The Yamaha Montage and MODX have 8 SCENES buttons. They are used to activate variations of a Performance. Every Scene has a different set of parameters and on/off switches via which subtle or dramatic sound changes can be made.
In this video we'll have a look how to switch Parts on/off in a Scene. This makes it possible to change instruments, say from piano to organ, if both are available as a Part in the active performance. Also our Phaser Insert Effect of the previous video can be switched on/off, using two Parts, one that has the Phaser and one that has not.
I saw the title and had to jump to this one ahead of others. I needed to turn parts on and off based on midi channels I'm controlling on external synth. Using the sliders for volume on external were not working well due to some lag going through a midi merge. This allowed me to have only controlling synth on scene1, only external synth channel 2 on scene 2, and both on scene 3!! Exactly what I needed Thanks!!
Thanks for your feedback, nice to hear that the video helped you out.
I have worked my way through the previous 19 videos, learned something useful in every single one, going to keep going and watch them all. Thanks for doing these. You could package them and sell them as a instructional course for MODX/Montage users ! Yamaha should at least hire you .......
probably one of the best modx videos out there
Thank you. I am a new synth and modx user. There's so much to learn. I appreciate what you do.
Thanks you ! i didn't understand why i didn't have the sss... Thé "mute" was m'y mistake.😂
Excellent
I din't need to store the scenes, if manipulated via touchscreen. Only store the performance.
Hi Rudy! I recently downloaded some new patches, purchased them from a sound library. My question is - I know how to copy and exchange a part within a performance, but how do you copy a part in order to make a NEW performance building on that part? I haven't been successful so far. Is it even possible? By the way, your videos are amazing, soooo appreciated by a fairly new use of the MODX, much better than the manual.
The way I do this is to press STORE to save the Performance under a new name and then further edit / add / delete Parts from there.
Thank you!! Brilliant and simple...feel silly I didn't think of that! @@rudyshobbychannel
Hello... I have a yamaha montage 6. How do I assign the small buttons under the sliders to act as "MUTE" for individual tracks? Also...how do I use the sliders themselves to act as volume for individual tracks...Is it even possible to do this.. I would greatly appreciate your help...ThankS.
Nice, can i ask what.organ sound that was, had.a fast rotor on it. Thanks
I don't remember which one it was.
Is it possible to change between Scenes using footswtich?
As far as I know: no. Look "Utility - Settings - MIDI I/O"... "FS Assign" shows you the options you have.
Yes you can, CC#92 is what is used to control the scene change. so set your peddle to CC#92.
@@avishramkissoon9670 do you change on the utility midi fs assign? Do you change scene cc too. Any help would be great. Thank you
I love the tip about manipulating the keyboard control, rather than the mute button when switching between scenes. This fixed a continuity issue I’ve been struggling with recently. Thanks for making these videos, I plan to watch many more!
Hi Rudy. I have a performance where part 1 is a piano on MODX and part 2 is a sound from an external midi device (Nord organ). I am trying to set up a scene where I can toggle between the 2 sounds. It does not seem to work the way toggling 2 internal sounds works. It is making me use the sliders to get the sound to play on external instrument. It is almost as if the part volumes are not transmitting through midi. Any suggestions?
Does it not work with 2 scenes where the only difference is the volume levels of the Parts?
Nice paaienno 😂
