I like what you said about Black Metal trying to break into arenas because I really feel that way also. I became a black metal fan literally a few days ago. After loving Lord Mantis, Ulthar, Mork, Panopticon, and then getting that Portrayal of Guilt album in just now, I can safely say that black metal is my new favorite style. I just go where the riffs go and these bands are riffing it up for me.

I discovered them on RUclips in 2013. My first live show was in 2016. I have seen them a total of 33 times now. One thing I noticed about them is they put in the same energy regardless of crowd size. The smallest crowd I was part of was no more than 100. The largest was at Rockville.

No Japanese bands? No Nemophila, Lovebites or Hanabie???

Oh I’m sure they’ll get him up there a few more times for that tour coming up. If there’s an anticipated date at a particular place then I’m sure he’ll probably be there. Just like Slayer “retiring” only to do occasional shows too.

Album was a “c” at best. Repetitive to extremes. Definitely lost their power in this one.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I share your opinion that Bands like The Warning are the future of rock. I also follow Band Maid out of Japan and Haim for the same reasons. Band Maid is more hard rock and I also like the Pretty Reckless. Haim is another group of sisters that are better live than in the studio (check out their cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well"..

Interesting list. But I can add a band that I saw in a report on German TV last year and now they are my absolute favorite band: Voice of Baceprot from Indonesia. A metal trio with extraordinary musical skills and their very own style. Their career as a women's metal band from a Muslim country is incredible. Absolutely worth listening to - it blew me away. Peace!

To me.... this album was weak. I appreciate it more now, but at the time, it was a disappointment . They tried too hard. The Slavery tour probably took it all out of them.

All female bands are less common, but let's start with The Runaways....

2:17 It IS common and widespread that bands tend to be often better when live than in a studio. Just can't dupe that "give and take" and the support from a fan base in person. One of my favorite examples, the "Rainbow Live" version of "Catch The Rainbow" vs their studio version. Amazingly different songs.

They're far from the first family group. But such groups aren't REAL common. But before you ignore me, consider The Jackson 5, the BGs, the Carpenters, the Osmunds, Clannad (that Enya came out of), The Carters (+ Johnny Cash by marriage), on a list too long to complete here. Then there are the many bands that were not "all in the family" but were dominated by 2 or 3 family members, like Toto and Lynyrd Skynard....

When I first heard meshuggah I was confused because of their unique time signatures, but there in lies the brilliance. Some people can be baffled by brilliance. The more you listen, the more you realize they’re a gift from the metal gods.

100% agree with everything you said! I am happy to support them for years now. We look at them as family growing up and w get to ride along with them as very pride family members! Because we think they can do better and still they fail. And even if you want to ignore them they draw attention sacking Mick Mars.and covering a Beastie Boys song that mocks party guys like Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee.

Maybe this is just a European perspective, but I just found out they existed a few days ago, and most of the traits you lay out here (except them being siblings) they share with, for example, Maneskin. Of course, there can be more than one band that represents the future of rock music, but yeah, I still don't get what makes them that special and different from other bands.

The Warning are an amazing and awesome rock band. I like how they play and coordinate with each other.

"I just don't get this band that i paid to see live 3xs." I just don't get people who pay to see live performances of a band they don't care for. For me, the solo section of the song Bleed is peak Meshuggah. I'm not bothered if anyone hates it.

Love VOB, can't wait to hear what they have next. There is a new band from Canada called Freeze the Fall, they only have one ep + one song out so far (but new music is coming soon). They are heavily inspired by The Warning but are themselves more towards metal than The Warning. Their newest song "VHS" is probably their heaviest to date, and the video is pretty brutal too.

I actually love the solos at the end. Their drummer JD is a monster on the skins. Your take on the band was spot on! Good review
