    A little note on this video: We should have put the cubes and spheres in liquid to remove the frosting on the outside and shown how clear they are. And they are crystal clear.

      The video made me really doubtfull. Plenty of knockoff clear ice makers that doesn't insulate enough for the one direction freezing to take place, so they never work. Reviews are important and fortunately, the buyers on Amazon provide clear pictures.

    • @rizingplanet
      @rizingplanet 3 года назад +1

      Yes the ice is cold AF and makes a layer of frost while exposed to the air. Slowly trickle som cold water over your balls and cubes
      And they will clear up beautifully.
      That is, if your water was dialed in.
      This guy is a nervous wreck for some reason.
      If your ice looks shitty consider:
      Distilled and or filtered water, tap water that you have brought to a boil twice (drives out air and other gases. Leave the mold in the freezer for a minimum of 24 hours.

    Thank you so much Leandro for testing out and sharing our new ice•logy clear ice trays. Just like great Texas BBQ (where we're from) the directional freezing process always works best when its low and slow...but not too low in temperature. Freezer temperatures can be all over the place, but we recommend ice•ology trays to rest in your freezer for 12 hours at around 25 degrees F or so. Cheers and many thanks! #iceology #clearice #directionalfreezing

    I purchased the 4 cube version and I love it. The best part is it actually gives you 8 pieces of ice. 4 perfectly clear cubes and 4 50-75% clear larger cubes which are great for mixing or as big hunk of ice! After you pull out the silicon molds, then pull out the plastic bins and let them sit at room tempreture for 5 minutes. Turn them over give a little tapy tap on a counter. If they won’t come out after a few taps put the pastic trays in the microwave for 15-30 seconds and try tapping them out on the counter again.

    • @jinxed7915
      @jinxed7915 2 года назад

      I dunno about microwaving the plastic, usually I've found that just leaving plastic bin out for ~20 minutes does the job on its own.

  • @nickentros

    I’ve got a similar tray. It works ok, if you pull the ice before the bottom of the tray (outside the mold) is totally frozen you get even more clear cubes. Doing the small cooler technique and carving yourself always gets better ice but it certainly is a hassle and this is easier. You can also collect the non-clear ice from the bottom of the trays and use that for shaking ice or cocktails that are cloudy and don’t benefit from clear ice from a presentation

    Perhaps you could do a short follow-up video and put them in a drink. I have one from another Company and it works perfectly. I'm confident that yours works, but we didn't get to see them in a drink. I'm sure that is why some people in the comments look at them skeptically. Mine looks very similar, that's why I'm sure yours works. They look this way until they are in a drink. (or until they melt a little). I like this one because mine only does cubes and no spheres.

    The timing is simply incredible!!! I have been busy creating my homemade clear ice system all day today and here you are with this video!!! That was a Like right there, without even thinking about it, my man! Thank you so much! That's pretty much what I was trying to design for myself, since I don't have a huge freezer at home that fits a whole cooler box as I see most people have who do clear ice at home. One thing though: That ice doesn't look clear to me at all! One definition I would use for clear ice that applies to the clear ice you create at home (which you have shown in a separate video), but doesn't for the ice coming out of this product: YOU CAN SEE THROUGH IT!!! Look at the thumbnail for your video called "How to make the BEST crystal CLEAR Ice cubes for your cocktails". That's clear ice! Not so the thing produced by Ice-Ology, sorry!

    before i ever came across anything about clear ice stuff, i would take the pint beer glasses use triple filtered water and put the glasses in the foam koozies and fill with water just below top of koozies leaving about 3 shots worth space for my distilled spirits and drink with the koozies on for longer lasting coldness. after about 20 minutes the ice will melt enough that what spirits still in floats it. usually have 2-4 glasses in freezer all the time.

It is a video format after all and it would be nice to see the visual representation compared to some not so clear ice as well. And also with these ice systems show the process of filling them. it's frosted, but once its in liquid it will be completely clear. But yes, in hindsight we should have put it in water and wiped the frost from the cubes. But we didn't realize so many people would not understand that frosting is natural and will happen to all ice. Now we know and next time we will make sure to wipe them off and put them in liquid for all to see :)

    I will never purchase another silicone ice cube holder again. Too much powder residue goes into the drink. I threw them all out.

    They DON’T look clear. They look really cloudy. Guess I’ll take your word for it but visually they do not look clear.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  2 года назад

      they're just frosted. we should have let them temper. Once in liquid they clear up. it's only on the outside.
      but the best way is to freeze a large block and cut them yourself

      @@TheEducatedBarfly Thank you. That’s what I do with a small Igloo cooler. It’s messy and spherical ice is hard, but with a little practice you can make interesting shapes that work well, such as a 2” long column that fits nicely into a Glencairn or a 4” long column for a tall glass.

    Evidence of a poor (if any) patent for Wintersmiths. Theirs is the original of this kind of system... works great, but so do all of the Chinese knockoffs all over Amazon at 1/3 the price.

      The "original" method for all of this was worked out by Camper English back in 2009 www.alcademics.com/2009/12/clear-ice-blocks-at-home-in-an-igloo-cooler.html

    The ice isn't remotely clear in this video, honestly this is a disservice to Ice-Ology. Probably worth re-recording this segment and demonstrating that the ice is (if it is) in fact clear.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  3 года назад

      it is clear, but since its right out if the freezer it has frosting on it. This is normal and happens to all ice. Once it tempers or goes in water it will be clear

  • @fredmiller6038

    I like your cocktail recipes but this departure is a mistake especially given your cloudy observations. None of the ice cubes or spheres were clear - especially compared to your DYI episode on clear ice. I expected you to shave the cubes/spheres to see if they became more clear. Your observations would be fine on QVC wHere there are paid presenters. One star review.

      Mattias Bernhag it’s a little frosted from being in the freezer look at the thumbnail to see clarity, I didn’t soak them in water because cold ice will crack when you do that maybe we should have waited until they were unfrosted but they were totally clear

      We should have put them in a glass with liquid to demonstrate. But they are clear. They're just frosted on the outside. But once they temper or put in liquid you'd see they were perfectly clear.
