    I just have to say that since I left the U.S. Navy after the first gulf war, I really lost sense of my electronic training and I regretfully didn't bother keeping up because after the wall fell down, there wasn't much need for my kind, I just became an electrician. Thank you for re-awakening my passion. LED's, Who knew?

    The 'bootstrap winding' that power the switchmode controller once it's started up can also be used to detect the secondary voltage simply by turns ratio.

  • @motechman8256
    @motechman8256 9 лет назад

    Not certain, but from perspective it looks like the power supply is a switched mode supply that provides good mains isolation. The 2 toroid coils are a strong indication along with the transistors on massive heat sinks.
    Not a conclusive analysis, but check the mains isolation that's the important part.
    I appreciate your videos. I've always been curious about the tech that was a breakthrough in LED efficiency, somewhere between 15 & 20 years ago. One video I saw showed the semiconductor layers, so not my question is answered. A far more elaborate semiconductor than were their simple bipolar LED ancestors.

    I believe these are spray booth lights not cheap pieces of kit. I have some 100w ones in for repair. They have a 12v fan and the pcb seams to be the same arrangement with more parts, like temperature sensing etc.. still no feed back tho. There designed for an open fixture due to heat. I'll try fill in the gaps as i progress, because it definitely seems like a repair is feasible due to there high cost.

    You might want to add an annotation at 1:40 to correct that 66, which should have been 60. I notice I'm not the first to mention the error and I see you are aware of it, but an annotation would let people know who otherwise might run away from the "evil number" if they're able to do the math. LOL!
    I laugh, because most of the "numerologists" I've met are terrible with math, and will probably just be confused by the fact that this thing ended up with a 660, a 66, and a 60, and will most likely just assume that all adds up to evil anyway, but maybe not run away since they can't be sure. Those that actually can do the math, will likely just run away. Especially if they notice that the total number of circuit boards with LEDs on them adds up to 13. :)

    I have used COB Lamps similar to this for over a year now in a commercial outlet at high level, originally they were running 200W SON lamps in the fittings but I have now swapped them over to these 40W LED COB lamps and the feedback from the customer has been great.
    They're not cheap at over 60 quid a lamp but for me getting access to the fittings and not having any maintenance issues with them is a no brainer + the added cost savings on their electricity bill have more than paid for them now too.
    These are the ones I use www.ledecolights.com/products/led360-son-replacement/e40/goodlight-6w-g360-led-son-replacement-lamp-e27-daylight-541

    Well... finally some LED that is worth!! If this great light piece of enginering lasts long enough (with this quality seems that it will), I could say that's the only LED light that is worth of investment. Its light wouldn't decay with a short period of time as basically it doesn't produce heat and have a great energy efficiency as operates near to the maximum efficiency point of those devices. Altogether considering this excelent power source gives us the (maybe) only light that has a cost benefit far superior to CFL that's worth the price (I've checked 56 Euros).

    I spent the whole time thinking about how one could arrange red, blue, and near-red LEDs in that configuration for a nice LED replacement for the big high-pressure sodium lamps I use in the greenhouse. I'm afraid however the high humidity would be the death of that nice driver board, and any attempts at vapor-barrier housing would probably ruin all the cooling built into it.
    I suppose maybe it would have to be a specialty unit with cooling integrated into the vapor barrier housing. Maybe this layout isnt well suited then, you'd want it to be split in half with the back side an big finned aluminum heatsink and the front a glass vapor-barrier cover or something...

    Now putting jokes aside, here's a 100W version I found when I was doing a job replacing the lighting in a clay brick factory in Austria.
    www.dropbox.com/sh/97vwpzdg2tgvhgx/AAAk83k1KZVMHZTDsfNBaqlFa?dl=0
    It has 12 strips of 112 LEDs and another 112 LEDs on the top disk so altogether 1456 LEDs. Each strip and the top disk have 14 sets of 8 parallel LEDs. It comes with an E40 type screw plug and it also has 2 12V fans. One fan is at the base where the wires from the PSU are attached and the other is at the middle of the stack and they are configured so that the air flows from the socket to the tip.

    • @georgemasson6125
      @georgemasson6125 5 лет назад

      You thunk? 20 years ago I was repairing PFC equipment in my Low voltage switch-room. Ideally power factor should have a value of 1 (power factor=true power/apparent power) when capacitive and inductive loads are balanced, however in most lighting and machinery, the load tends to be inductive, so you add capacitors to try to get the correction. Power Utility companies will fine businesses that run too inductive a load on their supply, and that's why we try to do something about it. Money.

    I remember this video and you talking about the apprenticeships and I commented on my old Channel That's now band however I realized something. You know who makes even more money than electrician? That would be a police officer because a police officer in California usually on average makes around 200,000 to 300,000 a year.
    electricians make nowhere near that amount of money but you know what at least you still have a soul after your apprenticeship something that you don't have once you become a police officer.

    I had one of these on a pole light lasted about one year company replace it with a new one. Now the replacement is not working. The supplier calms the air is to dusty and getting dirty inside. Very poor design if dirt get inside and it stops to work.Changed it for complete sealed unit.

    I was always told to never touch the capacitors lest I get zapped. Is that not true here and why?

      It's wise, but if the circuit has been disconnected from the supply for a while and has discharge resistors then it's normally safe.

    If you want to learn about the lamp, watch the video. *_However_*, for those of you that just want him to turn it on (which he doesn't in this video), see his other video of it here: ruclips.net/video/j7Dq2myAN7Y/видео.html

    What brand of bulb is that? Does it produce a lot of heat? Where is it available ? Is it safe ? And last question, what color is it ? ( cool white or warm white) Thank you.

      Brian Mc Donnell it would be a cool white. (yellow leds usually cool or natural white, orangeish leds usually a warm white)

      The pen I normally use on paper in these videos is a Pilot V sign pen. It uses liquid ink. If you search my videos for "pen" you'll find the one where I refill it with printer ink.
