    Just for a simple daily driver, I will say something like a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. If they want something a little bigger, then the pilot or 4runner, if they are passionate about cars starting off, I will recommend keeping the horsepower anywhere from 200hp to 500hp and if they can afford the monthly payments.

    I had a $7k budget, between my options were a couple of Civics with D series engines, but then I stumbled into an AE86 GTV within that price range, so I got it as my first car. Absolute bargain considering how much those things are worth in the US. Almost 5 years later and I still have it, and is currently undergoing a K swap.

    The difference between FWD and RWD: With FWD, you understeer into the tree and die. With RWD, you oversteer, get sideways and you slide into the tree and die.

    Tom, lemme stop you right there, on the stick shift point. I'm disabled, but I can drive with my feet, even though I have Cerebral Palsy. You sound like my father right now. He bought me a car and said the only way I could drive is if I could walk normally. I was 15, I'm 30 now. Don't gate-keep your kids. I resent my dad for this. He used a vehicle as a bargaining chip, a V6 93 Camaro, and threw it away when I couldn't complete his impossible task. He built mud trucks when I was a child and offroading is still the coolest thing to me, because of those memories.
    He had great taste in cars and had skills, but he's a shit parent.
    Not attacking you, just please don't be like my dad.

    • @TheRacingJoker
      @TheRacingJoker  4 месяца назад +3

      I would only gatekeep based on my kid’s level of interest. Your interest in cars is undeniable and you have a legitimate reason why it wouldn’t be necessary. It’s a question of if they can then they should sort of thing (my wife refuses to learn stick which limits the sports cars we can share)

      I completely understand that. My girlfriend is a huge DnD/ medieval weapon aficionado. I think her passion is neat and she said she'll support whatever I want to build. I'm working to get a 1994 Caprice with the LT1 on the road and have an 83 Suburban in the works.
      I plan on sharing the automotive hobby with everyone I come in contact with.

    What I tell first timers.. buy the car you need not what you want. Best part of being a teen in the 80s were 800 dollar mustangs and camaros, 1 buddy had a 71 914 that was a basket case from the wreckers him and his Dad rebuilt one summer from scrap parts.
    As for rear wheel drive, that's all we had, people are soft skilled these days.

    • @TheRacingJoker
      @TheRacingJoker  4 месяца назад

      That’s a great point. I think in a lot of cases it’s hard to say what a teen needs for their own first car, because in a lot of cases there’s an argument to be made that they really don’t need a car

    Wtf, in France insurance won't take your car if it has more than 120hp as a new driver. And even 120 is a lot, most will have 60 to 90hp.
    But most cars are manual. I finally got to buy my dream car that is the gt86 and that was not easy to get insurance even after nearly 5 years of driving without accidents.
    And the gr86 costs 35k$ but has a 60k$ écologi malus so now it's a 95k$ car 😂.
