I first started listening to Gordon Lightfoot in 1965 while in high school. I continued listening into college and when my brother and I came home for vacations, the only music my mother would let us play while she was listening was Gordon Lightfoot. She was much smarter than I gave her credit for. Thanks Mom!!
I just miss him. He was 11 yrs older than I - and he was always there, for as long as I can remember. He was ours - and we were his. I'm pretty much 100% sure that there wasn't a home in Canada where he wasn't welcome. He could have shown up at any of our doors, and would have been gathered in like the son, brother, uncle, friend - that he was to us all. It's times like these - when do-overs would be such a blessing. We all loved you, our Gordon - and you took a piece of our broken hearts with you when you walked on . . .
Now we are old. Too soon the years fly. I sat ten feet from Gordon when he played this in the early years, in a little dark basement nightclub. Still the same resonance in his voice, better with age, like a fine wine.
Gordon sounds as good live as he does on record, thank you for sharing this clip, he’s brilliant songwriter & artist - his voice is timeless, soulful & in every way just beautiful
It's so uplifting just to know that after all the difficulty he has had in his life , this man can still pick up a guitar and play ! One of the best songwriters and performers during the age we are all living in ! Thank you Gordon , and good wishes to all who are listening in 2022 !
I was an Ontario boy living in Alberta....my wife had just left me to go back east, I had no family and very few friends out here. I was despondent. I tried to hide at the bottom of a bottle, to no avail. Then I heard this song one day and I knew that I wasn't the first person to ever feel this sad. Somehow knowing this made me feel a little better. Thanks, GL for helping me turn my life around.
I went with my youngest son to see Gordon in Manchester, England, last Sunday night (22 May 2016). He and the boys in the band gave a great show. A truly memorable night!
I was driving home late11.00pm when I heard this song early morning rain on radio merseyside. Loved it and now catch up with Gordon on RUclips . Why I never got into him earlier I'll never know!! Love him. X
@gordonlightfoot865 Thanks so much for your kind words. I think your era has produced some of the greatest music the world has ever known, whether it be folk rock, rock, country, or Motown. It must have been a heck of a ride, sorry I missed it.
Frankly, as a teenager boy nowadays, I never knew who this guy was until last year, in March, where my parents asked me if I would come to his concert. I assumed he’d be a country singer, and I like classical and metal, so I didn’t think I’d like him. I really regret that now I’ve seen his earlier performances ( His voice was inaudible, the notes there but just whispers of words I could not hear, the day I saw him, which I can handle, however instrumentation was incredible) But now I’ve seen this performance and ones from the 70s and 60s, this guy needs more credit.
Today's audiences don't get the full richness of the Lightfoot voice in its prime but they get far more storytelling, that's he'd never bother with during the big hits days. That audience was freaking rude, though. Not everything is a rodeo, folks.
Hey Char, who gave you the right to record this and post it to youtube. What colossal nerve. This is not your song and is NOT yours to publish. Go to the concert and enjoy - you got your monies worth. Come on people!
Thank you Char
So glad he’s still with us. A treasure.
12 string guitar mastery. This video is beyond precious
One of the best songs ever. A perfect example of how a simple composition can magically exceed the sum of its parts.

It's 4:25 AM and there's an early morning rain outside. It triggered this precious memory of a classic. Thank you.

I'm so glad I went to see Gord last year in Manchester, absolute underrated genius
Yes indeed! One of the greatest songwriters of all time. I love the man's music.
Robert, that makes two of us. I've been a huge fan of his since I was a kid... and I'm 52 now. He was the reason I bought my first 12-string guitar.
and one of my hest choices was to see him in Minn in 2015
@@wallyklw5 . Good man Kevin. I was lucky enough to see him in England 3 years ago. Brilliant songwriter and seems like a proper nice bloke too
It was actually 4 years ago, can't believe it was that long ago
What a treasure! the crowd has no respect for the artist and very boisterous, shameful! love his songs and all his tours!
My favorite song! It touches my heart so, thank you for writing this beautiful song! Great job!
gord has gone now, but will love him and his music till i am gone.
You have been my hero all my life..it will never end
Thanks for posting all these great videos of the show
Daily inspiration for me at 67!
Sung as nicely as it ever has. Well-done, my friend!
'The minstrel of the dawn is gone ' may he rest in peace.
Still a great song!

Legend. Getting hollered at....
Masterpiece.
So good. ❤
Gordon Forever
Jeez! Listen to that old Hummingbird SCREAM!
My thoughts exactly, John. It's a $7000+ guitar. But in Gordon's hands it's priceless!!!
Gosh, he is sooooo polite compared to his racy, wayward youth, still love him!
The " Sundown " - Gibson B45 12-string wth the "belly down" bridge instead of the normal "GIBSON"- "belly up bridge"
Great stuff, famous old man.
Still going strong, gallavanting around concerts makes him the man he is strong and lovable, love him!
God bless
Bravo

Thank you Mr. Lightfoot, for making me trade my 6-string guitar in for a 12-string.......
"If You Could Read My Mind" right now!
R.I.P.

Gordon did, and he does know and allows me to take photos and video at his concerts. Thanks for asking.
@@lightfootfan Well said indeed!
