same college
You watch Jurkovec throw the ball and it does jump off the screen. His best shot 2 get in the league is as an undrafted FA, so he can pick the best spot because his arm and release are NFL caliber. Big problem is BC is flat awful this year & Oline has allowed him to be pummeled. In reality he probably should've just waited at ND
Notre Dame guy here and I didn't appreciate how he was handled under Brian Kelly. Wish we could have kept him and maybe developed him. For the most part until just recently he's been pretty magnanimous about the whole thing but he did release a statement prior to the BC game this year that had plenty of pot shots at Notre Dame as a campus even though his beef was with Kelly. While the situation he is in at BC isn't ideal and he hasn't have a lot of chance to develop, he picked the school and he made the choice. I don't care for the injuries and it sucks that that's going to mar his final year. I think in the end what you're seeing with him is the dangers of basing talent valuation on hype only and supposed mechanics or intangibles. It's not a direct translation to performance on the field. Just because a guy has a big arm or good moves running or other quantifiable metrics doesn't mean he will get it done on the field. And I understand he had some decent hype after his first appearances with BC but even after that he was never projected first round even with his intangibles and was still off a lot of radars before all the problems started.
As a die hard 49er fan that was born and lives in SB, and can't help but pay some attention to ND (not a fan), this just screams Mike Mcglinchey. Sure, he's "only" an offensive line person but his name isn't worth spelling correctly.

If he stayed at ND he would be the starter with likely a 10-1 record and if they beat SC, in the playoff. Instead he’s 3-8 at BC lol. Good things come to those who wait I guess.
Everybody here uses the O Line excuse and I get it the o line is god awful. However, Phil should know that going into the games but he would still take way too long to make decisions in the pocket this season. At some point as a QB, you have to make things happen by yourself when things are working against you if your truly as talented as advertised. His skill position players?? Uh hello he has Zay Flowers a Top 10 WR in the country that’s not a good excuse either. He’s significantly regressed from Year 1 to now. It’s either a lack of offseason work or a terrible fit with what the new OC wanted to run because Morehead hasn’t missed a beat since taking the starting position.
We have the same thing going on at Wisconsin with Graham Mertz, he ended up getting a coach with a .750 winning percentage fired because Mertz has the AD convinced it is the coaches fault that he can’t hit the broad side of a barn.
This is what happens because of NIL. These guys get so cocky and think that they should be paid for everything and they end up sucking and are terrible. We have the same thing with Graham Mertz here at Wisconsin. He came in as the highest rated quarterback prospect in Badgers history and the guy just thinks he walks on water and can do no wrong. He forced Jack Coan to transfer to Notre Dame because billionaire Barry Alvarez forced the head coach Paul Chryst to play the freshman in front of the incumbent. No Coan wasn’t the best quarterback but at least the Badgers won and he went on to lead Notre Dame to an 11-2 record last year, including a huge win over Wisconsin. Merton continues to play terrible and old Barry thought the problem was the coach so he fired Chryst to get his boy Jim Leonard in there and the team just now became bowl eligible mainly because of Braelon Allen (who most likely will enter the transfer portal). Mertz hopped on the NIL train last year and thinks he’s some kind of football god. his face is all over billboards here in Madison and the fans can’t wait for him to leave because no matter how terrible he is he will start every game until he exhausts his eligibility.
Great analysis. I feel that this is on the coach, who is a dead man walking. He didn't have the team ready to play at the beginning of the year. The O line wasn't good. There was no running game. It placed too much on Jurkovec's shoulders, and he didn't handle it well. He tried to do too much. It's a damned shame, and I feel that BC let Jurkovec down. It's going to harm BC's ability to recruit.
Last year we had 5 NFL offensive lineman and everything looked promising. Running game was solid, elite talent at WR and a strong NFL caliber QB. This year without the line everyone’s NFL aspirations, except Zay Flowers at WR, has died. It’s amazing what an offensive line can do
