As someone who was on Team Future. This splatfest was awesome. I won’t lie I’m sad, more so because we didn’t get any points rather than losing altogether. I loved the music, especially on tri color, the now or never deep cut mix was crazy frantic and intense. I personally believe that mirror matches are important and should not count for clout because of the popularity issue. However a feature implemented to choose whether or not you were okay with mirror matches would be good.
Truth be told I think the biggest issue overall in the mirror matches, is matchmaking. I think if the matchmaking was fixed it would solve a lot of problems. This paired with the bonus clout battle percentages.
I loved tri color. I loved the map. But I think the defense issue would’ve been better if there were more features added for the attacking teams for movement. Like rails or geysers. I wish the idols were a little more involved in the battle like final fest from Splatoon 2.

Honestly I wish you could go with two different loadouts depending if you end up in attack or defense. For example if I end up getting into attack, I get the Splattershot, but if I'm defense, I get the Hydra (with all the correct gear for both)
As someone who mains Heavy, it's not best suited for attack in my case, and I'd rather use something else, but on defense is awesome and genuinely a lot of fun.

For me Splatfests tend to create that feeling of community that I tend to not have since I don't have any irl Splatoon Friends, so having a reason to celebrate and seeing everyone making posts in-game ect is a blast. And Turf Wars are a good for fun format, but I think next game they could at least add Splat Zones as an option. It's similar to an extent, and could be a good chance for those who haven't played the ranked modes to try at least 1 of them

This video actually summarizes nearly all my feeling as I went into Grandfest. In terms of the gameplay there was nothing special here, the maps being especially bad on turf war really didn't help. The concert aspect of this fest though was Splatoon at its peak and probably the only time this game used nostalgia in a very tasteful way and not feel like pandering.
Music was insane though, loved that.

What you said about matchmaking is just true for the entire game. The game does not seem to really care what your rank is, it just throws you into matches to make them happen. At least in Splatoon 1 and 2 it would take my level into account, but in this game it feels wild that I can do solo rank in s+ but still get players in b rank as my partners. It has been my biggest complaint with Splatoon 3 since the first season. Not to mention that in turf war you can now purposely queue as a team, but still be faced against a bunch of people playing by themselves. It has made the solo experience for Splatoon 3 not nearly as enjoyable as it could be. I basically only play anarchy open with friends at this point.

I don't know if this is a valid opinion or not, but I believe Nintendo was focusing more on the casual side of the playerbase. Most of these common takes I've seen for splatfests are mostly from competitive players and the common player's opinion isn't exactly common to see in social media. And besides, turf war was built for casual gameplay. Though I do agree that locking ranked modes is a big problem. I just hope that future splatfests can accommodate both casual and competitive players.

I really enjoyed every second of Grand fest and this is coming from someone who used to be a competitive player. I have around 2000+ hrs on this game but i’m still able to enjoy it and not complain about the little things.

As a person that enjoys some competition now and then, I think Splat3 is overly competitive and less casual than its predecessors. Idk how others feel, but I'm quite constantly overwhelmed by the competitive factor the game puts up (Big Run, Eggstra Work), how they shrunk maps to make choke-point hell and how I just don't care for the new things (card game, locker) that it makes me want to play it less. I would have liked it better if there were some greater balance, but hey... This game wasn't made just for me. This is what would be appealing to me as a fan of the 1st game. I kinda agreed with everything except the being locked out of rank part.
If they had ranked open, a lot of people wouldn’t play the splatfest. Which I don’t think Nintendo would like.
I think instead they should open some sort of splatfest challenge mode. Where it’s still mainly turf war focused, but it adds the challenge of rank. (I’m not talking about tri-color)
I personally have a problem with the whole Open and Pro thing cause most of the time I just play Open cause it rewards more xp. But I can also understand why some people play cause it’s a solo experience (I just kinda wish it was more rewarding instead of feeling like a grind)

Honestly, I think that for splatfests to really shine they need to rework turf war as a whole to stand on its own as a gamemode. As of now, turf war just feels very concentrated in the last minute, with the rest of the match being filler. If turf war was reworked to, say, have checks at each minute mark that records the amount of ink on the stage, that would make it feel a lot better.

