Brings back memories. During college, I had a Long Island party where I asked the guests to bring the ingredients for this iconic drink and mixed it in a cooler. One bottle of rum, one bottle of vodka, one bottle of gin, etc etc etc...Went over like a treat and much cheaper than an evening at the local bar.
I'm a little obsessed with using maple Syrup in cocktails rn so a really fun cocktail I wanna make is a variation of the Texas Tea which I'm gonna call a Toronto Tea! Which is just with Canadian Club whiskey instead of bourbon and maple syrup instead of simple. Very excited to try it sometime!
As a NYC bartender, I just want to say, every bar I've worked in has done a minimum of 1oz of each alcohol (meaning 5oz of alcohol when including triple Sec). Most bars use 1.5 oz of each liquor, and some use 2 oz of each liquor. So, please, do not underestimate how strong your long island iced tea is.

Because that's not allowed either, but I assure you no one reports it. No one is going to report having a bit more alcohol in their drink either. This is hands down the best Long Island yet! I used Patron Silver, Bacardi Superior, Absolute, Tanqueray, Cointreau, with the fresh squeezed lemon juice. Very refreshing! We hate the overpowering dose of sour mix you typically get when ordering at beachside bars.
At my job we make a top shelf variation with Tito's, Tanqueray, Bacardi, Patron, and Cointreau. Tbh I think we could do better than Bacardi but I don't make the rules
except Dr. Dre. he gets all top. met a bartender from Cali who said Dr. Dre went to Cheesecake every Sunday with the fam. top shelf long islands all night
I’ve had many long island iced tea‘s around the country. Our local Chinese restaurant that has been there for many many many many years has the best Long Island iced tea. The gal that works there her name is Linda and she makes the best Long Island iced tea I have ever had!!! Ty for the video.
I typically make the LIITs that I drink (on the rare occasions that I have them, as I'm almost always missing at least one of the key ingredients for some reason) with either a lemon-lime soda--perhaps changing the rum to a dark or aged version to get the color--or if I really want that classic look/taste, a caffeine-free cola. My choices are mostly due to a caffeine allergy that I developed before I could legally drink alcoholic beverages. That said, I love the AMF and the LBIT!
I have a similar one that my friends like. Make it the same as you've done, but drop the tequila for vodka and add 2 dashes of bitters (angostura or orange). It's a nice change from tradition.
Great info! Up in my region, Central Maine, we have a variation called a Grateful Dead. Basically, replace the Cointreau with Chambord and top with sprite.
There is a whiskey distiller in Dallas with the label "TX", and they make a wonderful blended whiskey. But a couple years ago they did release a Bourbon, and I have to say, it stacks up with the Kentucky brands.

As a club bartender. It’s interesting watching other types of bartenders create these drinks. Yours will definitely taste ten times better than mine but I will make mine ten times faster lol. I never even roll nor shake any of these just cause I never have time. I only do it if you ask. 😂 But all my regulars don’t care how good it tastes... They just want whatever is strong. “Un-responsable drink pouring.” I might be guilty especially as the night goes along... 😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀

There's a reason tourist regions have legal limits as to how many long islands they can sell to any one customer. (I forget the name of the place) I went to a tourist trap area near Jacksonville and there was a local law only letting them sell 2 long islands to anyone, no matter their size.
This new bar I'm working at uses, like, no joke 2oz of every spirit including triple sec. It's served in a 22oz pint with a one count pour of sour. Nobody orders LITs except the bar regulars though which is funnny.
It really is true, different bars/regions use different recipes..and their way is the right way. I’m from Texas and I used to work in a night club. Our version of LIIT is 1 oz each of rum, vodka and gin. The Texas Tea you add the tequila…hence Texas tea. Being that we’re right on the border. Now you know.

Vigant I’d been drinking from early in the morning.... and when we landed in Riga we found s bar still in the airport and was there drinking Jaeger bombs for about 2 hours!!! By the time I got to the Riga Ice tea I’d had a few. Riga Black Balsam on it’s own is awful.... but mixed with everything else was ok. With them, flaming sambucas..... champagne in the sky lounge..... I black out a few times....

It's is ok to make this is gallon size for a drink dispenser for a large party or better questions is it responsible? I don't want to be stuck making drinks all night but I want to do a long Island drink for my husband's party and put it for self serve.
That is close to the same, the twice as sweet syrup is balanced by double the amount of sour. Another spirit that works crazy well with sour mix is plantation pineapple rum.
So if you were going to make a bunch of these, would it make sense to set up a fifth or two of LIT mix? 3oz each Gin, vodka, Tequila, and rum? If I'm making drinks with standard sour, I'd make a lemon cordial (sugar, lemon juice, lemon peel, water, citric and tartaric acid in tiny amounts, 100 proof vodka for stability) and do 2 oz LIT mix, 1 ½oz cordial, triplesec or what have you, and filler. Whatsay?
This AMF.. at home same thing(stronger but does not taste "boozier") but add two things 30 ml Vodka 30 ml Gin 30 ml Rum 30 ml Tequila **22.5 ml Blue C 15-22.5 ml lemon juice 15-22.5ml simple syrup **15 ml coconut Malibu rum **7.5 ml orange (optional) Shake Strain into tumbler glass with ice Fill the rest of the glass with sprite (Roughly 2x what you added) (I do less blue C than other parts becuase I can taste it over most things when equal parts so add real orange where you take away blue C) If I just want one good strong drink that masks better than an all equal part amf.. this is great! Good way to start if a card/game night with friends without having to make more drinks as often.

My go to Long Island - Made in a 40oz travel mug 2 oz of each - white rum, spiced rum, gin, triple sec and lime juice 3 oz of each - Vodka and respasdo tequila 1 12 oz can of pepsi light stir - Add ice and top with sweet and sour mix (looks about like 3-4 oz)
did you try coloring the liquor with spirulina? i'm not sure if you could add something like that to an alcohol as coloring but i know peaflower works so i imagine spirulina would too!

I swap out chambord for the triple sec to make a black raspberry Long Island ice tea. So good!
I always thought it was a Tennessee iced tea? We had it in a bar i use to work in but we used JD so made sense
I do a sweet/sour mix which consist 1/4 fresh lemon 1/4 fresh lime 1/2 simple syrup.
Yes. Spot on. And just a splash of coke.
My sour mix always ends up 1:1:1 lemon, lime, and a slightly heavier 3:2 syrup. It makes a heavenly gin sour, with botanist or hendricks

When I make a Tokyo Tea I use yuzu instead of lemon juice, I believe it gives the final product better taste.

did you try coloring the liquor with spirulina? i'm not sure if you could add something like that to an alcohol as coloring but i know peaflower works so i imagine spirulina would too!

I found one called a Hawaiian ice tea and it’s the same as a normal Long Island but no coke and use pineapple juice instead. Realllyyyyy good lol
