  • We're showing you all the main sights you'll want to see when you visit, plus showing you one of our favorite hotels we've ever stayed in, exploring Braga, and what to look out for if you love Harry Potter like we do. We also tried some local favorite foods, the francesinha and the cachorrinho.

We just got back from Porto...Loved it! We passed by the bookstore and now I understand the line! I actually asked what all the hoopla was about and his response was a typical and proud response..."The most beautiful bookstore in the WORLD"!!! Nothing about HP!! As far as food, I am trying it all...I did not have Francesinha in Pprto, but did recently try 'half' at a local resto that was recommended and like you Michelle it was good, but heavy and definitely not going on my favorites list!! Tried octopus last night...Not on the list either, but I do love Portuguese food!!!

Our first time in Porto, we missed the English tour at the Bolsa Palace and didn't have time to see the Church of Sao Francisco. We did peak into both and they're beautiful. Definitely on the list for next time! We walked across the bridge and viewed the sunset from the park there, and dinner at "Taberna Santo Antonio" was delicious.

Hey there! I am Portuguese, I live in Aveiro (45 min to South of Porto), and thetefore Porto is one of my "go to" places. Nowadays, everything is available everywhere in Portugal, but when I was younger (I am 52, btw), we would go to Porto by train to shop.... I have also worked in Porto for 3 years. I liked your highlights, but there is SO much more to see and explore in Porto! Keep going back.... Porto has become one of the most visited cities in Europe over the past 10 years and you will find it quite "tourusty", but there lots of places that escape that vibe. And YES, do plan a trip to the Douro Valley (and allow for at least a 3 days stay, depending on how much you want to explore around it).... You won't regret it.

@@HoneymoonAlways If you do, O will be happy to show you around, since all the videos I have seen about Aveiro miss the major important aspects of it..... They all concentrate on the canals boat ride and forget some of the most interesting aspects of the region.

      @JoseOliveira-qq9mk 2 года назад +2

@@sankofa9931 It is a bit difficult to answer your question, since I don't know what your interests are. I love to wander about the "Parque da Cidade do Porto", one of the biggest green areas within a city in the country. I love the nature within the city, the activies that are on offer, the sheer pleasure one can take from being in a huge Park IN a City. Close by, I just love to "get lost" in the Foz region streets (the not so "secret" area of the old school rich people in Porto), and just admire the streets, the architecture of the small residencial palaces (still owned by the rich families of Porto that do not appear in any tabloids, but who still own their properties in the Douro Valley and their awesome Villas in Porto). And not so dar away, discover the gardens of the Serralves' Foundation and its iconic moderno art museum. Please...... Visit the Serralves' original House..... It is an architectural pearl.

Loved the video (as always) thank you for these. Hubby and I are planning for September 2022 with a three week stay in Porto before heading down to Lisboa and then on to our final destination of Albufeira. I have done a ton of reading and absolutely love Porto and it looks like it will be just as great as I have read. The HP influences are definitely on our list to check out as well as the Douro Valley. keep the great videos coming, thanks, K 🇨🇦

Wow guys, you just saw mostly things I haven't even properly enter while living here!! So many churches! :DD
The hotel looks very epic, wouldn't mind treating myself there as well 🤩
To the HP topic I'd add Portuguese student's uniforms inspiration (but the praxe - the practice connected to wearing them sucks and is based on humiliation and is teaching students to endure the hierarchy). Unfortunately, JK had a hard time in Porto, her marriage with Portuguese journalist turned out to be abusive and traumatic, that's why she avoids mentioning it too much. She was working in a language school and going to a dance club Swing (now closed) on Boavista roundabout. Can you tell I'm a big fan too? :D
What you might enjoy the next time:
Casa da Musica - for a concert, but also to see it and explore around
Serralves - both gardens and art exhibitions
    Virtudes Park
Fontainhas viewpoint + walk by the river
Walk around Bonfim neighbourhood, with coffee in Asa da Mosca to feel like a local
Another nice coffee places: Combi, The Happy Nest, Buuuh!, O Porto dos Gatos
Rota do Cha for tea and viby garden
Maybe a wine cellar trour in Gaia would be fun for you? There's also a new place there, WOW (the World of Wine)
The best francezinhas are actually considered to be in Lado B/Santa Francesinha. Recommend the vege one, if the meaty feels too heavy :)

As a Porto native, I can confirm that Porto is very rainy. Not so much in the Summer though. But from October to June it can get pretty wet and it usually rains almost every single day. We do get sunny days during the winter, but they are usually cold and misty.

Francesinha in Braga and Porto have a diferent sauce. In Braga is more sweet and a litle sickening and in Porto is more salty and havy. But you can NOT go to any restaurantes.. All Porto restaurantes do francesinha! But only a few are realllllyyyyy goooood!!!
    Some restaurante choices:
    Yoko
    Cufra
    Santiago
    Bufete fase
Cervejolas (this os not very know, because ir os not on center ou touristic área, but is really good and cheap)
    Enjoy ☺️

We are a blessed Country in so many ways, natural beauty, phenomenal man made structures, mostly very nice people, fantastic weather for most of the year, tasty, although not well known around the Globe food, wines, spirits, some say: "because its so good WE keep it to ourselves, true or not, you the visitor/resident have the prime decisional vote.
And if that wasn't enough, along with the Continental Portugal? THE ISLANDS! Azores archipelago, 9 of them beautiful Islands, on the same latitude (+/-) of Boston USA, so much so, that most of the Azoreans migrants, live in Boston, then, well, the Love of my life, WHY? because I've born there, MADEIRA Island, ❤ with Porto Santo, Desert Islands and Wild Islands that form the all archipelago, absolutely gorgeous nature, breath taking wonder nature, obviously you need to witness it by yourself, and then prove me wrong.