    • @MeloniestNeon
      @MeloniestNeon 2 месяца назад +5

@@ChickenFriar agreed. Something like a permanent counter that goes up for a team the longer they have the majority map control (over like 25% or something so it doesn't start ticking up immediately after a game starts when they have a 1% lead at only 5% of the map painted) would be great, they've already played around with something similar with the ultra signal, but that's not permanent points, just temporary points that slowly refresh over time.

    • @shaba22
      @shaba22 2 месяца назад +3

I think a good way of doing it would be that the ink "dries" after say 30 seconds, and can't be flipped after that, so there is incentive to charge the spawn point to keep the ink wet, or go to those random corners and nooks when you make a push. It also rewards spawn locking the opponent with more than a minute left instead of getting wiped with 30 seconds left and losing. Obviously the match will end if more than 50% of the map dries for your team.

    • @shaba22
      @shaba22 2 месяца назад +2

Related but not exactly the same, I think they can do some fun things with ink as a mechanic in the next game. Make it so that if you paint over your own team's ink enough and it becomes deeper to imitate ninja squid abilities (slower swim speed but undetected, maybe you dive to the deeper level by holding ZL and ZR simultaneously or something), and instead of ninja squid being a shirt ability, you have a headgear lantern fish ability that lets you detect everyone submerged in any ink while you are in the deep ink, but the deep ink has a bit of end lag when you surface and go to shoot again (think popping up out of ink with a nautilus and it doesn't shoot immediately). Enables fun stuff for team comps and is balanced by making the fight 3v4 while the player is submerged.

I haven't won any final fests yet, and while I was of course bummed to have lost the last two, I'm outright let down with these results. I was doing really well, but between the extra team at play and all the mirror matches I was getting on team present, I didn't really feel like I was having nearly as much of an impact on the outcome, and I'm sure plenty of other people feel similarly.
The fest itself was absolutely amazing, though! I'm the type that really loves Splatoon's aesthetic and dedication to immersion and detail, and the venue, concert, and new tricolor stage were all some of the most fun I've had across the whole series. I do think the mirror matches pose an issue with how the results are tallied. See, if you actually looked at the clout results, the percentages were pretty even, not huge differences between teams, even despite Present having so many more people and getting so many more mirrors. If we got rid of mirrors, would that unfairly raise clout averages and make way easier for the popular team to win when that's not the point?
Obviously mirrors suck and we wish they were gone, but with how the system is handled right now I struggle to figure out a better one where we can both have no mirrors and have a fair competition. The devs did their best to at least give mirrors SOME incentive with conch clashes, they worked with what they got.

    • @squibbles_
      @squibbles_ 2 месяца назад +4

@squiddu I'm not saying there shouldn't be ANY mirror matches, because you're right; if one team is wildly more popular than the other(s), then it wouldn't be fair for the entire opposite reason. I'd just like it if I didn't get so _many,_ because it feels bad to be ready to give it my all for the fest, only for half my matches to not count because I'm up against my own team, and that I'm not contributing as much as I could-- and that's not even considering all the multiplier matches I missed out on for that same reason. I'd be willing to wait longer in queue if it meant the game tried a little harder to match me up with other teams

1: They feel like a break. I don't have to try as hard, as there's little to no stakes, but it's not like im logging off *entirely*. So I feel like I get to recharge my brain a little and look to my tactics and properly acess how I've been performing.
2: sometimes they turn into squid parties, and yeah I know even *i* dislike squid parties, but during splatfests I actually like them. It's thr one time players get an actual sense of comradery beyond liking the same game as you, and it feels like some of your team just getting together to "socialize" and mess around. I know for me at least the grandest felt sorta stressful with the stakes never being higher, and the occasional squid party with my own team was perfect to take the edge off.

