I appreciate the honest review. Having seen Priest about 12 times, the last show in April was really exceptional. The entire band seems to be really loose and just having fun. I wish they had played Riding On The Wind at our show in New Jersey. As always, Halford is off the charts for anyone, especially anyone his age.

Alot of Rock / Metal singers of Rob's age and younger have burnt out there voices but he still sounds fantastic for 72... The guitar pairings another story though, having mainly one lead player.

Lol, "sounds fantastic". It's all vocal tracks and those with a "backstage experience" are even given a chance to play with it; the engineer tells them he doesn't have to sing one note live. It's mostly lipsyncing.

Greetings from Ireland. Was at the Dublin show & can confirm it was very good. Historically robs audience interaction has never been that great (& I've seen them a few times) as they generally leave the music do the talking. Re sound, it was very good quality in 3 areana Dublin & from experience that is not always guaranteed. Saxons sound was also very good quality & Loud as f**k even to my now decades long concert damaged ears & they were brilliant also. I have not experienced concert crowds in your country but the Irish audience was very Lively & really got into the spirit of concert. Good to hear you had a good night though. Metal shows especially with Legendary acts rarely disappoint even when everything not always perfect.

    • @metalandrockzone
      @metalandrockzone  6 месяцев назад +1

Yes I think to be honest that Saxon was probably too loud, or their mix settings couldnt handle the loudness somehow. On Rob I think since he was going to work the crowd anyway then if he read the room he could have brought that in earlier. We have really really really dull crowds here often, specially for the older bands, it is much better when I go to the smaller venues and newer bands somehow. I think I might go and see JP again in July, its a wee 4 hour drive but this is just a band that warrants that! Thanks for watching.

Great review from you. I saw the package a few days earlier in Munich at the Olympiahalle and felt most of the same. Uriah Heep were great, they chose their few songs very well so that they presented both their history and new material. They had a top sound and came across excellently. I also liked Saxon, but they had the worst sound of the three, which was a bit to shrill. For my taste they played too many new songs and then couldn't play all of their classics later. Judas Priest was outstanding. Rob Halford is truly a vocal miracle, although I often find his high notes to be too compressed and mixed with too much reverb. Still a great setlist with lots of old and new songs. As I've seen, they also vary from gig to gig, which I find remarkable for such a large production. What I noticed positively about all three bands. Not only do they rely on their great old hits but they also present new material that shows that all three of them are active bands that still have something to offer.

    • @metalandrockzone

Yes Uriah Heep are one of those bands that have surprised me a lot in recent years after I started my channel and got more into them. Saw them 2022 and it was amazing. I like the new Saxon album but I think for this gig to work the crowd they would have done better by pulling it back a bit on the new stuff. And after seeing JP here I am thinking they got a few more years in them because Rob was so much better than I had dared to expect. Thanks for watching

Hey man! Im glad you had a nice time last night! I also enjoyed it. I was in the standing area in front of the stage 2nd row. I liked Uriah Heep i just wished they could play a few more songs. I also liked Saxon! At least in the front the sound of Saxon was good enough. They could also play a few more songs. Finally huge respect to Rob Halford to keep performing like this at 72 years old. I also felt kind of bored during those 3 songs. Btw I was so unlucky I lost 3 guitar picks. The 1st fell on my chest and on the ground the guy behind me took it. The 2nd fell in my legs the guy in front of me took it, and the 3rd flew next to me and the guy on my right grabbed it! 😂 What to do? Next time!
Also I don't know whats wrong with the Czech people, they stand still, don't move and if they touch you accidentally they keep apologizing non-stop. Come on people we are in a freaking awesome metal show!!! Lets get crazy for once!!!🤘😁🤘

I saw them in their hometown of Birmingham in March. The show was awesome. I also felt that the energy droped a little in the middle part of the show but I attributed this to an audience which was easily 50% people who were 50+ and that Saxon were so on form that they exhausted the audience before the main act started. Rob did quite a bit of audience interaction throughout but to me it seemed that many people in the audience were reluctant to take part. Glen Tipton came out to play Hell Bent for Leather, Metal Gods, and Living After Midnight which was brilliant. The show ended on high energy and with everyone onboard. A good night.
I just wish KK Downing would rejoin as I think KK and Richie Faulkner would make an amazing duo.

