Just because they are criminals doesn't mean we should tolerate the state being in humane. There are enough things in prison and especially solitary to make a person go crazy. Needlessly adding to that is cruel. For the exact same cost to the state, he could provide them with variety, he can still give them that burger often, the burger is not the problem, it's the lack of variety and the nothing to look forward to that can really drive people nuts. This type of thing actually makes it more dangerous for the staff and other inmates. It increases the chance that that guy will snap when he comes back out or that he will lash out violently if they try to make him go back. Put people in a dorm room they can't leave and feed them the same thing each day and they will all kill each other eventually. That's why the Navy goes to extra efforts to make sure people on a submarine eat well. People will go crazy if you treat them like this, I have seen it.

they used to actually, it wasn't always a delicacy. I'm pretty sure this was England a few hundred years ago. At the time, they served it to the inmates, because they were easy to find in large quantities, and it was seen as cheap/easy source.

Using food as a punishment has a 0% success rate. Using very good food as an incentive for good behavior has an extremely high success rate. Positive reinforcement works better than negative reinforcement in almost all situations.

Yeah, what people fail to realize is that Criminals become Criminals due to Trauma. You have to be a real dunce to think that you can make them better by inflicting more Trauma....the very thing that lead them to become Criminals in the first place....and I'm not talking about 'Oh I broke my nail! I better go commit a crime.....' I'm talking about Childhood Trauma and PTSD style Trauma
