Ordered. Arriving Thursday\Friday. Just in time for my next 18 litre batch of base gravy. £77 now but hey, only the best eh?
Finally an ultra simplified version. Thank you I love it.
Glad you like it! Very tasty recipe
Agree this is a very good recipe and ultra easy too!
Love it, really easy and quick.... You could make the base as you prep the actual dishes, that should speed the process right up.... Cheers Steven, thanks for uploading
Some base gravy vies are well over 10 minutes and you havent missed anything . Bravo
Your channel should be ontop. Very underrated.
Best recipe video for base gravy ever to date.
Wow, thank you!
This is a julian Voight copy and missing oil.
Kia Ora Steve. Same ingredients, long cooking, if you don't own a pressure cooker (which I don't) ?
Hi Russ, yes they'd take quote a bit of boiling. Maybe 2 hours, definitely test a beans before taking off the heat. It may be worth buying a pressure cooker for the money you may save on fuel
You're recipes are always the most straightforward 🎉 thanks
My pleasure 😊
Fantastic vidio just goes to show how easy this stuff is to make bin cooking Asian cuisine for 6 years now done loads of base gravy don't be put off by is ruff and ready approach thanks mate Neil wolverhmpton
Thanks Neil,
nice one!🙂
Hi Stephen. I just found your channels. You really impressed me with removing the skins from Chick peas, and basic gravy. Thank you.
Welcome aboard 👍
I have a instant pot pressure cooker any idea how long I would set it for ?
Not used one but around 45 minutes possibly
Bravo sir.
Looks like a decent blender. How much?
It's a Waring Light Duty Quik-Stik from Nesbits £72. Good value
@@StevenHeapRecipes Cheers. Gonna have a look for one of them...
need the commercial blender for this job m8 which i soon learnt years ago,...standard home blender got so hot it started smoking, had to throw the thing outta the window as was seconds away from catching on fire lol!,..great vid as always m8.
Cheers mate, yes I've burnt a fair few too. The one I'm using is a light use commercial type, so far so good 👍
What size/litres is the pressure cooker? Cheers
13 litres
How do you get 4 litres of water and all the ingredients in a 3 litre pressure cooker? Me thinks you have got hold of a Dr Who TARDIS pressure cooker😁@@StevenHeapRecipes
How long to cook without a pressure cooker Steven, have not got one as yet
A good 2 hours. Soak them for longer also and use a bit more bicarbonate of soda but make sure to wash it off
@@StevenHeapRecipes Thank you
@@StevenHeapRecipes Sorry Steven confused when you say use a bit more soda? You dont mention any in the video
So Graham, I'm was confused, I replied to you thinking it was my last video for soaking the kidney beans. No soda is this recipe. Without a pressure cooker, I use a lid and boil until the ingredients are very soft
Velly good. I also buy those spicies
Cheers 🍻
Hi, thanks Steven great video, but one quick question for you, doesn't the coconut block impart a massively overpowering coconut taste into the base sauce, and hence into every curry you make with it?
I don't find it very strong but if you'd prefer not to use it you can just omit it from.the recipe.
hello , really enjoy your videos , in this one you said boil for 40 minutes and turn heat off ( and then mentioned 2 hours ) , is it turn heat down and leave for 2 hours and then blend or it takes 40 minutes , just about to buy a pressure cooker.
Hi, sorry for any confusion. Boil for 40 mins and rest for 2 hours. Over night is even better. It's amazing taking off the lid next morning and seeing it cooled down completely. Allows more flavour to develop too (tip!
Great video. Who needs all that chopping when you can do this 👍
So true! Thanks 😊
Hi Steven, is that really 9 Table spoons of mix powder in the written description? great videos by the way!!
Thanks - Without looking at the video I'm not sure, I never weigh anything (unless I'm making pizza dough). Use your discretion
Not to sure if you will see this comment due to it being an older video but I have a couple of questions regarding base gravy recipe in your cook book.
1. Is there a particular oil you use.
2. What size pressure cooker is needed for all the ingredients (it states 40 servings).
Love the book!
Hi Jed,
Thanks 😊
Sunflower, rapeseed, veg oil (all neutral tasting) all work fine.
A standard 7 litre pressure cooker is fine. Once watered down to a 'paint like' consistency you should have about 12 liters and most servings use around 300 ml so approximately just under 40 servings
@@StevenHeapRecipes Thank you
How do you think this recipe would be without the coconut cream? Could it be replaced with another ingredient or just be left out completely .
That would still work perfectly, no problem 😊
@@StevenHeapRecipes well in that case I'm going to give it a go tomorrow minus the coconut ,👍 thank you 😁
I'm using a 13 litre pan

Great video, but what's in the mix powder please. The stuff I bought (Indian 7 spice mix) has stong tast of cinnamon.
proper no fuss video. on so many tutorials i have to fast forward all the waffle and navel gazing. not here. nice one sir!
Yes, I know that feeling. I try and make videos in a style I'd want to see them. Time is precious ✨️
❤❤❤👍👌👌❤️❤️❤️
How many kg of onions?
2
@@StevenHeapRecipes your description says 3kg now you've said 2
@@chrbx13sorry I can't remember without having to watch the video. I cook so much I couldn't remember what I did 4 days ago. All the quantities are always in the video description 👍
@@StevenHeapRecipes I asked because I didn't understand what you said in the video and commented as I was watching, then I checked the description and realised you wrote it there, but didn't delete my comment
That tin of tomatoes looked bigger than 450g ?
You're absolutely right, it's 800ml. I've updated the recipe. Thanks
there is also no measure for the garlic ginger in the recipe description ; ) @@StevenHeapRecipes
couple of tablespoons of each@@bradkneale7580
Yes but we all haven’t got press cooker
No problem, just cook after soaking until soft.
@StevenHeapRecipes can you use the air fryer pressure cooker mate
Thats the least amount of fuss Ive seen for a base gravy....ever.
