      Hi Garen, nice video. You mentioned you did not like the volume bars in thinkorswim and that could be because your volume bars are preset and a preset color. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe you are looking for this: 1) Go to Edit Studies and on the left search for VolumeAvg 2) Add VolumeAvg to your list of studies (it is ok because this is a lower chart Volume study) 3) click Apply and Ok and look at your chart again. Is that what you want? (if it is I saved you $180 haha) 4) Now remove the preset volume bars (what I am about to describe is easier to see if you open one of your charts to full view) 5) click on the Cog (Chart Settings) which is to the right of the laboratory beaker image (Edit Studies). Once you click on Chart Settings at the top look for the tab called Equities. 6) once in the Equities tab, look right and UNCHECK the box next to Show Volume Subgraph and then at bottom click Apply and Ok. And you are all set. Now because your other charts were already open prior to this change you will need to go into each chart's chart setting Equities tab and uncheck the Show Volume Subgraph box and also Add VolumeAvg study. You may also want to save a copy of your workspace so in upper right hand corner under Setup click Save Workspace As just as a backup copy. I do hope that helps and is what you are looking for.

    Garen you can definitley change the colours of your Volume bars to Red and Green, simply Maximize one of the cells, click on the Chart Set-up wheel, click on Appearance, and then scroll down to Volume Bars, click on the Color as symbol ticks, be sure to click Apply and Okay as well,

    another option is to join the ascend trading room. my key message to you is to join a room to get trading ideas but i recommend you focus on reversals. looks for stocks that have been beaten up for days and take the first day to make a new high. put your stop at the low of the last day and your targets are the moving averages. Ustock is great for this type of trading.

    Hey I found this video interesting because I was picking up DCIX around the same time. Ended up talking to a friend who does trading full time and he couldn't really pull much up. I went through another one of my programs and ran a SEC check and there was an 8-K filed on them. What really caught my curiosity was how do shorts work when a stock is being split....like DCIX was. If anyone has the answer to that I'd love a response. This stock had been spit 1-7,1-6,then 1-3 i believe. So if I had bought in July at $300.00 then shorted them until their final split say 300/7=42.86/6=7.14/3=2.38 per stock. Then the fall to 0.62 which is another fall by 74% (Completely Organic,no split). So would this not be the ultimate short?
    **I was too new to trading to make the move as I had no experience with a long-term shorting. And I didn't want to essentially borrow $3000 and not know what would happen with it. That would've worked out to 10 shares originally,and 4838 shares at close.

    Good question; What moves a stock when there is no news. Answer: You haven't found the catalyst. A. Direct Mailing from a promoter B. SEC filing with certain dates, and agreements come into play. C. Company sector is perking up in general. (see heat maps) D. Twitter, and Facebook investment clubs ala' Techbuds, RH newbie throngs, Tim Sykes, Clay Trader, Warrior, Ascend Trading. and other blog investors following and cloning watch-list picks. Along with HFTers programing and MM playing ball with them its a crap shoot. The gravity of volume a least gives control back to the market some. Glad you made the connection to Ricky's group. Great to have others involved and share ideas. Thanks!

In this video you sell JNUG for a gain, and just a few minutes later (@20:30) you explain its dropping straight down and you sold at the right time. Hey man, I'm a starter at this. Love your vids. You mention that the think or swim software does not tell you if the volume peak are buyers or sellers but then stated that tier 2 tells you how many buyers and how many sellers. So do u still need that other software at the $172. If these particular tiers give u that info?

    • @tpks2542
      @tpks2542 6 лет назад

      Maori think about what volume is, Volume is when a stock is handed over from 1 person to another, aka trade, volume is amount of shares traded. It doesn't matter if volume was on a bullish or bearish candle stick, volume only means the amount of shares traded. To see how many buyers and how many sellers you have to look at level 2. No need to spend 174, Tim Sykes it same way as ThinkorSwim

  • @Remo-media
    @Remo-media 7 лет назад

    Hey Garen, I'm sure you've heard that both Dux and Tim Grittani credit their success in the market to their practice of recording stock data into spreadsheets to calculate the percentage probability of a stock, based on certain indicators. Dux boasted an 87% successful prediction I believe.
    This is the stuff they aren't selling in DVDs, weather its the secret source or just down to hours of data input I believe it is the next step to have success at this. I have been trying to crack this but seems counter productive to go from scanner to excel, I did find a way to import the data from finviz but they shut it down.
    I appreciate your videos I've been learning for over a year now you are refreshing my areas to study even though I knew you would drop the charts. Have you tried anything in excel yet or found a scanner that can export data? I'm using EquityFeed with no luck...

