O my geez. You know how long it has taken me to know how to set the scenes. A long time. Thank you so much for this video and keeping it simple.
EXCELLENT! and THANK YOU for keeping this simple, I feel inspired now to tackle the rest. Being given too much info at the start of using this machine just put me off even wanting to try. NOW I see it isn't too bad after all? Here I go....:)
I'm never going to use this but it's really clearly explained, as well or better than any other MODX/Montage video I've seen so far. Thank you!
Why not
Rene from Holland here. Please make more tuturials. We as users love them verry much en need them.
Very useful and easy to follow. Thank you!
THIS IS A Great simple tutorial!
Thank you so much ❣️🥰❣️🥰...its really great...its very helpful for every Montage new users ......
Brilliant tutorial, thanks
Great video. Thank you! Can you set up a foot switch to toggle through scenes?
Yes, it's described in this article - www.yamahasynth.com/modx-category/mastering-modx-performance-basics-2-and-the-live-set
Great video, thanks!
Hey Francis… love this video! Made some some performances today for Bon Jovi Tribute, but is there a newer video from you using the new Keyboard Control function for scenes?
No, this was made before they introduced that function. Pretty much the same concept. Just use Keyboard Control instead of Mute. This conserves polyphony better.
So helpful. Thanks 🙏
Great tutorial please do more
Thank you sooo much!
feed my head!!! I love it!!
Thank You for this tutorial! It's very helpful.... I have a question... I see that you are in the "Mixing 2" section... Is there a difference between Mixing 1 & Mixing 2 when setting up scenes?
Yes, there are different parameters available on each. The ability to mute the part is only possible in Mixing 2.
Great!!!!!!100 Please upload more
Hi, can i ask please, just after buying a modx 7, How do i save or lock in the scene sounds, and do you iniatially start with a performance, & then set.scene settings within that performance. Thanks.
Super video, thank you :-)
Glad you liked it!
This is really dope........ How about making scene setup with beats. Like someone is performing in party and prepared the set?
Think you sir! Exactly what I was after!
Excellent!
GREAT tutorial, Narf! Thank you. So do the preset scenes become my default when I power up ... or do I need to call this up somehow? If I do have to call this up ... how do I do that on the MODX? Many thanks!
Stephen Lennartz the scene you save along with the Performance becomes the default.
Super brilliant sir
Thanks for the great videos. I'm looking to create performances with multiple scenes with multiple sounds... Can you save multiple multipart instruments as scenes???
Using your video I've mastered scenes for single parts either with mute or keyboard assign to create fluidity but when I attempt to do this with the many great multi-part sounds it doesn't work. I carefully follow the same process but many of the parts don't play and I get a basic sound. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks, yes you can. This tutorial was made prior to the OS version 3 update for the Montage. You can now use the new Keyboard Ctrl On/Off parameter in Scene mode instead of the Mute function. This saves on polyphony and also allows you to switch sounds on and off seamlessly.
Thanks heaps, very simple and no bs
Yeah, I don't like tutorials that waste your time. I try to be as direct to the point with these as I can. This one's a bit dated though as the KBD CTRL method instead of MUTE is now the way to segregate scenes.
Thank you
Another question When I make live sets sometimes the output is per live set different. Is there a way to overcome this?
Thank you!
Somewhere, someone is looking for exactly what you have to offer. Don't give up hope
Yes someday I might be successful and get some sales at narfsounds.com
Question how do you make peeeew sound just as you did in treasure from buno mars? Miley sirus in Party in the usb also has such a sound. Could you help me out?
Can you make a demo video on the MODX showing how to to create a song step by step using
the scenes, style parts, drums, bass, etc,, arps, rhythms, patterns sequencer, etc?
8
wow thanks so much!
thank you
Great Tutorial, but what about to store the ARP status? I would like to store on SCENE 1 the instrument with ARP OFF and for SCENE 2 the same instrument with ARP ON, I was not able to store this configuration on scene, is that possible?
your a life saver
Are you able to change your keyboard splits between scenes or would you have to do that by assigning a second set of piano and strings for example and turn them on and the original off to accomplish this?