    Mirror matches from past perspective
I was from the team past perspective, Day one I mostly spent time just enjoying concerts. In day two I opened with a few salmon run shifts before going in. Late in second half we saw nothing but opposing teams. Around the end when it was becoming very late we started to see a mirror every 10 or so games. We did not get many mirror mathes and when we did it was mostly after hours when many of the players in our area were tuning off to bed. In total we seen about 5ish maybe less over the course of the splatfest
Day three I played with a friend. We saw two mirrors. The team we encountered less was team future. We only saw Team present a large portion of the time. Team Future would appear but super rare to see. That green ink was indeed a rarity from my perspective though I cant say that for fellow past members.
    Ranked modes allowed in Splatfest
Sounds fair enough, If we can have salmon run shifts I feel like we could have ranked modes avaiable. The issues could be more technicle though. I think that the dev team would have allowed rank modes if it was something they could really do.
    Grandfest thoughts
They really outdid themselves here, Seeing the a splatfest on a new location was truly a treat. It would be an understatement to say I felt spoiled the last couple of weeks. From wone of the best big runs ever to one of the best splatfest ever. We really were recieveing a true meal and the devs were cooking michelin level dishes for all of us at now additional cost.
The concerts were really cool, I fealt like I was at a rea concert complete with intermissions security staff merchandise booths grand stages and neat decorations. The final night concert was the true main event with all the idols singing togather in unity. Words can not describe how great this fest was, One would have had to have been there to see why this fest was easly the greatest fest of all time. I am also glad that one could revisit them from amiibos. This makes it so people who missed it can be there as well. Now anyone who has amibos or plans to get amiibos won't have to say "I sish I was there" Cause they can be there.

I agree with most of these but I'm sorry, the number of concurrent players will have no effect on the number of mirror matches if the team allocations are extremely lopsided. If there were 3 times as many Present players and Future players (which there were) it would take just as long to match the former with the latter regardless if there were 10 players to choose from or 10 million. And it's easy to say they should just change the matchmaking time to prevent mirror matches but with 57% of the vote, that would mean Present players would have to wait more than twice as long on average than either other team. And it can still take like 30-40 seconds (sometimes over a minute) to get match for a normal game of turf war already.
Also, while I'm sure some Past and Future players got some mirror matches, unless you have some data on it that proves otherwise I doubt it was actually that common for them. I know this is only a single data point but as a Future player I didn't have a single mirror match for the whole fest.

It was incredibly hype for all of us and might be the highlight of our whole experience with Splatoon 3, so because of that I’ll always hold this grand festival near and dear to my heart. I’m incredibly excited to see what Splatoon 4 has in store!

I mean. Of course every Tricolor map feels defender-favored if you're one of those guys that just kills the other attacking team without questioning anything (which you appear to be, given the Splatlands Bowl footage used). That's just deliberately compromising yourself; the in-game explanation for the mode explicitly says to work with the other attackers.
(Splatlands Bowl is actually one of the more balanced ones according to splat, ink data; Attackers having a rail that goes pretty much directly to the signal does a lot of heavy lifting tho)

As someone who was on Team Future, I had a great time. The whole Grand Fest Grounds venue was nothing short of amazing and they went all out with the music, visuals, and little details. I loved that you could join the audience in the idol performances and do cute little gestures and cheers. And I have to say, Three Wishes is now in my top 3 favorite Splatoon songs of all time. It’s magical.
Gameplay wise, I do wish they did a little more with it. Final Fest in Splatoon 2 implemented Hyperbombs and other cool gimmicks into some new custom stages. But unfortunately, Splatoon 3 didn’t really do any of that. We did get the exclusive Tri Color stage which I enjoyed, but that’s about it honestly. I would like to point out that I liked having multiplier battles appear more frequently. I got tons of 10x, got three 100x, and even fought in my very first 333x battle. And of course, the music. I LOVED hearing Splatfest music from the previous games and the Now or Never being from all 3 games depending on the battle music you had was the cherry on top.
All in all, yes, they could’ve done better especially in the gameplay department, but I’m nowhere near disappointed. I had a great time and it was an overall magical experience, one that the devs really put lots of love and care into.

