I don’t know who is telling you to skip episodes but ignore them there’s gold in every episode
Yeah people are just impatient and have a specific moment in mind they want him to react to. A couple was reacting to south park and the fans convinced them to skip the first 3 seasons lol. They didnt understand anything or who any of the characters were. Its a bad way to consume media when you just skip the part that establishes the series. Makes no sense.

Karl is often ALMOST right - he confused the death of Plato with the death of Aeschylus, who was allegedly killed by a bird dropping a tortoise on his head.

Horrible Histories did a sketch about Aeschylus and the eagle dropping a tortoise on his head. Even better was that my Latin Summer exam at school we got given a bit of text to translate, and it was the story about Aeschylus. Everybody in the class was confused af "Tortoise? Eagle? What the hell". Thanks Horrible Histories.
Yes, he got the story very confused. But quite aside from that, it's the Pilkington logic that is lamentable here. How does dying from a bizarre and unforeseeable accident possibly point to a lack of intelligence?

@@stevious7278 I've been saying this for years and never heard another echo the sentiment. Yes, the Americans who are so against the concept seem ti be the older generation. A generation brought up in the heat of cold war paranoia, taught to hate and fear "communism" as the ultimate, anti-American evil. So they see anything remotely socialist in philosophy as part of some kind of sinister and insidious ideology, (whilst not noticing they live in a country with one of the most unionised workforces in the world, but never mind).
They really need to shake off this mentality. Universal healthcare is an altruistic policy that to me, is one of the pillars of civilization. Frankly I don't consider a country that doesn't have it to be particularly civilized.
Americans who oppose it think of it as "paying for other people to be sick" without thinking of the vice versa, without a modicum of empathy for those in need who by ill fate can't afford the care they need, without thinking they might ever need it themselves. I can't tell if it's selfishness, shortsightedness, or just hopeless optimism. Anyway, I'm glad to say, from the Americans I know, the younger generation seem to have thought it through rather more.
I would encourage all Americans though, to look into the costs of healthcare in your country vs others and see how much the industry is screwing you. Even compared to private healthcare in other countries, you are being bled white by an industry raking in billions by the day from your suffering. And they've tricked you into being proud of it. Doesn't look very dignified from over here. You at least must care about that.

I understand that you agree with Karl on the medical points in this episode because of the American health care system but Karl doesn't have that reason to not have it done. It's free in the UK and takes hardly any time at all so it's his own embarrassment/stubbornness that's stopping him. It's like he doesn't trust the fact they've studied at medical school for 5+ years or been a practicing doctor for X amount of years on top of that. I know he's had it done now but it took Ricky and Steve intervening so much for him to have it done when he could of just sucked it up and gone himself, but ya gotta love him
Going to the doctor is free here in Ireland! And most of if not all of Europe, saves a lot of lives and gives everyone peace of mind...which I think is a big point people ignore when they argue against free healthcare

Karls great at playing to his own stereotype and perception of himself. Does he really believe a lot of what he says? yes and no. In the case of monkey news, definitely no but its his time to tell the news and he'll try his best to make it funny and entertaining. That closing line in this episode for example, great play on words and it's annoying when people just take him for an idiot when really he knows what he's saying and just playing along most of the time

This is why Karl is so great. Yes he's a bit of an idiot, and has really odd logic, but he's relatable, and a decent guy who doesn't mind speaking his mind.
I agree and when you think about the fact he was a radio production manager at 31 and he has had many TV shows since and he’s being working without Gervais for a long time now. Karl is a very successful person.

Imma be legit here. The naked woman story is relatable with me, I live on the second floor of my building and from my bedroom I can see like, 3-4 buildings including bathrooms and bedrooms. So, let's say, 2 houses per apartment, bathroom and bedroom windows, on some the kitchen too. I can see into like, 30 windows from my bedroom.

Eh. They’re on par with one another. For the XFM Shows to be better you’re essentially saying the chemistry between the three guys is artificial and made as an act that they tweaked over the years.
@@andyc6542 Nah I think the XFM shows tell more of a story because you hear them talk about their lives and you always sort of know whats going on. They always reference stuff said earlier or something happening in their lives. One things for sure though, Karls boiler will always be broken.
XFM shows are the true genius, the Ricky Gervais show is simply XFMs best bits put into a cartoon, not to mention that XFM has around 5 seasons of about 10+ episodes each and each episode is around a hour long.
Bow down to the genius raw material that is XFM.

Ricky is actually wrong. A Bird did mistake Plato's bald head for a rock and dropped a tortoise onto it to crack the shell so it would die and it could eat it. Not an Egg, though. It's a very rare thing to happen but not impossible if it was a high enough height that the Bird was mistaken. I don't see why Ricky found it hard to believe a Bird was looking for rocks, they think and feel as all beings do. RIP to the poor Tortoise and to Plato.

I reckon you should check out Karl Pilkington being a guest on Sunday Brunch, its a morning chat show. With cooking and that. Its more mellow, and you see another side of Karl. Its not all extremely funny but more of an insight into the man. And he is really witty and sometimes clever, and ofc he is older. Some of it is more recent. Nothin wrong with that. But i think he comes across as a fuller person when you watch those.
I also like seeing him interact with people other then Ricky and Steve, and the people on his travels .... A different dynamic. Still funny thou. There are some compilations.

It does sadden me how American health service is not paid for from your taxes. Hopefully one day it will change to become like that like here in Europe. Health should be paid for from taxes before EVERYTHING else. Nobody should have to die from something because they can’t afford health bills.

These animated episodes are edited down from the original podcast audio. The original podcasts were about 8-10 minutes longer, and you can listen to them on youtube. This is why there are so many cuts and when you asked why they didn't explain something to Karl, they probably did, it was just edited out.
Yeah Karl did make a good point with the prostate, it can't be that complicated just pressing in a concern area. It's the same as examining your balls, Or a woman examining her breasts, You don't need a medical degree, for the first step.