You can't assign split points to move along with the scene changes as it's a fixed setting. You will have to assign a duplicate set of the sounds and set a different split point for them just as you described.
Legend !!
Can you do this still when you want different pad sounds for a different song instead of having to go into category to change it mid set
Can you change between scenes and still have the previous scene sound holding without an abrupt stop? Basically have seamless sound switching?
Yes it is. This demo was done before the update that allowed you to do that. Instead of setting up the scenes with mute settings, use Keyboard Control instead.
Is it possible to have more than 1 sample in one scene? For example I wanna play strings in my left hand, and then have the keyboard split into a Dual sample in my right hand and at the same time have an arpeggio
Can we use more than one sound for each scene ? i.e. Piano+string on scene 1, or split bass+piano on scene 2.. Thank you so much
Yes definitely! That's how my sounds are set up. Check out my many demos here in my channel.
Can you add other things like reverb, delays, distortions, EQ, compression, etc?
Yes you can
how do you save them and recall what you saved after the keyboard is shut off?
Press Store and save the Performance
What if I want to do this but I don’t want to use single part voices?
But you're limited to 8 "voices" in a performance? Considering that you layer sounds, is there any other way to get 16 voices(parts)? It's just a question... I thought we could choose different voices in each scene, not only the 8 pre-choosen ones... So the scenes are dependents on the voices you choosed in the 8 parts?! So, what's the difference to the live set?
Exactly what I was thinking. Live set does Exactly that
I'm wanting to know this too
My problem is I cannot store different semitone values in different scenes in a single performance. Is there any way to do it?
Duplicate your parts and have alternate transpositions for each and setup mute or keyboard control accordingly
When I select the scene button the menu I get does not have mute in it..please help
Mixing 2 Tab in Scenes
Even I, a Japanese who doesn't understand English, could understand it. Please tell us more about various settings of MONTAGE. Thank you
Excited fingers
I can't get it to work. Silence when I hit scene 2
Can i use multiple voices on a scene
Yes
Why dont you use the Live set if the main aim was to play one sound at a time?
The main aim is to demonstrate how to setup scenes
Is it possible to change scenes with a pedal?
Yes it is.
@@narfsounds Thanks! I also found a description here - www.yamahasynth.com/modx-category/mastering-modx-performance-basics-2-and-the-live-set
excellent, but can you show how you save it at the end?
Just press STORE and save as a new Performance
@@narfsounds so it only remember the scenes if i save it as a new performance
Correct, you've essentially changed it so it will have to be stored and saved as a new User performance. Presets and Library sounds cannot be overwritten.
And safe a lot of memory
No let’s Sort this out now that’s what I’m having trouble with
why chose Mixing 2 and not Mixing 1?
Mixing 2 allows to you to mute parts, Mixing 1 does not. This video is outdated, the better way is to use KBD CTRL instead of Mixing 2 to mute parts.
Great idea but couldn't you just SOLO each channel? that would automatically mute the otheres.
Yes you can... there's going to be a few more parts to this video building up on this Performance where you'd be able to use the Super Knob to bring other sounds in and out where in that case, muting wouldn't be ideal.
I can the PHILIPPINE CENTENNIAL commemorative plate on the upper right side of this video...
Add new video for montage m scene please add and new features
It’s the same, scene creation has not changed.
NO NO NO doing it this way will cut off the previous sound abruptly when switching scenes. Instead, turn keyboard control off on each part you're NOT using in each scene. That way your sounds will seamlessly change when you switch scenes. Stay away from that mute button!
Yes, This video was produced before Keyboard Control was a selectable option in scene creation prior to the OS update that introduced it. Keyboard Control is now the way to do it for seamless scene changes. However sometimes you can have hanging notes or stuck pitch bend values when using KBD CTRL in scene changes.
