Thanks Dom! I’ve been drinking around with iPad recording for over a year now with reasonable success but what I saw you do here has opened a floodgate of ideas for me. I’m picking up a MODX today. Nicely done.
True to the definition of “workstation”, the Kronos has an integrated sequencer for recording both MIDI and audio tracks. Though I’m a dyed-in-the-wool Logic user, I find the built-in sequencer handy for quickly putting down ideas and improvisations when I’m playing the Kronos away from my computer rig. That said, even in our present culture of digital music-making where DAWs seem to predominate, some musicians still prefer the integration of a sequencer in the same unit that they’re performing on. And for live or touring situations, the sequencer is great for playback of backing tracks; even MIDI files and audio prepared on a DAW can be imported to the Kronos' sequencer via USB memory stick. And of course, you can also play the Kronos while the sequencer is running. Hardware buttons are used for switching between the Kronos’ various modes (Program, Combination, Sequencer, Global, Internal SSD disk access, etc.), but for most programming operations, the Kronos center around its built-in touchscreen. The touchscreen itself is rather large, bright, and overall very impressive-looking. But many of the Kronos’ pages are quite crammed with information, hence the size of some of the on-screen text and software buttons are definitely on the smaller side of large. While you can’t pop a larger screen into the Kronos, Korg has recently released free editing software for both Mac and PC which replicates the view of Kronos’ touchscreen on your computer monitor. Not only is this great for relieving eye strain during intense periods of programming, but it allows for editing with the familiarity of a mouse or trackpad. can the same be done in Montage
Yeah bro! I few months back I was working like this due to a water heater leak in my basement. I had the Montage in the kitchen, and was recording into Cubasis, such a smooth workflow. Dope vid man!
Could you guys do a tutorial if you using the Yamaha Modx6 with a MacBook or and Mac computer along with Logic Pro X? I understand Cubase n Yamaha are in bed together but there’s a lot of Logic users out there and lots of them are musicians on the road. Showing them how their Modx and MacBook would make a good couple would be really good
To use the Yamaha modx internal sound card with your daw you have to have monitors connected to the Yamaha modx. In FL Studio I couldn't get any sound when I choose the Yamaha Steinberg driver until Bad Mr from Yamaha said because you're using the Yamaha's built in soundcard everything goes through the modx so monitors have to be connected to it for sounds from your daw to go back and forth.
Yamaha Steinberg drivers uses audio-interface integrated inside Yamaha MODX (or Montage), so it is expected to connect speakers to audio out of Yamaha synth, and not to a computer. In the same way, if you use external audio-interface (USB or Thunderbolt), you also have to connect speakers to audio of out on the external card, and not to audio out of a PC.
Thanks for the video. Connected to iPad with Apple camera kit, Cubasis 2.8.8 running. Tried both ‘standalone’ and ‘audio rec on daw’ in quick setup on the modx. Cubasis recognises the modx in audio setting but still no sound going through.

Cubasis and Cubase are very similar. Yes, in Cubase you have to setup the MODX as an audio interface but this is a set and forget procedure. Hey there! I love your videos. I’m having some trouble while recording on cubasis with my MODX. I have recorded all my tracks as MIDI in Cubasis 2 on my iPad. I hear the playback of all tracks in a song through Cubasis if listening through headphones or or amp output of my MODX BUT when doing a mixdown and share as WAV file, can’t hear anything. I'm having issue. For some reason when my modx is playing through my pc. The software only records the sounds. Not the beat from the rythem pattern. Weird. As if the rythem pattern is just a separate added device.
in the midi settings Midi I/O on the MODX (quick setup) you have to enable ARP Midi out' to ON to get the Rythm midis on the Daw.- That works with me on Ableton setting Modx as external instrument.