I like Fizzbangs because you can easier ink turf with, for example, chargers. It does help more splat-focused weapons. For mirror matches, they are not totally useless in the sense that you still gain Splatfest points for your Splatfest rank, but for your Splatfest-team as a whole they are indeed pretty useless.
I also picked team present, and I did experience a good bit of mirror matches here and there, but not as excessive as it seemed on your end.
For the tri color map, I found that if the enemies manage to gather both signals you are way more cooked that on the old tri colors. (The Zelda tri color map was also my favorite of those maps :D)
Tri color matches were strongly plagued by mirror matches for me, but the map was interesting, so I wasn't too bothered and enjoyed it.
For the constant turf war only, I do like me some turf war, but I can totally understand to have some different modes. Splatoon 2 kind of avoided the monotony by having special Splatfest maps, so to differentiate toward the normal turf war, imo. Either they bring back special Splatfest maps or they introduce some new fitting modes for the Splatfests to address that issue. (Meanwhile during that grand festival I did played some rounds of Salmon Run for some change of pace (on Saturday, because I already played basically the whole Friday) :D.)
The match making suggestion does sound nice.
And about squid partying, if you don't like it, you can do something pretty evil ... splat them and ink their turf, muhahaha 😈

The way I think of mirror matches is this: if you’re in a mirror match, that just means someone else is getting the clout for your team instead since there’s only so many matches that count to go around. I initially liked the idea of being able to opt out of mirrors, tho I can see why Nintendo wouldn’t do it since if too many people opted out it would put everyone back in the same boat, or worse… make it so those who are cool with mirrors don’t get to play any that count. I would consider mirror a necessary evil on account of all this. Ultimately the issue lies with the three team system I believe. They would be much more even more often if there were only 2.

Okay, so the second signal has the idols come out and activate canons that constantly shoot fizzbangs of that color, and the amount of people I've seen completely miss that is astounding.
Hell, this is even better than a second sprinkler, the amount of fizzbangs they send out cover a lot more ground, further requiring defenders to pay attention so that attackers don't gain a huge advantage.
I feel like this is another tricolor stage where it SEEMS heavily in favor of the defenders, but in reality it relies more on how you approach getting to the signal instead of just barelling towards it without any thought and dying in the process.

with all we have so far, this is how I'd "fix" splatfest.
shells-no more as sneak peek only. kind of thought this was goofy at the start and with special shell matches they are all now included. still have "who's leading" at fest start.
    fest battles
entering-needs to go back to 1's way. when we got a 2nd & 3rd entry plus 3 choices it splits us up too much. going back to 1 entry will hopefully help lessen mirror matches.(also the less popular teams will face popular more than each other and no more with themselves)
stages and rotations(enter part of the 4 theme)
day 1-shifty station(or equivalent) returns. having somewhere special/different to play helps. these become the stages for TW.
regular stages are still there...for ZONES! this mode rotates with TW to give something different. SZ is just a specific TW so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
day 2-TW switches to tri version. 3v3v3 on special made stages(tri-force, GF bowl, etc.).
ultra signal rotates with shared stages.
    1 extra player shouldn't be a problem.(3 teams of 4 or 4 teams of 2 or 3 is a no.)
    results
    shells & popular still there
clout now has 4 separate totals.
(note-fizz bangs will still be there for each mode)

I think Splatfest should some form of limits to how many ppl can vote per team. And if ur voting late have some slots open to vote for what is available. To keep the entire player base 33.33% so mirror matches would not be necessary. Or they could just let the idols pick us. So it's a mystery for what team we will fight but if you're on board just go full for that team. So maybe they should make choices that are personal to the idols instead of what we like so it doesn't feel like ur forced into a team choice u don't feel like. Since it's about their choices not your own.

