I have a couple custom shop reissues.. 59 and 57… both of mine are 2014 models when Gibson changed to the long neck tenon, more accurate dye and hide glue.. In 2015 gibson came out with the True Historic line.. according to gibson, that was the most authentic reissue..I just about bought one and I’m glad I didn’t.. everything had to be custom shop for me to think it was great.. now I think that’s foolish to toss money away, especially when I’m seeing standards with really nice tops.. if you wanted a good top on a sunburst you had to get a premium plus model or custom shop. Gibson has came a long ways with quality control…

Very detailed and accurate explanation. Feel and resonance are key to an experienced player. Those small differences mean the world to those of us who appreciate these things

Have a standard gold top. Stunning guitar in every way. Weighs a ton but it is a Les Paul……just need to keep pumping the iron!

G cord played clean I could hear that the R7 sounds more articulate but I don’t know if the difference is worth another 2000.

What I most appreciate about your reviews, is you actually hear the guitars and not a bunch of effects. Keep up the good work !
About the difference in price, pick the one that most speaks to you and the one you can affort…

In my opinion.. I would think the bronze standard was going to be the 57 and the greenish guitar was going to be the 50’s. But they do turn greenish with time so I get it. I like the bronze better 😂

Having owned a standard 50s and now moved onto a high end MIJ alternative which has absolutely destroyed every reissue Ive tried, I can say that if you can find a light standard 50s, its a great guitar. It feels well built and plays smooth. Of course the custom shop is made with much better woods and technique so if you can afford it, go for that. But if you cant, the Standard 50s is still a great guitar and there are no losers here

The custom shop looks a bit green, like they get naturally, the standard right next to it looks bronze, or sort of copper colored. They're both very nice no doubt, and you definitely can play them my man! Cheers! (Got my own glass of Beam!)🍷

Just different pickups. Thats all. Its not tone its feel. As far as Im concerned, LP and SG and a Junior, production standards are excellent. But when it came to my 335 VOS side by side with production it wasnt even close, so thats the one I say custom shop was worth it. But not that I would turn down a CS LP or SG. They are great but, my daily driver is the 335 so thats them only custom shop I felt was worth it.

When we think about the difference its about 7-10%. And its a realy big difference. Its the same with the sport. When you observe olympic champions the difference between them and other professional sportsmen in about 5%… so 10% is a huge fifference

The Standard sounds just as good, or better to my ears. I like the finish on the Custom better. Is the quality of wood really that much better in the Custom? Not $2000 better, I can say that. I agree with your statement that the main difference is the feel. Excellent review, sir. Cheers!

The custom has single piece and lighter wood body while the standard has multiple pieces wood body. Everything else is mostly the same except for the better fishing and attention to details on the custom, and all custom frets are plek’d too.

I think the custom shop has a bit more sustain and I’m sure it weights less than the USA and the humbuckers would be unpotted in the CS.

Wrong all stock Gibson pickups are lightly potted; including Custombuckers. When you buy the stand alone Gibson pickups, they're unpotted.

Can you hear £2000 / $2000 difference? Please let me know your thoughts! I'm comparing the latest model Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s Goldtop to a brand new, latest model Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul '57 (R7) Reissue VOS Goldtop...

For me Custom are an upper range like Fender does with their custom shop.
That’s nice if you go for it but if you just want a good traditionnal Gibson Les Paul, that standard is the best actually made. So I agree that you don’t have to spend near twice the price to get in that Gibson Les Paul feel and sound ^^
That said you can swap the burstbuckers out to custombuckers :-)

I have a standard 50's gold top and a 59 custom. I would say mine sound more different from each other than yours, but not a lot. The Standard is muddier especially in the neck with a clean tone. However, what you say at 05:49 is exactly the same thing I say about mine. There's a little extra magic in the Custom. Certainly nothing to go into debt for, but certainly something to check out if you have the means. I put treble bleeds on my Standard and at volume 7-8 it does brighten up a bit. Maybe something for others to try if they have the same experience as me.

On top of the sound, the better feel, properly built and lighter weight body woods are a big reason to just save up for the custom shop. Better off since you’ll probably want to sell the standard and lose money eventually when you go for the custom shop
