Everyone remembers the crazy time when 3rd QB Cardale Jones took over the college football world, but what happened to Jones after his quick rise? Enjoy!
@@jeffoliver2924 difference is FSU barley Won there conference championship. Ohio state killed a top 10 Wisconson team in there conference championship
I’ll never forget sitting in the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium watch Cardale absolutely dismantle a pretty good Wisconsin team. We had no expectations coming into that game but after it we knew we were gonna win the national championships… it’s a shame it didn’t work out for him after college
I'm an Ohio State fan and I thought he should leave after 2014. I'm *ALWAYS* on the player's side, because in the long run, treating the players correctly is what builds a stronger program. I didn't think that Urban Meyer and the entire coaching staff somehow "missed" noticing how good he was during his years as a backup, but I feel like some nfl team would have maybe made a mistake and spent a 1st round pick on him. I was hoping he would at least get that payday out of his career.
Yeah, you are completely right about the player treatment and the draft. At least if he ended up with a "bust" label, it would have come with a good pay day. I feel like he had the potential, he could have been developed into a decent NFL qb. If some team drafted him 1st round, he could have been given more time to develop, to at least have a career as a backup. Backup qbs get paid pretty well, even practice squad players get paid a lot more than most people.
He needed to stay in school but the school didn't want him to play...so he went and got paid. Wasn't ready mentally to be a pro. It's unfortunate but it happens...
Losing Tom Herman (of whom I'm no fan) really hurt his development coming out of the NC run. You gotta wonder if Ran Day's tuleledge could have worked out for him.
We didn't come here to "PlAy ScHoOl" LOL Cardale was by far my favorite player after that comment. And what happened? he was right! less than 10 years later welcome NIL
That game against Wisconsin made me an OSU fan when I was little lol. I’ve been more of a Kansas guy myself for a few years, but I’ll usually root for OSU
I’m an Alabama fan but respect to Cardale Jones. 3rd string quarterback and we just couldn’t stop him that day or Ezekiel Elliott. Also we should’ve fed Derrick Henry but Lane Kiffin wanted to constantly dial up pass plays for an average at best Blake Sims.
Don’t take this the wrong way: 12 gauge was great those last 3 games of the year to win the NATTY but ZEKE ran for over 200 yards in each of those games and was the biggest reason for the NATTY. “85 yards through the heart of the south for example”
I look at the system you have certain coaches who just use talent to their advantage but on the flip side really don't develop the qb for that position. Look at the history of their qbs
Right after the national championship game I jump on Twitter begging him to declare for the draft. His NFL career may not have turned out to be different, but the guranteed money, and probably extra year or two the NFL that drafted him would have stuck it out would have made it worthwhile.
If you ask me I say this those couple games he played at Ohio State to win the national championship he wasn't game plan for so he had to just fight off the Jitters and play well enough and he did that the next year he wasn't good enough to be as a starter that's why he was a third screen that's why they had to replace him and I think the middle of tail end of the season now him going to the NFL it just enhanced on it worse he wasn't that good of a quarterback Ohio State they have a quarterback friendly system that's why anytime they get in the NFL they never flirts because they don't get no better they stay the same way it was in high school at Ohio State
It seems like maybe things would have turned out better for him if he went to another school where he could have started right away instead of starting his career on the depth chart at Ohio state
I never thought cardale was actually as good as he was hyped to be. the 2015 buckeyes rarely played a good game with cardale at QB, then became much better when JT barrett retook the starting job
I agree Cardale was probably never the player that title run hyped him up to be......but I do not think OSU wins that title with Barrett. Cardales lack of experience and being such raw talent forced OSU to lean on Zeke and good defensive play......that's why they won the 2014 title
Nothing went wrong. He just wasn't NFL caliber. Nothing wrong with that! He was a 3rd string QB that stepped up and became a HERO when he was needed the most! Great personality and sense of humor. His nephew is now running over people as the Cleveland Glenville High School RB.
Wrong he was definitely nfl caliber no team let him start let alone gave him a chance he was choose by Ohio state before urban Meyer then got red shirted because he wasn't a dual qb
"cardale just did his job and made a couple of plays"... Well you didn't watch the 2014 playoff did you... Cardale ran over Alabama on at least four third downs. He had something like 14 passes for more than 40 yds in those three games.... But yeah okay
He got one of the hardest Nick names out tho. 12 Gauge.
I don't think a lot of people understand how much had to be right for Ohio State to get to that National Championship with a third string quarterback.
Florida State University undefeated and doesn’t even get a shot for championship with their 3rd
@@jeffoliver2924yeah that was tough

Wow, respect for the triple upload, keep up the good work, im loving the content
I've always loved the way he threw the ball, it looked so good and effortless, like his passes could go endzone to endzone at will

I wish he left after the championship season too. He could of had a major pay day. A lot of people dont get that players can always go back to college
Thanks Scott for these videos
Quick update: Cardale Jones just signed with the Massachusetts Pirates of the IFL!
Dudes a legend at Ohio state ! Living proof they keep quarterbacks for days! They had so many good qbs they let burrow go😂
Also crazy how he threw without the laces!
12 Gauge!!
Great video, I learned a few things about Shotgun Jones I didn’t even know and I agree with everything u said
He needed to stay in school but the school didn't want him to play...so he went and got paid. Wasn't ready mentally to be a pro. It's unfortunate but it happens...
Can you do a video on Jeremiah Masoli?

No

Nil doesn't mean they don't have to take classes though...
Never knew he was a Wolverine fan growing up. I get why he went to OSU, but I can’t forgive him for it lol

The only thing bigger than Lane Kiffin’s head would be two Lane Kiffin heads. 😂
Whenever I rewatch that game, it's insane how little used Derrick Henry was. But he was also a backup at the time! Crazy.
85 yds through the heart of the south!
Zeke ran for 200+ yds those last 3 games and was the biggest reason for the NATTY.
Ummm....he was not a Wolverines fan growing up. Not sure where you heard that from but it's not the case
He was just too raw. Talented, but he didn't have much actual playing time.
every year he comes into the firework warehouse i used to work at super cool dude
Cardale should’ve declared for the NFL Draft right after the Buckeyes won the National Championship.
He was right in his tweet

Isn't he the guy who made the tweet complaining about having to go to class? He said he came to OSU to play football, not to go to class.
I look at the system you have certain coaches who just use talent to their advantage but on the flip side really don't develop the qb for that position. Look at the history of their qbs
I agree terror Pryor should have been a Lamar Jackson! Instead ended up playing wide receiver 🤦♂️

he plays for my hometown team now lol
Do Kenny bell from Nebraska

He didn’t go to Ohio state to play school
Because he wasn't actually good
Agreed. He was big and strong arm but accuracy was questionable with hardly any experience . Needed more seasoning in college ..
Cardale's three game run to the 2014 Natty was amazing, but the NFL requires a studious QB, and Cardale was not that guy.
Let’s build a statue or make sure he is part of Buckeyes football history.
I never thought cardale was actually as good as he was hyped to be. the 2015 buckeyes rarely played a good game with cardale at QB, then became much better when JT barrett retook the starting job
It doesn’t hurt that Jones got his first start on an OSU team filled with NFL Pro Bowlers

Not even going to watch the video. He wasn’t even that good in the first place that was easy.
Says a lot about Bama then don’t it.
@@jimmy5634 thats makes no sense 🤦♂️ bama had Blake sims who was ass too

Zeke ran ALL over Alabama (ran more than Forest Gump) and was the reason for the NATTY
He didn’t work out in the nfl for one reason he played at Ohio state no osu QB makes it in the nfl
Really?
