Alabama vs Michigan might have been the weirdest game I've ever watched. It wasn't the team that wanted it most that won. It was the team that wanted it least that lost. You could tell that neither team wanted to actually be there.
Despite the wins over Ohio State and Alabama, Michigan still didn't crack the season's last Top 25 - AP or Coaches. Opt outs likely make it difficult to truly gauge the non-CFP schools as the mid-bowls have become nothing more than glorified scrimmages.
I disagree. Michigan had significantly more fight in them. They were yelling and getting hyped before the game and you could tell they had more energy.
This is why preseason top 25 is generally a waste of time. Mostly hype, and false expectations. The problem is "optimism bias" ~ the tendency to view teams how someone _wants_ to see them, instead of how they actually are.
As Michigan fans, we knew there was going to be a step back after losing so many players and the majority of the coaching staff following the previous season. However, I don't think many of us had any idea how truly bad the QB situation was, and that it would take more than half the season for the new defensive coaching staff to hit their stride. Pre-season, the general consensus prediction was 9-3, as it was well known going in that Tex, Ore, and OSU were loaded. That obviously didn't happen. So yeah, without question, M was heavily overrated at the beginning of the season.
Michigan fan here and even when they revealed the top 25 i thought we were way to high given none of the major players from the natty team where there and we lost most of the coaching staff. Essentially we were starting a rebuild with just a hand full of pieces returning from the natty team. If they where going to rank us we should have been no higher then 15 given the situation
Amid all that, Michigan had 2 massive upsets. I remember the Alabama game, I said the way UM upset Ohio State I went with the Wolverines and BOOM, it happened again. The Wolverines should return to form in 2025. I got to ask you though, did you see Edwards’ downfall coming? I did not expect the backup (Kalel Mullings) to outplay 7.
@ surprisingly yeah I did see is fall off because aside from a big run here and there he was a weak 2nd back to Corum. I’d hoped he would step up but his struggle was not a shock atleast to me. Mullings was a nice surprise and I’m more surprised now that he wasn’t the next up after Corum