Dom/Anyone- what was the MODX set on? Stand alone or Audio to Daw? You said no set up was necessary and I followed your audio set up path in Cubasis 2.7 and I got NOTHIN'. Arrrrugh. Using USB cable. Thanks!
Does Cubasis detect the MODX? I had mine set on Stand-alone like it comes from the factory. Did you try reconnecting the cable to the adapter? This things can be finicky sometimes :)
@@DomSigalas Hey Dom Wow thanks so much for your fast reply! I don't know if this was a work around or if it was supposed to be set up like this, but I found that by turning on my PRIVACY PERMISSION on ipad to use MIC in Cubasis on the ipad worked great for getting the audio in. Gads. These little things that hold up the field goal getting kicked. LOL!!! Thanks again! SCORE!
Why (in theory) would I choose to hook the MODX to an ipad when it can plug into a PC and record midi and audio while also having access to dozens of other plugins controlled with a mouse and keyboard. I do not understand.
It's just another option for those that don't have PCs or Macs. My main audio rig is a PC but I also like to use my iPad for jotting down ideas quickly so this is convenient and simple.
Thank you, very nice! Can you also record drum sounds of a "kit" on individual track, if you edit/setup the kit in MODX accordingly? Or is that only possible with one drum sound by one recording?
Hey Dom. Is this process the same for recording audio on a computer too? I use Logic but I'm having a hard time finding videos on that. Thanks for the videos. Really great stuff.
Its alright having videos like these but you leave out information about connecting studio monitors or headphones to the back of the modx to hear the audio. We're thinking the modx isn't working because we don't get any audio and we end up not using it. Please for sanity sake give us 100% not 80%.
I can see that there's android version now available. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steinberg.cubasis3&hl=en Anybody knows if it can work with montage/modx in the same setup? 10x

in the midi settings Midi I/O on the MODX (quick setup) you have to enable ARP Midi out' to ON to get the Rythm midis on the Daw.- That works with me on Ableton setting Modx as external instrument.
@@DomSigalas I have a Modx6 hooked to my pc with usb and monitors hooked to the modx6. Using the internal audio interface. I will try as you suggested. Thankyou :)
SCORE!
@@DomSigalas Thanks Dom for your swift reply! The trick was to turn on permissions to use the MIC in Ipad for Cubasis. :D
Why didn't they put this in genos like cakwalk they should built it in the keyboard so we don't have to do adapter
Can you connect yamaha psr two?
Thank you, very nice! Can you also record drum sounds of a "kit" on individual track, if you edit/setup the kit in MODX accordingly? Or is that only possible with one drum sound by one recording?
Hey Dom. Is this process the same for recording audio on a computer too? I use Logic but I'm having a hard time finding videos on that. Thanks for the videos. Really great stuff.
Yes, it is very similar but you have to use the MODX as you audio interface. I’m going to try and make a video for computer recording as well!
Wow just wow
OMG you can do this for the cheap with an Yamaha PSS A50 :)
Fantastic video Dom, i know what to share tomorrow on Moessieurs Facebook page ;) Thank you.
Its alright having videos like these but you leave out information about connecting studio monitors or headphones to the back of the modx to hear the audio.
We're thinking the modx isn't working because we don't get any audio and we end up not using it. Please for sanity sake give us 100% not 80%.
Thanks :)
nice but i have mx 49
more video
I can see that there's android version now available.
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steinberg.cubasis3&hl=en
Anybody knows if it can work with montage/modx in the same setup?
10x
Hi Daniel, I've tried it and it works but it's not officially supported (at least yet!).
@@DomSigalas thanks!
It sounds the same as if it did with some good plugins ... nothing fantastic here
Hi Christian, the point of the video was not about the sounds, but how to sequence. There are quite a few things the MODX can do that plugins can't ;)
@@DomSigalas ...for example?
@@DomSigalas That would actually be a great video you can do. I am also looking at 2 routs: a good midi with a plugin like next 3 , or modx6. price was it can be very similar ( nexus basic)
You look like seth rollins
why not Samsung tab S8 Ultra, why just iPad? Shame of you Yamaha!
Because iOS has much better audio support than an Android does.
Routing is always pronounced rooting in English 😀
Robert Everett hahaha true, I usually pronounce it this way, don't know why it came out American this time ;)
Can i save my Sound as Wave or mp3 after i have recorded?
Where did you buy that Lighting-USB cable? Is it necessary to be original or it can be another generic?
I would definitely go for the original Apple adapter just to be safe- I didn’t have much luck with third party ones :)
@@DomSigalas Could you send the link of the item, please?? I didn’t find it on apple.com
