I would think the Bartesian would be better because you fill it with your own liquors, so if you put top shelf liquors in it the drinks should be better, and also you can select the strength from mocktail, light, regular and strong. I would love to see a video review of the Bartesian.

Greed does push things forward. Just like do you have a smart watch. Most likely your greedy and to lazy to look at your phone in your pocket. Greed to want ac in homes. Greed to want cheap Walmart prices. Cheap ikea furniture. Greed of the rich only success from the greed of the rest of society. If you don’t want more out of like (greed) than someone from 1950 let alone a earlier time then all or nearly all rich people would stop making money, I want a home bar machine that does much more than this can. So I’m greedy wanting cheap drinks that are not $5-$10 each at a bar.

We also don't know the ramifications of juicing a microbe so it eats faster. It could start to adapt to breaking down other things or what that might mean for the soil these things are on. There are still alot of of unanswered questions about it to go "Problem fixed! Throw yer plastic everywhere!" Reduction of plastic use is the first and best step that needs to take place. This would give time for those enzymes to break things down if they work, or other methods to be used. How bad is it right now? Nobody thinks that a Keurig makes the best coffee, but if you had to take the gamble between a Keurig cup, a gas station cup, or the ancient coffee maker in your work break room, odds are you'll take the Keurig because you know that it's at least drinkable.

There are so many implications here:
    a) the whole thing with robot slaves is a bit too SciFi! Let’s face it, we need basically no AI to construct a “cocktail robot”. It is just an automat, which pours different liquids and might or might not manipulate the liquids as per presets (recipes).
    b) The whole headlines of the episode has been clickbait. These cocktail pods are glorified premixes and most sane people already know that fresh is better! One simply cannot make most cocktails with 100% shelf-stable ingredients (it is analog to expecting shelf-stable microwave meals to be at restaurant quality).
    c) There are inherent flaws with those machines - it seems that the “egg-heads” which design and construct those machines don’t ask really knowledgeable (bar) industry insiders what makes a good cocktail! This shows at the final execution!
    d) Imbalanced cosmopolitan: it is a shaken drink- this means that even ice water is not cold enough (shaking brings a cocktail to -5°C) while ice water is merely 0°C.
    e) For all those bartenders who think that there job spinnt threatened think again- there are already machines out which just pour exact liquor - this will reduce already massively the need of bartenders - especially if those products become cheaper and more accessible. Back of house bars, pool bars, sport bars will be the first places... but also other bars will follow. Automatization reduces payroll, increases control and profitability and even reduces service times.

Why would they need money? Maintenance! They are gonna need oils and parts, for replacement or upgrade. Also, this video got a lot more deep than I expected when I click on it. Don't worry human bartender. You are irreplaceable, you can provide amusement and comfort with an inaccurate level of unpredictability and emotional weigh regulated by hormones. That can be easily affected by changes from diets, meeting the wrong person and other stress by external forces. Or, you know, just the drinks themselves.

No the Drinkworks machine will not replace you. 1- the machine (initial investment) is way too expensive and requires a lot of maintenance. 2- the pods are expensive. Buying bottles of alcohol and mixers will get you a lot more drinks for the money.

Keurig / Doctor pepper, is one of the largest conglomerates including 7up, Motts, Snapple, Royal Crown, and Nantucket nectar just to name a few . Id be willing to bet they make 100% of the Drinkworks cocktails in their factories. I can almost guarantee they don't outsource to any high end liquor companies, I think that explains the "sports bar" quality.

As a bartender (and bar frequenter), I hate the idea of a world with robots behind the bar. I would be out of a job and it would take all the fun out of going to a bar for me.
That said, in terms of making a cocktail at home, i can see the appeal to a certain extent... for me, the most appealing feature is no clean up. Some people may like that there is no need to buy lots of expensive bottles of liquor that they may not use up, or mixers.
I think it’s inconvenient that you have to order the pods (and replacement canisters?), and not all pods are available.
I agree, I’m super curious how the White Russian would taste!
I wouldn’t run out to buy one, but I wouldn’t turn down a free one either! (Not on Instagram, so no free one for me!)
Thanks for all the great content guys!

I want big, built-in machine (like a dishwasher size) where you insert rum, gin, rye, vermouth and vodka bottles. Connect it to your water mains (It will have an ice maker), fill it with some syrups and it will make whole cocktails from scratch. No plastic waste, no hassle. Now, I'd very much like to sell such machine, since I love to do some shaking, but still.

I bought this and tried 11 different pods over 1 weekend. Save your money. The only cocktails I found halfway decent were the cosmo, Cuban daiquiri, and moscow mule. The others were either far too sweet, watery, or both. Most of them I didn't even finish, because they gave me an insta-headache after the first sip.

I think a much bigger question is if all of these jobs are taken up by automation and AI, what will all of the unemployed will do? How will they manage to get fed, what level of comfort(if provided) will be provided to those who are no longer needed as workers. The future is a bit scary without answering these questions, before you ask is my talking toaster a slave.

The machine does very well with drinks like Whiskey Sour, Long Island Iced Tea, Cosmo, Mai Tai, etc. Basically, drinks that require a few ingredients. Where this machine doesn’t make sense: Gin & Tonic, Vodka - Soda, Whiskey & Cola - drinks that consist of a couple ingredients. You’re better-off using your alcohol of choice on those.
The machine also doesn’t do very well if you like strong drinks. You’re going to want to add 3/4 to a full shot for most drinks if that’s your preference. I’ve had my machine for 2 months and happy overall.
It’s far better than the Bartesian in terms of selection, producer (Keurig), and quality of drinks. I tried the Bartesian when I was shopping & prefer the DrinkWorks by a huge margin; not even comparable.

Even if a machine could give me precisely what I wanted instantly, I pay bar prices, for a talented Bartender to give me his best. Not so hard sometimes as I'm rarely in the mood for simply a neat whiskey! But when I ask for something, not so sweet and very strong they give me the craziest things! I like the Human because of creativity. Chances are if I get what I have in mind, I can do it myself (Aberlour 16, Bushmills 10 Y. Single Malt, Tullamore Dew 12, so on and so forth). That's not fun for me. I have simple tastes, but I'll never deny there some fun stuff out there... Even for people like me who seem to like no sugar and all alcohol.

Straight up, I love this thing. Sure it's $300 bucks but I spend that in 3 nights out. Then the cocktails are just around $4 bucks which is cheaper than a bar, and taste like a typical "bar" cocktail. It's not like mind blowing drinks but it's "good" and as you said "stiff". I think for someone who likes cocktails, but doesn't like spending lots of money (long term) it's a GREAT buy. They also have "signature" pods now with premium spirits and flavors now.

I'm just now getting into mixology for the home and have stocked up with about $500 worth of booze (and growing), not including the drink glasses and cocktail tools. . I would rather put a little effort into making quality drinks than buying prepackaged lower quality mixes and then having to buy an expensive machine.

  • @llary

There is so much wrong with the very existence of this machine I don't know where to start. Anyone can make a wide variety of great tasting cocktails with a very limited home bar. Vodka, tequila, triple sec, white rum will all keep indefinitely. I always have at least a couple of lemons or limes and other fresh citrus in the fridge, grab some cranberry juice if you are having friends over. Congratulations, you can now make dozens of cocktails just by looking them up on google. A big part of the fun making cocktails at home is the showmanship of mixing your own drinks. I don't know about anyone else but I would only really make or drink cocktails at a party or some other social event. I would prefer to kick back with a whisky at home.