I didn't play too much on the Grand Splatlands Bowl Tricolor Turf War map, but I got to be honest, if a team secures the second Ultra Signal, it is nice to see their respective idol group who support them appear on the stage in the back, wearing their Now Or Never Seven outfits, announce their presence with their sign-off catchphrase, and start raining Fizzbangs down on the map while performing a remix of their respective Splatfest song: Color Pulse for Off The Hook, City Of Color for the Squid Sisters, and Anarchy Rainbow for Deep Cut.
I was more interesting in listening to Three Wishes at the Giant Clam Stage anyway, and I can always catch videos of other players playing the map here on RUclips to make up for not playing the map much myself because I was more interested in the concerts.

Had so many matches where I was just decimated and couldn’t leave spawn or got 0 splats. Honestly soured me on picking the game back up.
And yeah, all that effort for the hub only for the gameplay to be standard splatfest fare only with another tricolor map that sucks ass for attackers (I only ever played attacker when I got to play tricolor) also sucked. Had a match where the defenders just spawncamped me and my partner the whole match while the other two attackers got the ultra signal twice for free and won.
I kinda miss Splatoon 1 where the skill ceiling was lower and I could actually compete with people as opposed to now where I have to play against people who have 10,000 hours across all 3 games. But right now the series is basically unplayable after like the first few months after all the people my skill level leave, so I don’t know if I have any interest in a Splatoon 4.

The way they could fix this is to allow players from different teams match together.
And the way to calculate clouts? Individual gain!
Eg: one team consist of 2 players team A, 1 B and 1 C. We will not know which team they are from to avoid throwing/teaming. And we only see which team they are from during result screen and individual clouts gain will factor from there instead of 4 players on one Team against 4 players on another Team.
This alone solves Mirror matches BUT also solves a niche problem I have: me and my friend almost never on the same team
I wanna be with them and allowing us from different teams to play together is a better way to play together than forcing someone's opinion to vote for team they don't want just to play with them.

If youre on the most popular team you'll see a lot of mirrors, but when you're in a mirror, another person on your team is fighting the less popular team in a multiplier battle. It's just that sometimes, like this splatfest, the most popular team was losing more than winning them, making it look like the other teams "got" more

We also have to keep in mind that the 3 Splatfest modes were available from the start. The majority are going to shift through all 3 and it's going to be divided unevenly, with large groups in one mode over the others. Especially with 10x battles having been so frequent in this one (people will want to try and get that 100x with their Splatfest shells).
Matchmaking is still a mess though no doubt about that. Splatfests seems to look for a lot of things like Splatfest Ranking, Power Levels, and team popularity, and maybe more. It just feels like too much without a sweet spot.
Ever noticed how a Splatfest can start off difficult, but the next day it's suddenly a cake walk? It's a weird little thing.

The amount of mirror matches I got was actually saddening.Though I understand my individual clout won't have an impact in the grand scheme of things, it was still very disheartening having to play mirror match after mirror match of TURF WAR (a mode I despise), feeling like I couldn't contribute anything to the most important fest in Splatoon 3. Matchmaking definitely NEEDS a fix.
Splatfests are meant to be a celebration, yet this one just felt empty to me. As far as battles are concerted, at least. The venue and the performances were moving and you could tell a lot of effort had gone into them!
Truly the most bittersweet Splatfest I've ever played.

regarding the d pad inputs, we need one to group up the team. if you can get everyone together to go into the fight with you then that's already a step forward. sure in splatoon functionally being together sucks, but it allows you to ensure your entire time is ready to get into a fight

I think that opting out of mirror matches sounds good on paper, but extending the amount of waiting that a large number of the players would have to do would slow the energy of the fest itself. It just wouldn't feel right.
What I think they should do instead is give a big reward to the players that win a mirror match, like a mystery box from the catalogue, or a free roll of the gacha machine, or some ability chunks. Something that will motivate players to actually play and enjoy the mirror match while they wait to get into non-mirror matches.

