Homer & Jethro In The Service Vintage Vinyl Comedy

Before Homer Simpson, there was Homer and Jethro. This video is a digital copy of the original vinyl record comedy Homer & Jethro In the Service.
Homer and Jethro were the stage names of American country music duo Henry D. "Homer" Haynes and Kenneth C. "Jethro" Burns. They were a wildly popular comedy duo from the 1940s through the 1960s. They were most popular for satirical versions of popular songs. Known as the "Thinking Man's Hillbillies",. They won a Best Comedy Performance Grammy Award in 1959 for their song "The Battle of Kookamonga" which was a parody of Johnny Horton's "The Battle of New Orleans". In 1960 they recorded a parody of Lennon and McCarthy's "I Want to Hold Your Hand." Homer & Jethro and are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Burns was the humorist of the pair and wrote most of their songs. Their parody of "Baby It's Cold Outside", as recorded with June Carter, became one of their first hits. It led to an appearance on WLS-AM in Chicago in 1950, a tour with musical satirist Spike Jones and an uncredited appearance on Jones's RCA Victor recording of Pal-Yat-Chee, an opera parody. A number of successful recordings followed.
Taking a cue from other comic talents of the era, most of their humor was directed inward, towards themselves. In several notable exchanges recorded on the live album At the Country Club, they announced that the parade to be given by their fan club had to be canceled because one of the members was ill, and the other had to work.