I liked your balanced assessment of your experience at this gig. I saw them on the first night in Glasgow and enjoyed the night immensely. I thought all 3 bands played great sets, and they exceeded my expectations on how good bands of their vintage could sound and perform. My personal criticisms are that our show was all-seated and quite pricey. I really didn't understand the point with the all-seated as most chose to stand anyway, but due to the rows of seats, there was never going to be any mosh or circle pits, which gave the crowd a more placid appearance than usual. Although there was certainly plenty of singing and throwing the horns up, it just wasn't what you'd normally expect at a Glasgow metal gig. Also, I feel the price probably restricted some fans from attending, particularly younger ones and they are usually the most energetic. In regards to the sound issues you had, it doesn't seem to have been an isolated issue. I also saw a number of complaints from people that attended Glasgow with similar problems, that had commented on my videos I posted on YT from the gig. Although, apart from a few moments when Brian Tatler's and Andy Sneap's lead playing was a little quiet, I didn't personally notice many sound issues from where I was standing with my ear protectors in 🤘

I have seen some of your videos actually and subbed your channel, some pretty good stuff. Weird that they have an all seater in Glasgow! I would expect that in Frankfurt or Oslo or some equally dull place but not Glasgow! My theory on the sound/mix as I said in the video is that these songs are from such different times in their career that maybe they struggle with the setup but that would be weird though. Someone said that since Andy is taking a bit more of a back role that then that affects it as they used to have two lead on guitar with KK and Glen. I am really considering seeing them again this summer at a festival as I think they will just get better as the tour progresses. Thanks for watching.

Hey Man... I agree with 90% you've said. I disagree on the guitars, I felt that the new guitarists (Last time I saw Judas Priest was still with Tipton and KK - 2008), didn't nail the solos (Especially the Painkiller one was a huge disappointment). And Saxon actually from my spot (In the end we were sitting on top on the side of the stage) had a very nice sound. Besides these things, you spoke my words

Totally agree on the setlist thing, the energy just dropped when they ran those slower songs in a row, otherwise everything was crazy good! Rob does sound amazing, but on the very high notes in painkiller, you can tell he is getting old, not bad, but it’s kinda more of a shriek somehow.
I don’t agree at all regarding Saxon :) not sure where you sat, but I was on the floor and the sound was top notch , truly enjoyed Saxon.

I watch all three bands doing their shows in the internet...
    Ehhh where do I start?
    1. Uriah Heep is only given half an hour (Maybe is because of Mick's age).
    2. Second Saxon doesn't play their hit number one Crusader,
    3. and finally (and sadly) Rob lost his voice many years ago, he's just singing the second song "You've Got Another Thing Comin' " and his voice is unrecognizable (They were better with the Tim The Ripper), and by the way who are those guitar players?
No, I don't think I will attend when they come to my town; it's sad, for I loved all those bands.

Thanks for watching. UH got 45 minutes here, i think on the first gig they had some tech problem and just did 5 songs. Saxon played Crusader here. Rob sounded good to me but of course he is 72 now so I maybe had lower expectations.

They're still really good live and are absolutely worth checking out, but they aren't quite as good as they were. The Epitaph tour legitimately changed my life. Flames, lasers, chains, bikes, smoke, everything. and it was SO loud. The shows now are still good but seem more conservative/safe and aren't anywhere near as loud or heavy

Saw them fall of ‘22. Only complaint I had was the sound quality and it might have just been where we were. Row 4 right in front of the speakers. When Rob hit the high notes it was painful to hear, very shrill. Would just like to say my apologies to Mr. Faulkner. It was…meh. Glad I got to see Glenn Tipton though. Really would have loved to see KK. I still listen to them all the time in various ways, mostly streaming but I still spin an album here and there. But on this gig though looking around it was people that have probably loved this band for 40+ years. Weird. Thanks for watching.

Saw them at Wembley Arena in March 24 and came away rather underwhelmed. Uriah Heep were good, Saxon & Judas Priest were at best average. The sound / vocals from Priest & Saxon were poor, the visuals were average and how a venue puts rammed together seating on the floor area rather than have standing is beyond me (especially as everyone stood up all the time anyway!). Not impressed but I forgave my old heroes and blamed the venue.
Roll forward 11 weeks and I'm back at Wembley Arena for The Scorpions. The sound was great, the vocals were great, the visuals were great and I forgot about the cramped seating as we stood & sang & cheered.
I then realised that it wasn't the venue to blame for Priest & Saxon ...............

Singing isn't competion, but some people are REALLY critical towards Halford. I sometimes think, well who other of these older singers could do Priest's set better? Who could even do it the same Halford does? I don't want to be rude but c'mon I've seen comments well Bill Byford still doing great. Not taking anything away from him, he doesn't sing like Halford. Also I'm tired reading Dickinson does this and that. Well he doesn't do so extreme vocals that Halford. And again not taking anything away from Dickinson. Just saying that there are different levels.