    • @GarenPhillips
      @GarenPhillips  7 лет назад

      Ya I've been paying extreme attention to any time they talk about spreadsheets. That's where their real money is money. I'd highly recommend reading "The Daily Trading Coach". In the latter part of the book he talks about proper spreadsheet documentation. He also talks about websites or software you can use to directly import intraday data into excel but I can't remember the websites. They all cost money and right now I'm just focusing on the basics but I'm definitely going to be doing videos over spreadsheets eventually.

    Around 9:30 where you liken an ETF to a bond, do you mean to say an index? A bond is a debt security, stocks and ETFs are equity securities. A bond is where you pay $1,000 +or- a premium or discount, typically get coupon payments, then receive your principal at the end of the bond's life. There are many types/variations of bonds.

      I think technical analysis still useful to find an entry price. But Fundamental analysis should give you the long term biased towards a company. Am I on the right tract. I've been investing like that for years now, learned this from someone who runs a small hedge fund.

      How can a hedge fund be small?
      Anyway, yes you are on the right track but what I ment is that quantitative analysis is used by investment firms nowadays bc the myths of resistance and support lines and how they work have been proven wrong. And all those flashy indicators and scaning services are useless aswell bc as a private investor the analysis to trade reaction time is way to slow given the pace of the big investment firms who are making thousands of micro trades in just a few moments induced by multi million dollar computer programs of which they have plenty with new input by ivy league trained statistics people, mathematicians and so on. All the money that is earned by private day trading ppl is straight up luck and gambling and the believe that they know what they are doing but they really don´t. Markets are not driven by how lines on a chart move they are moved by real sales reports, political environment, inflation rates and so forth.
      Thats really just how it is I started of as a day trading guy too at the age of 17 and made some money then lost some then made some again. But now I study Economics and Management in Oxford and have learnt that I practically was gambling all the way - no matter how fancy of a trading strategy or portfolio Management - in the long run they all lose.
      Don't want to tell anybody what to do but trading is pretty stupid - if you wanna invest do it in low cost ETF`s or something - even stock pick but let trading be

      Oh and about the whole "finding an entry price" - such thing as an entry price is a illusion because the market is always priced at the exact amount it should be - if you wanna know more about that you should google "market efficiency theory"

      Brian - I wish everybody just the best and if it is working for you, great. But I have seen people trading for months and years non stop under constant stress of not knowing whats going to happen and some loosing their life savings in just a few bad days so be carefull

    did you watch the last time warrior trading guy do the 100k in a month challenge from a $500 surtrader account?
    his first few trades like doubled or tripled his money lol. And then he just kept making bank, he was green like 15 days in a row or something and once he got $25k he moved to another trading site, i forgot which one. Are you planning on buying his course someday? just curious, ive been following warrior trading for a little while, and also ive been watching this "meir barak" guy on youtube. He has his own course i think and it's more expensive, but if you learn your stuff he actually gives you a fully funded account and you use his money to trade, and you keep a larger chunk of the profits, and he gets a little. I think it depends on the course you buy from him, i think the highest priced one, you keep like 95% of profits and get way more starting money from him. And he keeps 5% and you don't get the account until after he's taught you everything and feels confident in your understanding. I think he made his own trading platform too, it's called tradenet i think.

      he lost me when he called candle sticks bars and Level 2 numbers as number of buyers. That's such misinformation. Especially the new new people who are going to look at level 2 and think the bid/ask sizes are buyers instead of share amounts. I didn't even hear him mention either that you have to add 2 zeros to it. I learned that one from Warrior Trading. lol