The option to opt out of mirror matches is something I would love to have. I understand why they were implemented back in Splatoon 1, since the wait time to just play the game can be unbearably long without them, but most of the time, I'd rather take the wait than fight my own teammates for no other purpose than points toward my Splatfest title.

The mock up idea thing should have been official since day one. I wasn’t able to join Grandfest, but I was rooting for Past. Even then, I felt so bad for Present for the mirror matches and Future for getting nothing in the results.
When I checked the modes Past won at despite the loss in votes, my jaw dropped and it was not common for me to do that. Was there a Splatfest where a team won all three battle modes before this one?

Personally I loved it. I got emotional with the performances and also the Tricolor battles on the final day when the Ultra Signals determined the music of the Idols and had special Now or Never versions. Although I must say that I was on Team Present and we lost so many times like constantly over and over and over. At some point I even started to think that I'm the problem, like I'm not a Pro but not a beginner either and my Splat Rates and Ink Rates weren't the problem either but we just kept losing and losing. On the first day it was good but the other days were like that for me. And normally during non-Splatfest matches I tend to win often with the way I play so I don't know, it's just something that stood out to me because I lost SO many games! But all in all it was the best splatfest ever for me even though Past won but I'll give them the win and am happy for them 😊

I had a great time with the grandfest at the end of the day. I ended up on team present (because my friends outvoted me on the team to pick, and I wanted past) so we got a lot of mirror matches. Weirdly enough though, I didn’t get almost any mirror matches on Thursday or Friday, all my mirror matches were on Sunday before the event ended, the whole afternoon was filled with them. I had insane luck with x10s and x100s this splatfest though, getting like 20 x10s and 5 x100s, even getting 2 x100s back to back which was wild, especially considering I’d only had maybe 4 x100s total in the two years this game has been out despite participating in every splatfest. The vibes of the concert were immaculate and the previous games’ splatfest music sent me on a nostalgia trip, so it was a wonderful time overall!

The thing about mirror matches is that they may not be such an easy thing to fix. A lot of the time when games have have problems like this, especially multiplayer games, is that from the dev's own testing and experience, the solution they landed on is simply the least bad option that they had. Often times players will say they wish things were another way, for understandable reasons, but when devs have tested those ideas they find that players end up not liking them in practice and they start quitting the game, making the problems worse. I don't know if this is for sure true with Splatfest matchmaking, but this issue does sound pretty similar to other times when a game has a problem that on the surface seem so simple to fix.

How many tears did you shed while watching the Grand Festival concert, Chase? This is so memorable and amazing. Make sure you got some photos before it ended yesterday 🥹🦑
The Fizzbangs we're my favorite djring Splatfests when it came in a new update, but it was pretty to see them pop like fireworks. I remembered getting a Conch Clash twice and failed 🥲
I was kinda hoping to get that plushie you see in Grand Festival booths, mann. Concerts in game are so fun feeling like you're actually attending it in person.
I definitely agree with your best response to Splatfests, changes, and final results. Mirror battles are often, I try to pick a team that's your favorite topic which is supposed to be the whole genre of a voting poll. But, popularity I never expected it would be so much mirror matches.
But yes, there should be an option to sit out of a upcoming mirror match. It also affects the point system of tallying the numbers.
Great video response 🫧✨ Sad Splatoon 3's story journey is ending so quickly. Best adventure ever. 🦑

I think I preferred the splatfests in Splatoon 2: -the community felt less aggressive back then, - the fact that it was only 2 team was better (my opinion), -and chaos vs order was much better as a final fest (my opinion) .
+( the specials stages that we had in the second part of the fests were very cool)

Personally, I'm on the opposite side when it comes to Grand Splatlands Bowl.
I like how Defender heavy it is since that's the point of Tricolor to me, for both Attacking teams to work together and take down the team with more players.
The platform for the Ultra Signal raising only when people are on it gives a good time to think on how you should approach it.
Should you constantly be up on it to make people climb up to the signal but it's right there for them to take, or should you leave it down so it's higher up but you need to climb if someone tries to take it?
The music for sure made the stage even better for me, it's the one time I didn't mind as much to get mirror matches in Tricolor.
Even though I was on Team Present, I did not mind at all who won the Splatfest and had a complete blast with it, even managing to get Ruler +12 during the event, which is the highest I've ever gotten.
It's my 2nd favorite Splatfest, right behind Chaos Vs. Order simply because I think Shifty Stations were handled better and the theme was better as well imo.

Tricolor matches is the most misunderstood mode. The new map wasn't defender focused (like most of the maps) and the central platform made a good gimmick. As a defender if you stay on the platform you risk to give attackers a huge advantages if they were able to get you splatted. And if the attacker is the one who made the platform moving up, that means that there are no defenders ready to watch the signal, so you make their route longer to get.
Also I was team future and I only got like 2 mirror matches in Turf and 3/4 on Tricolor, it wasn't a huge issue for me.

    Mirror Matches:
They are good for compensation so that players can at least advance their Splatfest Title. Players should however have their option and prevent the game from forcing them. If I say "no I don't want battles without impact", the game should offer me that, regardless of it taking even 4 minutes or a bit longer.
The next problem is the Squid Parties, which might not be a game coding problem but it is an indirect result of players not being informed that Pro mode is not "Solo equivalent of Open". It is competitive and players should therefore never engage in that. It gets especially infuriating in Pro, where losses still add or take Splatfest power from the individual player and those instigating a squid party are actually risking a temporary ban if they do it regularly. If a player, especially in Pro, loses a lot of their Splatfest Power or the Conch Shells, since Squid parties also happen in Conch Clashes for some reason, the Player is very likely to report the party for "Intentionally Not Contributing", which will eventually result in temp-bans if enough cases occur. So please be careful. Not respecting the players who want progress, especially in Pro, is risking a temporary ban. I know the "fun and all" argument since there is no Clout but it is "fun" at the expense of those who want to play normally. If one player is against it they simply feel mocked by being ignored.
And lastly the Matchmaking. The Grand Festival is ultimate proof of the blatantly horrible workings behind it. With Team Present surpassing 50% of votes there should have been a technical chance of 0% that Team Past, but especially Team Future with 17%, getting even a single Mirror Match.
There needs to be a whole revamp behind a lot of things as everything that comes with too many Mirror Matches is just a let-down, especially for those not playing with groups/friends.

  • @Lyubimov89

My argument for fizzbangs is: gameplay wise, they have little impact but almost no cost (just takes time to throw). Plus their number ramps up as the match goes. So the farther into the match, the more fireworks are going off and the more chaotic the colors.
    …Like it’s a festival?…

I agree on the Mirror Matches being dumb. Honestly the defense for them I hate seeing is "Well if they counted for points then the most popular team would win regardless and it wouldn't be fair!" Hello? HAVE NONE OF YOU HEARD OF PERCENT SCALING!? It can be coded where a mirror match still gives points/clout, but at a MUCH lower percent considering the 8 people. Like 0.01x the amount or something. Just make it so that they mean *something* if they're gonna be a continuing thing. And if implemented early enough in the game's life, the point value can be further scaled back for future Splatfests if the popularity thing becomes a problem. Either that, or an Opt-out option like Chase mentioned would work.
That aside, I largely enjoyed my time with the Grand Festival. Music was awesome, the venue was wild, I liked the Tricolor map, and I actually got my first EVER 100x victory. Made sure to get plenty of screenshots for that one. Sad that said contribution didn't do much (Team Future rep here, I answer the question instead of picking by idol), but it was still fun. Hoping they do something similar for larger-scaled fests in future games.
